Explosion in Boston?

I was too young to remember 9/11 but how long did it take for OBL to claim responsibility?

IIRC, the US Government named Bin Laden and al-Qaeda the day of attacks or the next day. I could not believe how fast the hi-jackers were named with photos on tv.
I do not recall Al-Qaeda taking responsibility for a few days.

In most cases a group will claim responsibility right away.

The fact that no middle eastern terror cell has taken credit is kinda shocking to be honest. I always got the impression they'd take claim to whatever even if they had nothing to do with it. I guess when we thinned out upper managment over the last few years, they've slowed their roll on things like that.

Do you think this was just a procedural drill? Or do you think there is some truth to someone being informed? If someone had been tipped off surely they would have called the race off.

I think it was more than a "drill" in that they were actually looking for explosives; however, I would imagine that it is routine and something they've done at every Boston Marathon since 2002.

They constantly have BPD, Staties, and National Guard throughout the course, either conducting simple crowd control, confiscating alcohol, or conducting other checks of various kinds. The fact that they were checking for explosives does not lead me to believe that they were necessarily tipped off.

The difference between 9/11 and now though is that the cat is out of the bag. If this was an organized AQ-sponsored attack, I'd think that they would be broadcasting their involvement immediately, just to say "Hey, we can still be effective against you."

More likely, if its a radical Islamic thing, is some sort of small homegrown group or even lone wolf type. Then again, this could just as easily be some one or two people that are just fed up with something or other, and who are now on the run.

Is he wrong in calling it an event? Seems like a quite appropriate designation.

Maybe call it an "act of terror" or "a terrible sin" would be a bit more appropriate. Sorry I just view him as emotionless and calling yesterday "an event" is just more evidence

Negative...they obviously do not like running.

Axelrod: Obama Thinks Bombings Could Be Related to 'Tax Day'...

:lolabove::lolabove::lolabove::lolabove:

God help us!

Democrats are going to use this crisis for everything they can wring from it up UNTIL THE TIME it’s proven to be an Muslim operation. When that’s proven, they’ll drop it like a hot potato!

It could be a sleeper cell

A couple of reasons why no one has claimed responsibility:

1. As I stated earlier, the attack was fouled up and they don't want their name associated with it.
2. It was a lone wolf type person who was either injured so he can't release a statement or he doesn't yet feel safe enough to release a statement.
3. The government has already received a statement claiming responsibility and hasn't let the public know yet.
4. It was done to divert attention away from something else and caused more damage than expected so the perpetrators are keeping silent.

Really, you want the POTUS, that is the head of the secular federation of states known as the United States, to call this a "terrible sin"? No wonder you are so bent.

Well, emotionless is a quality I actually kind of want in a leader.

Wonder how hard itis to get a "signature" off an IED? Talked to my military buddy last night and he claims some are so basic, it looks like a 5th grader could put one together.

Just reported that a NCTC (National Counterterrorism Center) briefing to Capitol Hill was canceled. Not sure what that means. Hope that helps.

That's what Clinton called OKC

Regarding three;

How could the US gov't restrict that sort of information? They couldn't possibly prevent a video from airing in another part of the world.

I could see it being domestic or foreign at this point.

Domestic you have the tax angle and foreign you have 'patriots day'.

It's pretty dumb for people in places of authority to speculate. I don't mind the news but congress or officials shouldn't speculate until facts are known.

That's my point about the even perhaps purposeful conflicting statements about other devices.

If they have found some and secured them, and they can quickly determine the explosive, they might be able to also narrow down where it came from, was sold, etc.

Just heard reporting that the color of the smoke, direction of smoke are indicators of type.

Also, former NCTC Director on NBC has said this was a sophisticated attack FWIW

Occurs to me either they have nothing to add quite yet, or that they are right on top of this and don't want there to be any leaks.

Very easy. They'll identify the type of detonator, the explosives, the timing devices etc. Most of this can be traced fairly easily.
