wow thats a switch from last night.. or did i misunderstand your one. I thought you were still all in...:ermm:

Have been completely out since mid day yesterday. Made several posts, argued with people that said I said things I never did, then bowed out for a while.

I do firmly believe the blame in this, if blame has to be assigned, falls more on Grudens side than UT's. I think it became very apparent he was not wanting to come here, and his demands and unwillingness to bend at all forced UT to move on. In the end I think he was just not "up for the challenge".

Again, if he doesn't want to be here, enjoy the NFL and ESPN. Its been so long since I gave a **** about the NFL I thought Joe Montana was still the 49ers QB lol.

I follow and care about one sport and one sport only, college football. The NFL is boring as hell to me.

No one in the media has mentioned anything remotely close to this statement!!! And if it were true, that supposed information would have been leaked to Hyams or Hubbs or some other member of the Knox media!!!

..and actually as I stated earlier even dumba$$ Hyams now admits Gruden was truly interested

Jayson Swain ‏@JaysonSwain

Sumlin, Richt, Muschamp, Petrino, Miles, Meyer are all coaches who have won in the SEC WITHOUT SEC experience. Get a good coach period!

Jayson Swain ‏@JaysonSwain

Mark Richt is playing in his 5th SEC championship game in 12 yrs. Oh yeah I forgot, no SEC HC experience. That can't be right..
Thanks bcarter! I cannot stomach twitter right now. Rival fans are really giving us down the road because of Gruden's agent LaMonte's comments. Ugh!

So besides Lamonte's statement yesterday, has Gruden himself turn down the job or was that fabricated too?

I'm embarrassed to say for a moment I bought into the he wants to come home nonsense. Recent days reminded me he's just a power hungry prick like all of em. A talented one, but one nonetheless. There is no love loss for UT for him. When Liper talked about the sheep letting the wolf lick but not bite I think he hit the nail on the head.

So the elephant in the room is this:

Why hasn't Jon Gruden gone on ESPN and declared UT never asked me to coach, and if they did I would have no interest. Or something to that effect. I can't figure it out. Hart or Gruden could make a direct statement. I don't think that would cause any further embarrassment.

Like Lex says it's not over......there hasn't been a hire made...no info.....etc......

That's why I still believe it's Gruden. I'm not nearly as confident as I was but when you step back and think about I really don't believe that Hart is going to hire somebody other than Gruden if he had the chance. He would be burned alive at the stake.

Doesn't the hire have to be approved by other people as well, I know there is a certain autonomy to his job but I'm sure he's got to have his hire approved by someone higher than him.

I don't think he truly wanted that control either because he never was going to take the job. I think it was all part of an egotistical plan to see how far he could get before having to say no.

Early on the big rumor was Tennessee was going to throw money at Gruden and "make him say no". I think the opposite happened and Gruden kept upping his demands and made UT say no, because he didn't want it in the first place.

I wanted him to be our coach as bad as anyone (and still do) but I think at this point the best decision for UT could actually be to move on. Which clearly is what we are doing.

JMO, but I am an engineer so I'm right most if the time :)

This is what I said last night. If this were a real no I would expect a more polite and gentle rejection from Gruden.

I've been an occasional lurker on these forums for years. Never got interested enough to join until recently, but I've been a Vol fan since the Johnny Majors came marching home from Pitt. This latest search is either the greatest con job in SEC history, or the signs of complete and utter incompetence by an inept AD and University administration.

As I posted last night, I negotiate deals for a living every day. My first boss taught me a useful lesson: "'No' is only a negotiating position."

If the parties WANT to reach a deal, they will. But if one of them doesn't, they won't. But either way, there's nothing any of us interested fans can do except sit back and watch the drama play out.

Engineers always are!

You are saying that Gruden wanted full control over compliance which IS BASED ON A RUMOR per your own post!!!!

How much "control" do you think Saban has? His control was unprecedented and Hart was there to see it! I'd say that Bama has been well served by giving Nick Saban "full control"! Control is not the issue and never was!!!

And FYI every coach in the NCAA or prospective coach knows and fully understands that they must comply with NCAA rules on recruiting, academics, etc!!!

Patrick trust me when I say this I have very good knowledge of how compliance works within an AD. A coach that has full control of it has way too much power when a compliance director is giving NCAA interpretation. Compliance directors can interpret rules differently from school to school to school and when an AD doesn't over see those that spells potential big trouble down the road. My opinion is a coach like gruden wants total control of compliance because he would want a director that has interpretations that are very liberal regarding voluntary activities such as watching film.

...especially considering his wife is an alum, her family lives here, he's done camps here, and always talks about how he loves UT...

Does. Not. Add. Up.

He likes thinking he has us hanging around we like not closing the door.

There are many scenarios that could explain things but the way this went down is baffling. If it looks like crap and smells like crap, it has to be crap.

depends on what kind of engineer you are

Lex and Smokey, can I get your thoughts on this: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tenn...ial-jon-gruden-thread-xiv-70.html#post7877130

Line up with your thoughts?

Here my thoughts, even though they are short and sweet..Maybe Lex can go into more detail.:)

OK..No one can convince me that Hart just started the coaching search and that he has been sitting on his rear doing nothing for the last couple weeks..From what I heard, he was at the men's basketball game last week relaxing and taking it easy..Think about it, if he didn't have his man in the bag, don't you think he would would have been all over the place trying to get a coach locked up and ready to sign?

I think Gruden received his last payment from TB on Nov.29th or 30th..The way I understand if he takes a coaching job before the payments are complete, then he doesn't receive said payment..Can't blame him for waiting on that because he was fired from TB so he deserves every penny that comes his way.

Then there's the MNF factor..He could be waiting to finish out the season on Dec.17th which is in Nashville..Coincidence..I think not..Then again this may not be a factor at all..Just throwing in my :twocents:.

Just think it's too soon(no pun intended) to throw in the towel..I'm in the minority but that's ok I can understnad how others feel.

A high ranking AD member said that with every negotiation that was made and conceded to our our part other demands arose. In his words gruden wasn't going to accept any deal. That's why they had to walk away.

Which high ranking ad member said this?

Because it beneath him. He sent his agent to do it instead.
