Whoever we end up with as our next HC will be a direct reflection on what kind of AD Hart is going to be. The wrong hire and he may as well pack his bags and get the hell out of town imo.

My thoughts exactly. I hope he nails it. From the beginning I wanted a name where I/others say Wow. Nice hire.

What would have been best for the university would have been for them to "know their role" and not try to play AD. Their opinion is valued, as are their $$$$, but they in no way run things.

Ole Miss went through a lot of crap over the years because of the AD running things, then the boosters stepped in last year and it seems they have a good coach. I think if they donate their money to support the AD and the AD continually screws things up, you can't stand by. Its like investing in a company and continually losing money and wanting to keep investing while the same people make the same idiot decisions.

Too me dabo is overated by a country mile, he has talent and underachieves with it. A young mans Mack Brown. GO VOLS!

I'm still on the Gruden Bandwagon, however, if I'm going to consider a different coach, and please don't flame too hard, I think I want James Franklin.

Did y'all see him at the State championship last night? That dudes a friggin ROCKSTAR!

I can't believe Vandy got that guy. Blind squirrel, I guess. Besides Stoops or maybe, just maybe, Fisher, I don't think there's anyone else that has the potential to do better. He would bring electricity we haven't seen from our coach in, well...maybe ever!

Thoughts?

In two years Franklin has turned Vandy into an 8-4 team. This is Vandy folks! Vandy football has the worst historical record of any football team in the SEC. (Vandy=celler dwellers!) Vandy has always been a penciled-in win for UT every year UNTIL NOW!

Franklin is the real deal, folks, and some lucky team will grab him this year or next year. The only reason that Franklin may not come to UT is because Vandy is a state rival, and that would be a cold slap to the face of Vandy!

Dude Hart didn't screw up what was not there to screw up.In this search rumors took on a life of their own and became believable as fact. I chose to ignore info pointing to the truth for months while I chose to live in this fantasy. Its my fault, not blaming anyone. This much I am certain of at this point, but I was certain Gruden was a lot closer than he was so much for my certainty.

Carter are you saying Hargis' front page story was just rumors?

Hargis is the only journalist or media type that has put his reputation on the line in East Tennessee. I have not heard word one from any local media personality or journalist putting their reputation on line for the information they are reporting (which most if not all is coming from the AD's office). Now Woodbery did confirm that he spoke to LaMonte but LaMonte said no offer had been made.

Hargis has stated without reservation that he had two sources one a booster and one a coach who had been contacted by Gruden about coaching with him at UT.

I'm choosing to blame this on Hart. Seemed like he was presented possibly the best college coach in the country, and he screwed it up. Why should I have any faith that the guy that he ends up picking will be a good hire? I sincerely doubt Tennessee will be relevant any time in the coming decade unless we manage to clear out all the self-aggrandizing pin head know it all beurocrats from the UT administration.

Isn't that an asset in the SEC? I'm not pro-Swinney, but I don't see the downside to what you just said.

Sorry I just can't support a huge tool of a coach unless I know he's going to win and win BIG. I can't really enjoy "supporting" a clown like that for 9 wins.

I know that is stupid but just how I feel.

I'll eventually try to talk myself into whoever we hire. Already have with Strong.

Can't the boosters/BOT just fire Hart and hire Gruden if Hart did indeed mess this up? I would think they would do that, makes me think Hart didn't mess it up and will "come to the rescue in the 11th hour" and get Gruden in the end.

Neither bolded are unlikely scenarios in the way I think it played out. Its not important man, you want me to agree with you and I am not going to. Lets just agree to disagree and talk about legitimate candidates and not all the semantics of the Gruden fiasco.

And why is Dave Hart still employed?

Hargis clearly said on the radio that he has seen texts and other evidence that these talks were going on... I believe his booster source was Thornton, and would have been directly involved, as would the coach. Now, did all the boosters want this? That's the question, maybe it was Thornton and others, and maybe some boosters sided with Hart, so Thornton tried to get the story out to push Hart and others to turn it around or make it look bad on them.

If you agree to disagree, then you really can't discuss candidates since, if you're right, Hart might make a decent hire. But if he is right, then Hart won't make a good hire.
