Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I think Hart was butthurt over the booster's actions. I am choosing to believe that was early in the process.

I agree with this point completely! If you go back and listen to Harts speech about firing Dooley he was asked about candidates. He had some fairly brash statements where he basically said get out of my way, I am the one with experience in these matters, and let me do my job. It was directed at the media but I think it was really directed at the boosters and the dealings they had been working around his position. Go back and listen to it. It is fairly telling in my humble opinion.

Still waiting for the buzzer. Gruden!

He likes thinking he has us hanging around we like not closing the door.

I thought about that before I posted. What is stopping Hart from getting on TV and telling Vol fans all over the country that there is 0 chance? Goes both ways.

My gut is telling me we are about to hire a coach that has not even been mentioned and we are all going to be pleasantly surprised. Just a feeling. Trying to stay positive.

Hungover to say the least .... but hanging in there.. still... :zeitung_lesen:

I want answers, dammit :search:

I agree.. We all want answers. I am not willing to count JG out yet. There is just too much that does not add up. I thinks I will just sit back and sees what happens. :)

I've been an occasional lurker on these forums for years. Never got interested enough to join until recently, but I've been a Vol fan since the Johnny Majors came marching home from Pitt. This latest search is either the greatest con job in SEC history, or the signs of complete and utter incompetence by an inept AD and University administration.

As I posted last night, I negotiate deals for a living every day. My first boss taught me a useful lesson: "'No' is only a negotiating position."
If the parties WANT to reach a deal, they will. But if one of them doesn't, they won't. But either way, there's nothing any of us interested fans can do except sit back and watch the drama play out.

Exactly!!!!!

Regardless of what happens, I think that the AD list that has been floating around for three weeks is bunk.

So the elephant in the room is this:

Why hasn't Jon Gruden gone on ESPN and declared UT never asked me to coach, and if they did I would have no interest. Or something to that effect. I can't figure it out. Hart or Gruden could make a direct statement. I don't think that would cause any further embarrassment.

One other thing. Silence is our friend. Interesting to see what happens rest of gameday today. Do they mention gruden or does sanders or someone put him on the spot on mnf or do they remain silent!!. last week Sanders mentioned tenn twice. and gruden not a peep for 10to 15 sec twice.

You spoke to the high ranking ad member or was this reported by somebody?

Not reported. I have posted a number of times I have one high ranking booster that I talk to regulary. The "I was told" post are coming from him. He spoke with an assistant AD on Thursday and was told what I have posted.

Here my thoughts, even though they are short and sweet..Maybe Lex can go into more detail.:)

OK..No one can convince me that Hart just started the coaching search and that he has been sitting on his rear doing nothing for the last couple weeks..From what I heard, he was at the men's basketball game last week relaxing and taking it easy..Think about it, if he didn't have his man in the bag, don't you think he would would have been all over the place trying to get a coach locked up and ready to sign?

I think Gruden received his last payment from TB on Nov.29th or 30th..The way I understand if he takes a coaching job before the payments are complete, then he doesn't receive said payment..Can't blame him for waiting on that because he was fired from TB so he deserves every penny that comes his way.

Then there's the MNF factor..He could be waiting to finish out the season on Dec.17th which is in Nashville..Coincidence..I think not..Then again this may not be a factor at all..Just throwing in my :twocents:.

Just think it's too soon(no pun intended) to throw in the towel..I'm in the minority but that's ok I can understnad how others feel.

I'm part of the minority too. I'm just not willing to count JG out yet. Like I said before, too much of this does not make sense.

Still waiting for the buzzer. Gruden!

Except he doesn't have experience in making a big time coaching hire. Hart blows regardless of anything: pack sh*t, get out

I'm sure this has already been discussed but after following this thread from the get go and wasting the better part of a week doing so I'm too tired to look back for it. Here's my question, if Hart just spoke with Gruden's agent for the first time yesterday as the agent 'claims' and we now know that Hart just started the interview process yesterday, what the h#ll has he been doing for the past two weeks? Sitting back waiting for some top tier coach to fall in his lap? I don't get it. So much of this doesn't add up imo.

Because it is a lie of ommision.

...and there are other high ranking boosters telling people the deal was done....so who to believe

There is another way to look at this. Perhaps Hart started getting suspiscious early on that Gruden was going to continue moving the goalposts and not sign any deal. Perhaps that is way Hart started interviewing other candidates. And finally, perhaps this is UT's way of saying enough is enough: if you want to be our coach, let's close the deal--otherwise let's both move on.

This seems like the most plausible scenario IMO (especially after reading Leonard's quotes). I think this is what bcarter is getting at, too.

Because it beneath him. He sent his agent to do it instead.

Maybe, but as I said last night, do you leave this situation as a "fantasy land" ?

I do not see him NOT at least addressing this. Too many ties here to humiliate UT...which that statement essentially does.

Lamonte is an ass. All I know.

Fedora over Mora? Disagree.

I would throw a lot of money at Mora for him and a great staff and see what he can do. He was 3 points away from winning the PAC 12 in his first year with virtually no support.

Its a toss up. I like how Fedora carries himself. I am fine with Mora, just know less about him. My list is a fan list, not an expert lol.

If you REALLY want to get down to it, and I am putting on a flame retardant suit before I say this but keeping it real.....Franklin would probably be ahead of them both and just behind Strong if not for the chance of embarrassment over a public denial and subsequent bashing of the Vols.
