Woody Quinn

Sporting puma gear from our new contract?

Vols play @#1, @#3, #5, #7 and @#10

Which is why everyone needs to tender their expectations for this season. I am interested to see how CBJ reacts and how the players react. The majority of this team is still used to the "Dooley results and expectations."

CBJ is most definitely doing all the right things. But, it's a different story when a down of football has yet to be played.

Fans need to not give up on the season if we start 3-5 cause the biggest home games are really Auburn and Vandy.

Earlier this week, Jones had a meeting with everyone on campus who has even a fleeting interaction with Tennessee football: maintenance people, food-service workers, secretaries, you name it. There were about 150 people at the meeting. He wanted to underscore how important each of them is to the Volunteers program, and to find out what he could do to help them do their jobs.

Wow.

It's August 1 and my optimism is getting a little out of control, by August 31 I might convince myself we're going to win the NC...

That's actually a really good point. People need to keep the word "progress" in mind with this team and staff at the start of the season. After the first two games, the strength of our schedule rivals anyone in the country, through October.

Unfortunately, given the status of the program, the way we end our season is huge, especially with the games you mentioned, Auburn and Vandy.

All these people predicting us to go 8-4 or 9-3 will be the ones leaving the stadium early and selling their tickets to Auburn fans later in the season.

7-5/8-4 Is what I am leaning towards right now. I agree the Auburn game is a huge one. One that could take this season to another level for us.

Vandy I expect a solid win. Home game, revenge, talent, team chemistry, and competent coaching staff will get us a14-17+ point win.

I personally feel S Car and FL are overrated. Especially S Car at # 7. But hey I hope they're ranked decently when they come to Neyland. Definitely a game I think we can "steal"

I definitely agree on SC. I keep reading analysts that suggest this may be the best SC team Spurrier has had. I just don't see it.

On FL, I've finally decided to stop trying to convince myself they are overrated (despite how much I despise them). They consistently land recruiting classes in the top 5. We've only beaten them 6 or so times since the Vietnam war. This year, they bring back Ronald Powell, they have an offensive and defensive line that are both considered to be in or near the top 5 in the country, they have an elite secondary and they have a quarterback that everyone seems convinced is going to make a big leap forward this year. Personally, I think we lose that game soundly, and have difficulty moving the ball. I expect them to be in or near the top 10 again, when the dust settles.

I still think 6-6, but with a big win over Vandy. If Vandy loses that Ole Miss game in the opening weekend, their season could spiral out of control quickly IMO. They have a tough road ahead after that...

Yeah i expect vandy to have a bad year. But alas I did last year as well. But still, I think we handle them this year

You may be right. But they lost some experience on defense. And they lost Gillislee who at times seemed like their only offense. We'll see. I think we keep it at least respectable down there in the humidity

Just heard Fulmer on the radio. Had a lot of good things to say about Butch, said he's glad he's embracing the tradition and ideals of those who have won big at UT in the past.

Said also that it's not unreasonable to hope we could snag a few of those "we should... Errrr... Could have won last year." But it is still a process.

In order to win championships and compete in the SEC much less with any other high profile program in major college football you have to unite the fanbase. Butch has done that without even coaching a game. He is the anti-Dooley.
