In the long run, we would be substantially worse off because it's too easy for opposing coaches to question the trustworthiness of a guy that repeatedly got caught lying. Why do you think we fired him?
You could be right, but I wouldn't remotely say that's definitive. When building a relationship with a recruit, it's easy to rationalize a lie about a barbeque -- which is the only thing to "discredit" his credibility.
