'13 FL ATH Lemond Johnson (UT Commit 12/16/12)

Sorry, I don't get this. Is that a knock or a compliment?

If any of the older posters remember my original handle(lockdown1) they'll know why I posted this. I stayed into it on here with posters that argued me down mainly Sabanochio and gatorhater Eric who both knew/know nothing about football but this board backed them to death. Up until we started getting killed on the field and then people started taking notice to me and a few other posters on here. I've calmed down a bit since then though. You'll learn not to argue too long with all of these posters. :salute:

You've always struck me as a guy who knows his football. I don't know how some of these guys can talk up Dooley's "accomplishments", the guy flat out sucked. I guess its better not to argue sometimes.

I went nuts at the mizzou game. He sucked, stunk, and was crap and hated that I supported him as long as I did. If I had met him, I would've wished it was over the middle. The only problem is I would've been ejected for launching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just avoid the trash. Piece of advice, if you don't like a prospect stay out of his thread. Saves a lot of posts. The Devrin Young and Zach Rogers threads were some of my worst decisions to post.

What do you think about Johnson? I don't think hell be an all american but I think he's got potential to be a very strong contributor.

Not meaning to just jump in and interrupt, but Tennessee doesn't exactly capitalize on the little bit of elite talent that it has in state. Most elite in state players do not go to UT. It's sad, but definitely true.

I completely agree. I have consistently said that Dooley was terrible in the state of TN. He didn't care about relationships with TN HS staffs. That's been well-documented since his departure.

Everyone likes to mention he pulled in top 15 classes. That's not all that good in the SEC.

Thats one of the dumbest statements on here. South Carolina & Arkansas (with Petrino) have never landed a top 10 class ever & they were/are winning 9+ games a year. It all goes back to coaching. Plain & simple.

I thought I got that point across to them, but they just won't accept it.

Dooley walked into a terrible situation. The program was down and the image had taken a huge hit. Most recruits now cannot remember when UT was great. Their only memories are of the Vols as either irrelevant or bridesmaids to whoever won the West when UF/UGA were down.

He STILL avg'd about the same finish as Fulmer's last several years. Fulmer "looked" good by signing huge classes that ranked high followed by classes in the high teens or 20's. Worse yet, Fulmer had a VERY high rate of wash outs in his classes.

Dooley couldn't coach. For whatever reason, some here just cannot be satisfied with that and must claim that he did not do a good job of recruiting too. Considering the circumstances, he recruited very well. He leaves a very good foundation of talent... about as good as you can EVER expect when a coach gets fired for losing as much and as significantly as he did.

That fact IMO leaves Jones with few excuses and little time for turning things around. Dooley got 3 years.... Jones should get two to prove he can coach.

Complete overcorrection by a lot of people that supported Dooley now trashing him.

I think Jones gets 3 years minimum and probably 4, just because of the financial situation of the AD. I doubt they want to start paying another coach not to coach as soon as they get out from under Pearl and Dooley.

FWIW, Fulmer avg'd a 17th rank according to Rivals from 2003 to 2008 when the rules favored his big class/small class pattern. Dooley's lowest ranked class in 3 years was 17th. Even if you throw out Fulmer's "outlier" (35th in 2008) he avg'd 13th from 2003-2007 vs 13th for Dooley (or 15th if you don't credit him with '10).

Dooley could not coach. He could not get it done on gameday.

He WAS a good recruiter and actually produced better than Fulmer and without the thuggery.

You're probably right. What "should" be isn't always what "is".

I would not be quick to say Dooley did it without the "thuggery". Did we not lose several kids to drug tests? Drinking charges, bar fights, fleeing police, assult on police, Laptop thefts, cell phone thefts, and DD made huge attempts to cover stuff up(see Da'Rick). God knows how much stuff actually was taking place during DD's time here.

One of the dumbest statements on here, yet we still lack talent to keep up with everyone else... the proof is on the field, Dooley can't recruit.

Great input, sjt. I also appreciate people that can look at this situation logically and use reason. The people who say Dooley can't recruit are just bitter. About what, I don't know. Dooley's situation was MUCH worse than Fulmer's, and he out-recruited Fulmer. Plain and simple. It's amazing what COACHING can do with less talented kids.

I don't understand how people can't grasp this. Not saying he was the best recruiter ever, but it seems pretty clear that he was a far better recruiter than coach.
