Also of note...A&M isn't even listed as offering? So idk what up with that.

Gunter is predicting UT, and Gunter is who Richmond informed of his decision being Wednesday, so maybe he does know something.

I'd gladly take him.

I don't think Richmond would scare off Lyle. If anything, were Richmond to pick Tennessee, then Lyle did as well, it would be way more likely for Richmond to "re-open" his recruitment. Guys like Lyle don't worry about competition, at least from a player like Richmond. If he didn't he wouldn't have Louisville in his final four.

And, that isn't to say Richmond is bad. Just that I'd be surprised if Lyle would back off Tennessee because of him.

I'm not sure how it'd work, you don't wanna run away a skilled PG and risk losing Lyle or Mitchell...but at the same do you risk getting nobody?

Eric Bossi (rivals national analyst) said nobody in Richmond's top 4 has really made him a priority, so idk.

I'd obviously love to have him, but so long as it doesn't hurt our chances of landing Lyle. With that said...I'm guessing FSU.

I didn't say it'd scare off Lyle, just that I would hope it doesn't hurt our chances...even the slimmest bit. Going against Louisville and Indiana we need every possible advantage we can get.

FSU insider just picked UT, so now it's 3 predictions and all for UT, guess well see, hmmm.

Here's his pre commitment ranks, cause we all know if he does commit to UT he's gonna drop :)

Composite: 90
247: 135
Rivals: 129
Scout: 50
ESPN: NR*

*= ESPN only ranks top 100

I would certainly take him. I doubt it would hurt us with Lyle. Plus I don't want to be in a situation where we are scrambling to find at PG if we were to miss on Lyle.

Has there ever been a reason given for his drop? He was a top 25 player a year ago.

I don't think he was ever a top 25 talent, I think he was rated too highly. As for the drop, he plays with some really good player Theo Pinson (5*), and Giles (arguably best underclassmen in the country)...so his numbers are probably somewhat affected by that.

Gunter just tweeted he cancelled his announcement. Probably tried to commit somewhere and the coaches told him to wait lol

William Gunter‏@WillGunter2471m
2014 PG JaQuel Richmond sent me message "I have decided to wait & not commit on Wednesday." Says there is no time frame for announcing.

Well that changed quick

Hmmm....sounds like he may have informed UT he was gonna commit and they told him to hold off, kinda what I thought may happen.

I agree with you, but I'm not sure the staff does. Obviously if Richmond commits they won't stop pursuing Lyle, but I'm pretty sure if they pull Lyle they won't pursue Mitchell.

We'd be loaded with shooters(scorers) , but we do need to add another big man to the class. JMO

This all day... all of it.

Whatever school he picks, Lyle isnt going to be worried about playing time. IMO He is as solid as their is out there. If you land Richmond, it strengthens our recruiting class and attracts more talent.

And dang it would be nice to have DEPTH at the pg spot.

Getting pumped just thinking about it!!! If he commits Wed., where would that rank our recruiting class so far? If we landed one of the 5 stars where would our class fall overall?

This is what concerns me a bit. If its true that Richmond was gonna commit to UT, and coaches told him to wait, they may regret it. If you miss on Lyle and Mitchell, and Richmond got sick of waiting, then what? At the same time, if one of your selling points to Lyle is he's the only PG you're pursuing, well then I guess you have to sink or swim with that.

In addition, Lyle can play the 1, 2, or 3. He's not necessarily pigeonholed into playing PG.

Exactly! You can see my thoughts on it just before your post. And I dont think Lyle cares about who we would have he might have to share minutes with. Wouldnt surrounding him with talent on the roster be a better selling point than: hey we didnt recruit this kid, so you will have more PT. Studs arent worried about getting their minutes.

If the staff told Richmond to wait in mid June, then they are dumber than I thought.

I don't think so. They still have better PG's they are looking at. It's not just us other schools aren't really high on this guy. What if he wants to sign early and we are stuck in a Landry type spot then what. Staff is just taking full advantage of other prospects and talent before deciding not dumb

If they're selling Lyle on being the only recruited PG, and they feel its an advantage they have over UL or IU I get it. Robert Hubbs said one of the biggest things with Tennessee in their recruitment was that Martin told him he was the only guard he was recruiting at that spot, he was their guy. They ended up landing him, so maybe they're trying again.

Not necessarily saying its the best course of action, just playing devils advocate.

But you wouldnt compare Landry's talent to Richmond would you?
