Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I'm not sure what you know, but is there any truth to a meeting between only Hart (no boosters present and without their knowledge) and JG/Lamonte....immediately after Gruden would no longer take calls from anyone affiliated with Tennessee.

Same person told me Hart was against the Gruden hire from the beginning and was furious that contact had been made before Dooley was fired. Also, before thanksgiving, boosters went over Harts head to Cheek and got him fully on board 100%....the 18 million resulted from this.

Also, the week leading up to Alabama, three prominent boosters met with Gruden face to face and got a verbal agreement. A few days later six boosters agreed to finance Gruden's salary, the current staff's buyout. The only thing the University would be responsible for was Gruden's staff and a few of their buyouts from other schools. Boosters wanted Dooley canned following SC loss but Hart was still wanting to bring him back for a fourth season. After Troy and Hart still refusing to make a decision, two of the six boosters dropped out of the financial agreement.

Heard all of this from the same person. I have confirmed some of it with a few people that know more than me. Haven't wanted to drop such specific details but I don't think it really matters anymore.

If this is true Hart will be next to go!

And some said the end of Nov. No one knows for sure if he is still even owed money from Tampa. Just grasping at straws trying to explain things IMO.

Well I did read an article from when he fired that said they had to pay him $5m/year through the 2012 season. Obviously, the season isn't over and the terms and conditions of payment weren't specified in the article. The total buyout for Gruden & the GM (also fired at the time) was speculated to be $25m.

Haha Basilio mentioned something along these lines earlier today. If true you'd have to question the man's judgement

That , or what he actually wants to happen while he is here. I really wonder if he wants to see Tennessee return to power , if everything being said is true. He might burn that bridge back to Bama. Not saying I fully believe the rumors , but some things are adding up.

Gruden until they walk someone else to the podium. The distant hope of him being our coach, to me; is better then any other of these mediocre candidates becoming a reality. Keep the faith.

I dont know who reported the Bucs still owe Gruden money...but if its true...its deferred money, that has no implications at this point. His contract ended in 2011...it does not matter if he is owed money at this point or not...any deferred money, is still money in his pocket...this crap about him having to wait, because of a final payment...is just another FANTASY

Here's the thing.. For the right HC what wouldn't we pay???? Budget be damned! Pay the man and let's get back to winning!!

If we want to compete with Bama,.ever again, we are either going to have to ante up for the best coach and staff or do like the Barners and start paying players.

Why hasnt hart made an official announcement about the search, not necesarily gruden, but, in general? You would think he would of done it today. I hope he gets asked a lot of questions

I agree with you 100% dude. If gruden truly "loves" TN and this university so much, why would he let THAT be his official statment? Yes, it was his agent, but his agent is supposed to speak FOR him. wtf? Maybe that's actually how he feels

I agree. My wife went to a different school than me. No way in hades am I going to allow somebody speaking for me disparage her school. And, this is especially true for Gruden because of his ties to other people from the program (Majors, manning, etc.).

If he allows this to stand, the F him.

Jesus Christ dude he is starting a program being left in $hitty shape. You will just have to draw your own conclusion after a few top 5 classes. He will be our next coach so if you dont like it then I am sorry and I can say is go pull for Saban, Muschamp, Richt, Miles etc.

I actually like him...just not sold...24-15 in the Big East?
He's an easier sell than a lot of other candidates but not a Home Run.

AJeray, Coasty, Goat, Jake, Sam, Doyle, Smokey, Pattiy, Boro, Jay, OV, DTO, Gman, Wilson and any of my orange bruthas I may be forgetting...this has been a helluva ride and I hope once a coach is hired we will have a thread like this to hang and have fun! I also hope that the next coach turns out to be the F'n man and helps restore my faith in this program and hopefully have us back at the top, sooner rather than later. I also hope that we can all enjoy a day in Knoxville getting to know eachother and drink our asses off and enjoy watching our Vols kick some damn ass! I don't personally know ya, but by God I love ya!! GBFO!!!

Same back at you VolMaster.

Same here. Best threads on VN.

Don't pretend to know it all, and I am limited in what information I can get (can't really ask for it, just comes when it comes). Last night knocked me off my couch. Total shock. Gruden was coming. If everyone only knew how close we were to getting him...you think people are pissed now...

If they were at PissCon 3 today, I don't want to see or hear PissCon 1 when we hear how close we were. :)

It would be exactly the right amount for a staff comprised of a rising coordinator.

Smart actually has been Hart's guy for a long time and I was told this again the end of October. If or when this changed I don't know.

I've been trying to find an article I read at the time we ended up with Dooley that dealt with the rumors of Smart looking at open HC spots. It stated that Saban told Smart to stay put and he could have the Tennessee HC job in three years.

Speaking of Leonard.....SOmething to lift our spirits.....

When we were an AWESOME program.......(sigh)

I have ZERO faith in Hart and this dog and pony show act from Gruden is pissing me off.

I understand what you are saying....:hi:

Everything seems a little to shady..... All I can say is that I was basically told the day that CDD would be announced and was told a month in advance even though members of the press said it wasn't true.....

The same person continuosly told me over and over that it wasn't complete even though others were claiming it was done....

Then last night I was told it was finally wrapped up and it was a go... I took it with a grain of salt as I always do.....

Again the info could be wrong, but I in no way think I have been purposely mislead.... Sure something could have happened, but I still believe it as crazy as it sounds..

I think it is safe to say that I have never tries to convince anyone that they should believe... I have simply repeated what I was told nor has my timeline and/or info matched anyone's info/timeline exactly..:hi:

People do not realize how close we were to signing Gruden.

A press conference was expected on Friday.

It came down to extra money for assistant coaches.

Hart should have just paid them.
