I had Gruden at less than 10% chance to be here up until about a week ago. At that juncture, everyone that I've talked with says he isn't coming so I reduced to less than 5% chance. He is an NFL guy and that is where folks see him going.

this amendment does not address the academic requirements that are the issues between the athletic and academic sides. the BOT meeting had nothing on agenda, to my knowledge, that would address any of that.

those issues are still present. Those issues have built up over 10 years. removing Cheek is only a start to resolving them and it might take years to get where they need to be

If what Larry is posting here is true.... we are screwed for the next 10 years at least... not saying I agree, just if he is correct

Doesn't sound like Larry is changing his stance on JG

Did today do anything to change the academic side to all this?

The hold up with Gruden wasnt neccessarily (sp?) the academic standards on the AD, it was the control over his program he was offered. Previously, Hart reported directly to Cheek, but money was passed along as it would be now. Cheek still had the power. Now that its been formally changed, Hart reports to a different person. Cheek is still above Hart, but its now more in an academic side role, not on control of the program itself, thats run through the new guy. They wanted somebody with an AD touch to handle the link between AD and University. Thus, control is now in Harts hands, thus Grudens. This vote, while it seems small in wording, is much more symbolical in the balance of power at UT. Cheek still is not a popular person, and now the pressure is on him to adjust academic standards to whatever the AD wants ATP to keep his job, or they will bring in someone that will. That is how the argument is presented to Gruden. The Boosters pretty much asked what needs done to make UT your home, and this was the big move they needed in place. Like i said, now the situation is between Hart and Gruden to coordinate timing to prevent a PR nightmare. So far, they've run a media cooldown to perfection. Expect to hear more and more of a "Gruden to NFL" shift in the following month. Sources will be given misleading information to prevent another message board nightmare like a couple weeks ago. Harts done a fabulous job handling this situation. Has earned his pay if this doesnt fall through.

We have to remember that The "agenda" had titles. That when they brought up the item, that that item had already been discussed in its entirety before hand as to what it actually meant. Thats why you had a vote on said item without discussion, just a yes or a no vote.

I understand your logic, and with a smaller QB class such as after his senior year I would agree completely, but this year has a deep QB pool that is extremely top heavy.

Matt Barkley-USC
Colin Klein- KSU
Logan Thomas-Va. Tech
Tyler Wilson- Ark
Aaron Murray- UGA
Mike Glennon- NCSU
K. Price- UW
Landry Jones-Oklahoma
Seth Doege- TX Tech

Any of these guys could be argued as higher rated than Bray, I am probably forgetting some, but IMO Bray would be at best a late 3rd rounder...

Colin Klein won't get drafted until late-especially with the disaster Tebow has been as a passer in the NFL. You forgot Geno Smith and AJ McCarron. Smith, AJ, Barkely, Wilson, and maybe even Murray and Thomas could go before Bray. Same with Jones. If Tajh Boyd goes pro he could go before Bray (ironic, I know).

I have said it before on this board-if Ryan Mallet did not go off the board until the 3rd round, what evidence do we have that Bray would? He has had 1 good game against a decent SEC defense, and there are a lot of questions about his football knowledge. The "White Board" counts for as much as anything during the combine, and he might not fare too well-QBs that are not allowed to audible normally don't. I wish the kid well, but arm talent alone no longer means you go in the 1st round. The NFL has evolved in that respect.

Good. To me it's as simple as saying you get a number of exceptions each year for each sport. Not hard to do

Could that be done behind closed door alread without our knowledge... or would this have to be public information.

If it must be public, there is no chance we are there yet

Yes, but he now has someone keeping him accountable. That is the big thing, Cheek is no longer the be all and end all, controlling all aspects. He now controls administration and someone else has the money. The basic ideal of political checks and balances...

Again, not true. He wasn't the decision maker previously. All development monies went to UTFI and they decided what to do with it and how much to give back. This puts it back to the way it was previously prior to the UTFI's creation. The Chancellor and his office now have more autonomy over where the funds go.

I realize Cheek is made out to be the enemy but the representation this removes him from the equation is not true.

Explain where and why the JG to the nfl smoke screen is being put in place from?

Thank you for the explanation.

If your right you make the other reliable guys look ridiculous with one line hints. Finally someone with balls!

The Grude to NFL is from Gruden. He is a media genius. He knows his calls are being monitered, and hes fully aware of clauses in his contract. He knows his associates arent going to dig into his contract to much when they smell a story thats going to excite a few fan bases, so he wont confirm or deny anything and continue to make NFL calls and let his associates in the media do the rest for him. Its brilliant, really. He does little to no work, and it completes the task he has it meant for.
