Not that I buy this totally but if true, why would you surmise Hart is not addressing this? Doesn't he understand he will have a **** storm on his hands if he prances out onto the stage with a Fedora or a Golden without even addressing what happened or didnt happen with Gruden? Is he not aware after the end of this season what a half full Neyland looks like and what it costs the university?

I bet if you polled 1000 UT fans, at least 750 of them will say they would be "vastly disappointed" with anyone not named Gruden given how this has gone to date. Rumors everywhere, UTAD unwilling to comment, radio running wild with everything they hear.

How can we expect ANY good coach to succeed under these circumstances that a SIMPLE press release that "Jon Gruden is NOT a candidate for the HC job at UT" would fix if it is in fact over? Until UT does this, or Jon Gruden comes out and says point blank he is not taking the UT job, the next coach has a major uphill battle. If Hart doesn't see this and move to correct it UT football has a long uphill road to fill the stadium again. The few seats I have are not that important to UT probably, but I am waiting to renew until I see how this goes down. I bet a lot of people feel that way and if it ends up being Strong, Fedora, Golden, or Jones I am done for a while. Will get more fishing done and save money in gas for the big boat.

people are going to blame Hart for this, but he can only do so much. Gruden or any other coach will never have full control at the University Of Tennessee at this current time. Football takes a back seat to many different things at this current time and that is out of Harts hands.

you may be right for game 1 - but it doesnt matter the coaches name if they go out and beat florida the seats will fill up very fast

If what im hearing this morning is correct, and i believe it is, time to move on from Gruden. No doubt Gruden would inject enthusiasm in the fan base and turn the heads of high profile recruits. But the man is unproven at the college level and simply wants to much control, not to mention the guy is a egomaniac. From what im gathering, its sounding like he feels he should not have to answer to anyone anything football related if he were the coach. That will not happen here. Time for plan b.

If true, maybe Gruden's experience with Tampa Bay taught him he needs control to be successful. Devil is in the details of how much control (compliance etc) or it could be Hart doesn't want to give up ANY of his AD turf. I'm sure you know better than most given your involvement with the Dept if Gruden's demands are too risky for the University.

What I am hearing you say is we are going to continue to play second fiddle to Bama, Florida, Georgia, and USCjr in the East for the foreseeable future because of people caring more about academics being in par with Vandy then putting a competitive product on the field. If that's the case, maybe we should just hire Franklin. He has proven he can win at a school that could give a **** about the football program. I just have a hard time accepting that is now the attitude at UT.

Bottom line is he wants to come, and we can pay him what he wants, but something structurally he wants is something Hart doesn't have the power to give? That's what I am hearing anyway.

Are the names you're hearing line up with the other rumored names out there? Any surprises?

Golden, Fisher, Strong, Mora, Fedora, Jones and Marrone. I dont understand Golden at all, i think he would really struggle here recruiting. Strong i think would recruit great here, would be very important who he surrounded himself with. I think Jones could do a great job here as would Mora. I dont want Fisher, Davis, Petrino or Golden here, but it doesnt matter what i think. Those are just my opinions.

If this is indeed our working list now, prepare for ensuing **** cloud.

I know my posts this morning have come off as emotional, and maybe they are. My biggest fear in all of this was Gruden wanting to be here and somehow UT screwing up the chance and settling...again. If Skeeter is spot on, then that fear is being realized and it pisses me off at UT in a major way. Not that they didn't get Gruden if in fact it is over, but basically the same reason players can line up against us at other SEC schools that do not academically qualify to line up for us is the reason. It has to be. We will never again be top tier competitive until there is true parody in academic requirements for all schools within the conference.

What does 'full control' entail. If it's full control of football operations, UT needs to get out of the stone age and decide how competitive they want to be moving forward.

If it is Cheek that is creating this barrier, he needs to step back and realize how much money he has squandered when his 'yes' man Mike Hamilton took unprecedented amounts of money from the AD to fund Cheek's supposed vision of being a top 25 research university.

Time to get a legitimate coach to fill the stands and increase revenue. For the life of me, I have never understood how incompetent morons with an agenda like the Cheek's of the world get in the positions they do.

Mora is the only one on this list I can honestly say I could get behind even moderately.

Are Patterson, Stoops, Gundy, and Shaw all out of the running from what you hear?

So now we get to hear all the excuses on how Gruden to UT was a done deal and Cheek/Hart/Academics kept it from happening. Can't wait :good!:

Let it out, my friend. Even though I'm part of the academic side at the university, I agree with you. We need a good working relationship between the AD and Academics that allows both to be competitive and not just one side (i.e., Academics).

You don't want Butch Davis but you want Butch Jones????

Susan Martin is important in all of this as well. I wish cal-Barkley would offer her a job so she could pack up and head back home. I would help her pack and move.

So that's mostly a list of guys in the ACC or BigEast and none of them have won either of those terrible, terrible conferences. Sound like great fits for the SEC.

I'm just going to keep hoping fro Gruden, because there is no hope at all in that list above.

Agree about Mora. He's the only one from that list that might have the potential. I just wish he had at least one more year under his belt at UCLA. Hard to go off of one year.

If we are not going big, I would like to see us nab Charlie Strong and retain the majority of our offensive staff. Pittman and Graham are no brainers. I think Hinshaw and yes Chaney should stay in this scenario.

If Hart and/or the University screw this up, we have a bunch of dumbsh!ts running the show. We have 7 home games next season plus the O&W game. Factor in ticket sales for the regular season games and concessions for all games and the financial impact of hiring Gruden and not hiring Gruden is drastic for the bottomline. The "control" issue and Gruden being a "egomaniac" is a bunch of BS. There is absolutely no way Gruden fails. He would recruit top-3 classes year in and year out and whenever he left, UT would be in a much better situation than we he came. Heck, even if he just comes for a year or two then decides the college game is not for him, the UTAD and University will have made so much more money with him than without him, that his tenure would have been a success. Plus, Gruden would be able to land a top-5 recruiting class this year which would help the program regardless of when he leaves. Failing to get Gruden is simply not an option when the money is there to support it and Gruden himself wants to be here.

Once entrenched it is much, much more difficult to get changes made. Screw Hamilton for ever rolling over and not fighting tooth and nail for athletics. Dickey would have never gone down without a fight on these issues. He actually understood what was important for success.
