Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

It really was perfectly crafted to get that gut check violent 'oh no he didn't' reaction from this fan base that does have a history of burning bedding first and thinking later...lol

It successfully slowed the roll everywhere on the Gruden to UT hype that had gotten way out in front of what the interested parties needed it to be. Once the needed timelines pass I'll be more than shocked to see Jon not in our colors than to see him in them.

This is what is keeping me going:thumbsup:

It's fishy for sure. From where I sit, it didn't sound at all like golly gee wiz it just didn't work out. It was more like someone came out of a room and starting venting. I get the sense I heard this stuff pretty quick after the fact (if that gives you an idea of where I was getting it.)

That makes it sound like emotions and not cooler heads prevailing which usually happens in the end with big negotiations like this.

I'm about 30% on this, it's plausible, all this conflicting reports, seems like everyone is adjusting stories, including the ESPN release about confirmed talks, that doesn't line up with LaMonte, etc... I doubt it at this point, but this isn't the first crazy hire that has been denied because of too much media. So, until I see a coach hired I'm:

are we getting bored or what?

I know I've never posted before and I've seen how that comes across, but I've been reading for awhile (enjoying the entertainment but also being excited about the chance to have Gruden at UT). I've seen the question asked about Gruden's last payment from the Bucs so I looked it up. It seems like he has already gotten it.

This article was written in December of 2011.
"And in 2008, they increased his salary yet again. This time they paid him $15 million for 3 years, or $5 million a year until 2011...Gruden's contract will come off the books this offseason..."

I'm not sure what you know, but is there any truth to a meeting between only Hart (no boosters present and without their knowledge) and JG/Lamonte....immediately after Gruden would no longer take calls from anyone affiliated with Tennessee.

Same person told me Hart was against the Gruden hire from the beginning and was furious that contact had been made before Dooley was fired. Also, before thanksgiving, boosters went over Harts head to Cheek and got him fully on board 100%....the 18 million resulted from this.

Also, the week leading up to Alabama, three prominent boosters met with Gruden face to face and got a verbal agreement. A few days later six boosters agreed to finance Gruden's salary, the current staff's buyout. The only thing the University would be responsible for was Gruden's staff and a few of their buyouts from other schools. Boosters wanted Dooley canned following SC loss but Hart was still wanting to bring him back for a fourth season. After Troy and Hart still refusing to make a decision, two of the six boosters dropped out of the financial agreement.

Heard all of this from the same person. I have confirmed some of it with a few people that know more than me. Haven't wanted to drop such specific details but I don't think it really matters anymore.

Sure would be nice if you would say who that person is.

Question... If Hart rolls out some waterboy for coach, can all of us grudenites vow to rise up and make a stand before Dec, 21? I mean something good has to happen for Vol football before the end, right?

Whoa, hold on now. Did I miss that? Where was that said as a fact? Not doubting, just wanting to know. Thanks in advance.

Could not find original post you quoted but it sounds like you are talking about the Times free press guy that broken the story last night. If so, he said on Chattanooga radio this afternoon. that he had been shown a text on a phone of a person... from lamonte that said if the money is there for the assistants Gruden would accept the job. Text was from Lamonte to be clear according to him.

On Wednesday, there was a rumored cancellation of a meeting because Gruden said
don't come without a second contract." This nsinuates that Gruden wanted concessions.

My guess is that Hart (or somebody from UT) finally spoke to Lamonte, but smugly told Lamonte that UT wasn't moving any more and take it or leave it.

That would cause the consternation and the F you.
