Explosion in Boston?

agreed you would think in 3 days that would have gotten out of the area, especially if they were trained...wouldn't they have an eggress plan..

I really hope they take #2 alive, so he can be interrogated

If the report that they thew an IED out of the car they jacked is correct, then I understand why they did not flee. In fact, they were probably on their way to plant this other IED (no reason to walk around with it). But, why stop in the 7/11 on the way? Just really needed a Clif bar and some Gatorade?

They say suspect 1 had self inflicted wounds. So the bombing would likely had been a suicide mission were they not planning to do more.

Coffee and donuts ?

so I just started reading about this and it just doesn't make much sense. I'm sure that's not surprising as reporters fumble to put it all together but it seems they

- knocked off a 7-11 when everyone in the entire country has seen their faces (I like hotdogs as much as the next guy but really?)
- shot an MIT officer in his car
- carjacked a guy and then let him go (really confusing)
- got in a shootout, tossed some bombs
- one was killed and one got away

How NBC is reporting it is as follows (which makes a bit more sense):

- shot and killed MIT LEO
- stole MIT LEO's squad car
- knocked off 7/11
- jacked Mercedes
- shootout and bomb tossing

One Boston Marathon suspect killed; second suspect, his brother, on loose after firefight - U.S. News

If they were on their way to plant another device (on MIT's campus, maybe), then all of this makes a bit more sense.

thanks, makes a little more sense. I still don't get the 7-11 part and letting the carjackee go free after gunning down a cop

I don't either. And, the 7/11 in Central is not some out of the way 7/11. Major pedestrian area, especially on Thursday night at 10-11pm.

I think they were conducting their get away on the fly. Scrambling around with no real plan other than to just go.

Think this guy is gonna get cornered up this morning though.

Be interesting to see what the motivations are. I can't see the reasoning if these are tied to chechnyan separatists.
