Nobody is is supporting "mediocrity" the worst record anyone is willing to accept this year is 7-5 with a bowl win followed by a much improved defense next year. 8-5 would be the best record that we have had since 2007, and would atleast show a move in a positive direction and that he deserves the chance to graduate one of his senior classes.

I clearly understand this, but I think showing progress would have been by beating a team you were more talented than at every position outside of the DB position.

I agree we can put up points no one stops us from doing that but ourselves; however, I do think they have a top guy in the secondary Milliner is very underrated imo and I expect him to be matched up with CP all game long.

He is good. but not Dre Kirkpatrick, Mark Barron, Kareem Jackson.

We didn't clearly out talent them at running back after Lane and Neal went down. We don't clearly out talent anybody at line backer, especially with Maggitt out. We didn't clearly out talent them at QB either as Russell and Bray are both good QB's that have been making plays all year long. Yes, we were more talented at oline, wr, and dline though, but the talent gap overall is not anywhere near what you are making it out to be.

Dear Dooley,

I know this is a little awkward for us both. Let's be honest, men don't write men letters. It's weird. Since there's no denying that, here is my weird letter.

You took this job when no one else wanted it, and have represented the University with class. Your witty comments and orange pants are always entertaining, and it is apparent that you despise the ignorance of the local media as much as we do. The off the field image of Tennessee has improved with your introduction of the VFL program and the decrease of embarrassing arrests.

Although the deck was stacked against you with a depleted roster made up of players from two previous coaching staff, you have done a solid job in recruiting, bringing high character recruits and pretty solid talent considering the fact that we have not done much winning lately.

Wins have not come as frequently as we all have hoped. Although, rational minds understand that it has not been exactly an equal playing field, with last year's inexcusable Kentucky debacle a prime example, and I would argue we out-talented Mississippi State this past week. Anyways, you have received a pass from much of the fan base for having to play the meat of the schedule without top talent, or with top talent on crutches and in casts. That brings me to my point...

This year we began to have hope. The roster was maturing into more upperclassmen and we chose to believe that every staff position was upgraded. The hype machine began to run out of control leading up to Florida, and that's not your fault, but the subsequent loss really left a mark on this fragile and fickle fan base. Now, although we do not have quite the talent of the top 5 teams in the SEC, we can see that we are getting closer, and this is encouraging. What is painful, is to watch consistent mistakes, that seem to be correctable, and not understand why this team is not performing up to what seems to be it's high potential.

The Mississippi State game was a perfect example of that. Comical mistakes, and a team that disappeared for long periods of time were both mysterious and disturbing. While some will use the "never beaten a ranked opponent" card on you, some of us realize that this was really the first year you have had a fighting chance. Every opportunity must be seized and capitalized on. To this point, the team has not done that, outside of a valiant effort at Georgia. There are 6 games left in this regular season. Whether it is right or wrong, we as fans have penciled the final four games in as victories... we expect to be able to do that as Tennessee fans. The proof of where this program is heading is found in the next two weeks against Alabama and South Carolina. We need hope. We need you to show that you have what it takes to win in this league. I'm not even saying that there has to be a victory in there, but give us something to believe in, because so far, this season has been flash in the pan and then gone.

I am in your corner, but want what's best for this team. Please prove that it is you and your coaching staff.

Sincerely,
no-homo deranged fan

Worth quoting again. Bravo, sir.

If you can see the future, can you let me know if we sign Lawson, Green, and North in this class?

MSU beat us. MSU can easily upset someone.
Once Lawson parts from Auburn, he will be able to go anywhere, so there is no telling. Green and North will nice to land, but they won't be signed to make tackles..... Or cover....

Its just my opinion man, and you have yours, but I just didn't think much of MSU.

I note that because before the season began, Dooley made a major tactical mistake that now threatens to prematurely cost him his job. In a moment of temporary insanity, he proclaimed that this team was the first time that he felt we could stand toe to toe and be competitive with any team in the country and that for the first time since he arrived at UT he had good depth.

mlsoft

it is not clear to me at all that he is mistaken on this - we have been right in the game in each of the 3 losses - so we did stand toe to toe as opposed to getting our clock cleaned - we just competed really well and lost

Dude youre not getting what im saying. They are not making impacts NOW.

other teams are getting impacts from instate guys right off the bat.

were not.

and you cant count clear, hes not on the team. Janzen wouldve been helping our D if he wasnt a methhead

South Carolina only has 4 starters from instate in the 10 class. UT would have 3 if Clear didn't get kicked off. Its not that big of a difference.

I agree we have competed just like he said we are few mistakes by players and coaches alike from being 5-1 going into the Bama game. It's football it's a few play's here and there can change a game and a season that's why we watch every week no matter how bad your team is and how mad they make you.

MSU weakness on D is/was LB. Ran all over them when we actually did run it. Russell played well, but our secondary is so bad it doesn't really take much. (Georgia State and Akron gave them problems at times.)

Do I think UT will win Saturday? Nope, probably not. What Bama has built is so damn impressive to me.

That said, our OL gives me quite a bit of hope for good things to happen. D would have to have the game of their lives, but...stranger things have happened.

I went to that Kansas game we were supposed to be mauled in....so I'll be there Saturday night too.

what is so frustrating is how close this team is - i get that at some point we have to pull these out - i thought he needed to win at least 1 against the big boys and not lose to anyone weak - so we still may see what he can do with seniors if he can get one against bama or sc

personally i think we can compete against both of these teams and will score on them - their ability to run is really concerning though - prob the 2 best running teams in the SEC and we are really struggling defending the run - it would be great to see what pulling one of these out could do for this team's confidence

Our OL is what makes me a little optimistic about next year.

So far the only thing that gives me hope going into this weekend and correct me if I'm wrong but we aren't getting gashed up the middle with our run defense, and that's where Bama likes to run. I think with team they have to learn how to win no one on our team knows how too it's like they expect to lose the close game because they have for the past five years.

South Carolina you never know what team is gonna show up the team that played Georgia or the team that shoulda lost to Vandy to start the year.

If I could make this my sig, I would. Nice job.

That is good news. This will be Marlin's time to shine, with Neal out and the talent drop-off behind him pretty steep. Sucks for him that he gets his time to shine against the best defense in the country.

Skeeter what is the overall mood of the team? We aren't about to witness a complete collapse from a demoralized team like we have in the past are we?

247 quoted a source from the AD that said the mood was, "night and day" when compared to right before the UF game.

Skeet, is this the same leg as his original ACL? If so, then maybe this will give him the confidence to fully trust that knee. Would love to see a fully confident Lane running the ball Saturday night behind this O line.

Alot of the guys are down as expected, they feel they gave away the uga game and the msu game. Mychal feels terrible about his boneheaded special teams play and Byron feels very bad about his dropped pick that hit him between the numbers. They have to make those plays, make those 2 plays and the game turns out different. We should only have 1 loss right now and they know it. They know the fans are pissed, but these guys are tough on themselves too. After the uga game, Bray was crying in the locker room and not because hes a baby. He does care about the team believe it or not.
