'14 NC PG JaQuel Richmond

No I don't think so.

I think Cornish and Demery along with a few others had a first come first serve offer, which is one reason jordan jumped so quick. There was likely going to always be a spot for Cofer, but don't wanna take chances and he jumped on it. So, this is how I see it...

Staff will take 1 PG:

1. Lyle 2. Mitchell 3. Richmond

Staff will take 1 SF:

1. Looney 2. Black 3. Lindsey 4. Norris 5. Hill

Staff will take 1 C:

1. Hurt 2. Turman 3. Hall

IMO this is how the staff views them on their board at each position. Now there's obviously some guys who you take even if you've already got a commit. Such as say Lindsey, even if we have looney you still gladly take Lindsey.

At this point, like I said in another thread...IMO we will not see another commit until Lyle/Looney either commit to another school or cut us from their list.

Is Trayvon Reed just a pipe dream? I love that kids upside.

Any reason why the 247 people are backing off their Tennessee predictions and choosing Osu,A&M

This kid is going to be one of those "I wish we had" type deals.

*cough* Otto Porter

This isn't the same situation with Potter though but this could be true but it could be false especially if we land Lyle or Mitchell

My comparison was just that we missed out on Otto Porter. Why are you freaking out

Not freaking out, just don't get the comparison at all.

If your comparison is that we "missed out" on him, couldn't you add about 50 other names that we technically "missed out" on? It seemed like you were saying, since we passed on Richmond, that is similar to Otto Porter, which I was saying isn't the case at all.

Yeah, it isn't the best of comparisons. :hmm:

“@JayJayUSATODAY: 2014 PG JaQuel Richmond tells me that he’s no longer down to just Tenn, Fla State, Okla State and Texas A&M. “I'm open to everyone now.””

Rob Lewis said he has heard grades are a real concern and that's why everyone has backed off.

Dude...it's gonna blow if we miss out on decent PG AGAIN.

I don't understand how we have such bad luck. Shouldn't the availability of PT be a huge enticement for say a top 20 position PG?

Would def explain why everyone backed off at the same time, his grades must be real bad

I just don't get how hard it is to make the grades in high school. Like seriously? Especially being on the varsity team where you are the star player.

It's pretty dang crazy. I know it would be big for me if I was a recruit.

Exactly. These kids known from middle school on their goal is to play basketball. To do so you have to have the grades, I'm amazed how lightly some of these kids take it.

I didn't want to come off as bashing him. But come on. Keeping a 2.5 isn't hard at all. It's has to be simply not trying. If I'm a top 100 player with a chance at a full ride better believe I'm doing what's necessary in the classroom.

Now with Lyle off the board and Richmond potentially not being academically elgible, what is next for CCM in the way of a point guard? D.Mitchell? Or perhaps a JUCO?

Right now it looks like were third on Coleman and trailing by a lot on Joseph. Were seem to be equal with other schools on Mitchell. New name no offer is Hunter Ware he has a bunch of mid-major offers including Middle Tennessee. Another name Ernie Duncan mid-major offers from several schools.

I don't think you'll see the staff reach too far, especially at this point (ie Washpun). Mitchell is on their radar, Zach McCormick who came to camp earlier this month (no offer) is a guy their keeping tabs on and will continue to through July. Jaylen Barford is another guy they've talked to (no offer), and will keep tabs on. He plays on the Nashville Celtics with Makinde London so they'll see alot of him in July. Another name who we've been in contact with is Justin Coleman. He holds a Tennessee offer, but with the pursuit of Lyle he kind of dell under the radar and maybe was pushed to the back a bit.

My guess...they'll push hard for Mitchell and Coleman over the next month or two. If they're unable to pull either one you'll see a new offer or two go out to some guys they evaluate throughout July. The staff feels good about Thompson and apparently is ok with the possibility of not taking a "true PG" this class, but a combo. Guys like McCormick, demery, Mitchell all fit the mold. So if a guy like demery were to announce for Tennessee, they may not really pursue a PG going forward.
