Robert Hubbs

Okay? The ACC is weak this year as well. Duke just squeaked out a road win on a questionable call against a PATHETIC Boston College and got embarrassed by Miami. Miami lost to FGCU and Indiana State earlier in the year (I know Indiana State isn't a "bad" loss, but title-contending teams don't lose to teams like those). Indiana has had their fair share of struggles against mediocre teams (losing to Wisconsin at home, choke job against Illinois). Michigan isn't unbeatable, obviously. Arizona... Well, we know the story there. Gonzaga will flame out fairly early in the tournament like they usually do. Syracuse and Louisville... Meh. Kansas is struggling big time in a weak Big 12.

If you pick apart every team's resume this season, then no one is a title contender. Florida is far from perfect (post depth is thin), but if we're not a title contender, then there aren't any true title contenders this season. Someone has to win it all.

And Arkansas is truly a different team at Arkansas than they are anywhere else. We'll beat them by 30 at our place.

Great points all. College basketball is thoroughly flawed all the way across this year. It's almost like every team sucks, which seems weird to say. Haha. Parity is greater this year than any I remember. The best team could lose to the worst team on any given night. I can't remember a year like that.

Yeguete is out 4-6 weeks. That's a huge blow. Whether he'll have his legs during the tourney remains to be seen. I can see Fla making the Elite 8. I'll wait until the brackets are revealed and whether Yuguete is available to see if I have them going to the Final 4 in my bracket.

Ehhhhh. Blowout or not, it's still just one game. Anything can happen in one game. Like I said, every team has that game where they just can't do anything right.

Besides, at home Arkansas isn't a marginal team. They are capable of beating anyone there.

What is worst loss by eventual NCAA basketball champ? | John Clay's Sidelines

As you can see, it wouldn't be the worst loss ever by an eventual champ. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't be close. Hell, just two years ago Uconn lost at St. John's by 17.

Florida is a contender. Fact.

I definitely agree with this. After playing so many ****ty teams, I could see Florida almost 'forgetting' what it's like to play a real team, if that makes sense. They could get complacent. But with Billy Donovan for a coach, I wouldn't bet on it.

If Yeguete is out, they are not IMO. We'll see.

I really have a good feeling about Hubbs. I'm not setting any expectations for his first year coming in. If he can start or be the sixth man and average 8-10 points per game I think that will set the tone for his career here.

That would be perfect then he can take Jordy Macs spot in the lineup when he graduates and blow up his sophomore year.

Yup, I just don't want to set myself up and think he will be a 17 point a game freshman when I know how difficult that is. I would want him to come in and let people know he's the future. Have some 20 point games but contribute more than just scoring. Sophomore year it will be "his" team possibly.

Not saying i disagree, but what about Nick King and Austin Nichols?

Different classification than Nichols, better player than King. What hurts him is not playing in a larger media market since they are the voters. Hopefully with his commitment to UT he can get some help from East Tennessee markets.

After watching all of them play the last couple of years I think King may have the biggest upside by a hair over Hubbs. Nichols is a fine player but not nearly as athletic as the other two.

Hubbs was snubbed of the McDonalds All-American game today. Tweeted "@DatKiddRobert Motivation!!!" I can't wait to have this kid on the team.

I don't want to put unrealistic expectations on this kid but you don't sign a top 10 player and bring him off the bench. Maybe at first but not for long.

I see people saying that he won't be able to crack the starting lineup. Uhh, he better. This team is not talented enough to keep him on the bench. I realize some of y'all may be trying to protect him but geez. This kid should start from day 1 IMO.

Maybe that's why nobody has him rated as a top 10 recruit?

I'm sorry. I thought he was a bit higher on Rivals. He's #15 on rivals and #15 on 247. I'll edit my post to say top 15 player if it makes you feel better.

Point remains. He's a top 15-20 player coming in to play on a team that has offensive woes. He should start over Richardson or Trae. I understand people saying "well, JRich won't just concede his spot." But to me, if the kid is even close to his billing, he should be starting sooner than later.

I really just don't get the difference between him playing 30 minutes off the bench or 30 minutes as a starter, sorry.

Richardson is the glue of the team and a proven player. Hubbs doesn't need to start. That's the most overrated part of Basketball. You want your best players on the floor at the end of the game. If Hubbs is one of those players then we will know what we have

Exactly. I don't get the "if he doesn't start" he's a disappointment stance. McRae will be a senior and josh a junior who's been a starter each year...being the 6th man is where Hubbs should be.
