The Runner's thread

been sick all week and the cold weather and gusting winds have won out. Going to force myself to get just a couple of miles in at least today.

What a bunch of pansies. Weather, sickness, and a rub injury.

You guys disappoint me

Just finished 4 miles flat Drill SGT. 8:00/mile. I head for Airborne School in January so I'm slowing myself to be able to run the 9 minute mile pace. I despise running slow.

Running slow hurts. I can't stand running in formation. That's one advantage of being a Drill. I get to run outside the formation

That's one good thing about being in a SOF unit. We might do two battalion runs a year. Every great once in a while my old PSG would make us run the first mile of a 5 or 6 miler in formation but that was it. I can't stand formation runs either.

Signed up for the Uwharrie 20 miler this morning. What have I done????????

Been wanting to do it for 3 years but forget every year. Woke up this morning and at 8:30 saw that registration opened at 9 AM and it sells out in 5 minutes. Impulse registration. Now that I've spent $54 I have to train for it. Doesn't this sound fun...

Running the Uwharrie Trail is a true adventure that requires intense concentration. The national forest terrain is hilly and the trail is treacherous. Fallen leaves conceal rocks, roots, sticks, and holes. Expect to trip and fall at least once during the day. If you turn an ankle, keep moving. Dutchman’s Creek flows along part of the trail and runners will enjoy numerous stream crossings, which may mean wet feet if you aren’t careful. The creek water is not safe to drink.

The trail is well marked with white blazes painted on trees at frequent intervals. Two blazes indicate an approaching sharp turn. Disregard yellow and red blazes. IF YOU STOP SEEING WHITE BLAZES YOU ARE OFF THE TRAIL. Retrace your steps to the last white blaze then circle around until you find the trail. If you find yourself in a part of the forest posted with hunting signs YOU ARE OFF THE TRAIL. Don’t follow other runners into unblazed territory. Don’t become discouraged if you get lost. Even experienced trail runners occasionally lose their way.

If I can finish in 4 hrs or less I'll be happy. Winner last year was just under 2 1/2 hrs and last place was just under 6 hrs 45 min.

if you think thats impressive...the 40 miler turns around and runs back to the start. I think psychologically that would be tough. Gotta a few friends doing that race.

What was the quickest time that someone finished the 40 miler? By the way... 40 miles is nuts... even on pavement.

Race record is 5:49. Last year winner did it in 6:30. My friend ran it for the first time last year & he did it in 7:30 for a ninth place finish. He usually finishes in the top 5 when he runs an ultra.

That's crazy. How long did he have to train for it?
