To those of you still holding on, why are you? Is it that hargis report? I mean, the og's that I've seen seem to be saying it's over. I'm just trying to figure out if there is any sense in putting any more hope into this situation. I will GLADLY move on if an official statement is ma....oh wait, there was one today wasn't there?

Never been 100%, but refuse to say its over. When the next HC walks to the podium and its not Gruden, then I'll say its over.

To be clear, I'm not a Gruden fan, but I do think he is the best answer for quick turnaround of program. I think his antics will get old fast. But I also believe he would have enough early success and bring the right Assistant Coaches such that the right successor would be on his staff and success could be sustained when he inevitably moved on to the next thing. That's just the way he is.

So with that said, purely to make it clear that I'm not blinded by Gruden love. The reason i still hold out hope is that nothing in any of this process makes sense. To believe what we are being told you have to accept that we have the worst run university in the country and that all the strings are being pulled by a bunch of red neck boosters that are so stupid and naive that they can be duped by a complete jerk (Gruden), his high roller lawyers in NY and an agent that is a known to be the biggest manipulator in the industry.

I don't believe we have the worst run University in the country. I don't believe our boosters are a bunch of stupid naive rednecks. I don't believe Gruden is a jerk. And ok, I do hate most lawyers on principal and belive LaMonte to be pure scum. But aside from that I go back to my original point. I will believe that it is possible until someone else is introduced as our next Head Coach.

Here is the thing. If Gruden really wanted to be here and the boosters really wanted him here, he would be here. They would each reel in the troublemaker on their side and tell them to get it done.

I agree to a point, but each of the principals can be convinced that they can get something better out of the deal by their agents. This is why I believe we're at the hardball point of the negotiation.

Hart saying "I have a level of expertise" really bothered me in the news conference. It take a level of "expertise" to hire a damn football coach? Wonder if Jeremy Foley would say that or would he say find the best coach you can and pay him?

My take on what went down is this...Everybody including Hart knows that if Gruden wants the job he would be here. Hart played this in a way to find out if he wanted the job, which is different from willing to accept the job. I think Gruden was willing to accept the job if properly enticed, but didn't necessarily want the job. Once they both figured each other out, they both backed away to save face. In my experience once face saving starts, there is no more negotiating. This is dead people. Im as upset as anybody else. But its dead.

Very good post right here. I like it!

Again, I don't know, but it sure looks like it based on my experience.
Also, as I said earlier, LaMonte is winning already by getting the boosters all riled up with Hart.

I'm with you 100%, I think LaMonte gets Hart back to the table before Hart brings LaMonte back.

Here is the thing. If you are a decent negotiator, you ALWAYS leave the door open for the other side to come back with their dignity. ALWAYS. Even if you and the other side have just napalmed the he!! out of each other.

If Gruden wants this deal done (which I actually doubt), Lamonte will play Hart like a fiddle to get the best deal possible.

The one thing I forgot to add to this pi$$ing contest is how slighted Hart felt by being gone around. The money met with Gruden and got an agreement (according to Y4B, who I believe). Hart CAN'T have been happy to find out that people whose jobs do not depend on this hire thought that they could do his job for him.

Just a thought as to why Dave might be playing hardball. LaMonte has the prize, sure, but the AD is in full fah q mode at the moment and is willing to make the $$$ sweat for their guy. I don't know Hart from Adam, but I would be willing to bet he's willing to teach the $$$ a little lesson.

Basilio has been saying for weeks that Hart is the wildcard in the hire and that he may go out and hire who he wants. Hart knows that if the booster give him any problems he would resign and put the program in further turmoil.

I would not say I am in that group. Been in since the start. I have information from connections in the AD, Boosters (of which I am) and former players. Things I have been told are between what the OG's have and cuttinitclose have had. I know that all of those guys have been given info that was believed to be true. So much has leaked and been made up so fast it is hard to separate it all. I just know enough to say that it is not totally over. That is from those with money that are close to the real action. My checks are not big enough to be in that circle but enough to know some who are. Personally the biggest mistake I see if it does die is the stubbornness of Hart to let it get this far without letting the fan base know. We need to be unified one way or the other.

Powdersville? Nice to see there are a few VOL fans in my neighborhood. My kids certainly do take a ribbing from all the Tigger and chicken fans around here.....

I really hope your continued optimism on choice #1 is warranted.

The problem for Hart is that he's negotiating from a weak position. UT is desperate, and LaMonte knows it. Hart is like a young girl whose car breaks down in a shyster's used car lot.

Let Hart resign. I welcome it.

No one else at the podium, anything can happen.

ur right anything can happen. im about 50/50 with the gruden thing...everyone one can lie and miss lead, only time time will tell. sum ppl just love to piss down ur back and tell u thats it raining...its hard to believe anymore, only time will tell....

I've been sitting around thinking about this thread and how huge it has become and I was thinking of any possible one that could someday rival it and I think there's one that can and will someday. Let's look past this next head coach. Let's hypothetically say whoever it is makes it 7-8 years. Let's assume Peyton retires in about 4 and then starts doing announcer type work like gruden. Once he's out of playing and we start looking his name is bound to come up and would, in my opinion be by far the craziest amount of hype and rumors ever.... Gonna be insane. What say y'all? Not in any way saying he will ever coach the team or any team but the expectations for him to do so will be All over the place

Why the he!! Would our boosters have started planning a new coach after the Florida game? That makes no sense as it was our first loss. What if Dooley had won out? No way he gets fired after going 11-1, and they would have already negotiated a contract with Gruden?

Ummm...anybody who watches a lot of football knew Doolz was clueless in his first year at UT. Sorry not to be a d**k but people in the know knew the worthlessness going on behind the scenes. Seven head coaches leave. See chatt recruiting piece.

Not saying yay4bray is right but others have said boosters offered to buy Doolz out after Kentucky last year. Again Knox media failed to report on how awful Dooley really was.

Where's Driveby?? What caused the breakoff today Yay4bray? simple question

What are you talking about? Didn't you see his response? He broke it down like a boss. He said boosters talked to JG after Florida loss, gauged his interest. Boosters and JG drafted a MOU (whatever that is :eek:lol:) and it was signed. Then the boosters told Hart to hire Gruden. Then End.

All I could think was
