I thought Watson and Pig were impressive in limited action Saturday...although I was in the Stratosphere at Davis-Wade--I actually was squinting to see Watson's name on his jersey and said to my brother "Who the hell is Wilson?!?"

How many did we get though?

and how many are making a substantial impact.

Im not talking about 1 stars that walk on places like someone from maryville

We signed 7 guys from instate. Cam Clear ( would be starter starter), Tiny Richardson (starter), Tino Thomas (grayshirt), Kyler Kerbyson (backup guard), Mack Crowder(back up center), D Young(#2 runningback), Brendan Downs (backup tight end)

The potential 7-5 record doesn't bother me so much. It's the fact that Dooley has been outcoached in every game so far this season (except for NC State and maybe GSU) and has shown nothing to make me believe he is the long term answer here. He said himself that "You aren't going to have Tennessee to push around anymore." But yet we are looking at a possible 7-5 record with the best win being NC State, Mizzou, or Vandy. Maybe if given a 4th year he'll turn it around. I'm just not very optimistic.

You really think MSU "pushed us around"? We made the adjustments at halftime necessary to win the game..held their offense to one first down until midway through the 4th quarter.

Came out of halftime and put 10 straight points on the board with 2-3 chances of going down and taking the lead/tying the game. The players just didn't make plays to win it late.

Same for Georgia.

Tyler Bray donned a large brace on his left knee and was extremely limited to virtually a non-participant in Monday's practice.
Justin Worley took all snaps to speak of with first-team offense, according to several players.

Marlin Lane took the majority of first-team reps at tailback with Rajion Neal unable to go. Devrin Young was the primary option otherwise. Don't be surprised if this maybe means more Q Watson on special teams to help ensure Young remains fresh for offense.

CP talked about how coaches are trying more and more ways to get him involved, and he told me it's probably the first time since youth football that he's played running back but he loved the opportunity.

What's laughable to me is that everyone responds with "Spurrier was a proven winner." Okay, fine. If Spurrier was a proven winner and it took him 5 years to turn it around, why does Dooley only get 3? Dooley walked into a tougher situation, yet he's expected to have better results than Spurrier.

Good point. Dooley was hired with a with a 5 year contract that maintained a very high buyout for the full term because both sides understood that the program was in such dire shape that it would take at least that long to return Tennessee to the point that it was competing for championships.

Championship level programs usually have a couple of things in common -- their starting units have plenty of 4th and 5th year players with elite talent and the difference between the backup players and the starters is a lack of experience, not a lower level of talent. Auburn was an exception to this rule, making it a championship team rather than a championship program.

I note that because before the season began, Dooley made a major tactical mistake that now threatens to prematurely cost him his job. In a moment of temporary insanity, he proclaimed that this team was the first time that he felt we could stand toe to toe and be competitive with any team in the country and that for the first time since he arrived at UT he had good depth. By now, it has become crystal clear that he was mistaken in that assessment and the unforced error has already damaged him greatly -- and the damage may already be beyond repair.

The problem with Dooley's remarks are twofold. First, a coach should never proclaim his troops to be winners before the game has been played -- that is just asking for trouble. It is much wiser to wait and praise them after they actually win.

The second problem is that his prognostications were factually inaccurate. Had he limited his enthusiasm to the offense, he would have been ok, but the defense did not measure up. The defense has several positions which are short on both speed and talent, and the depth on defense is woefully inadequate. As if that were not enough, the entire defensive staff is new and they are installing a totally different scheme (the 3/4) that is notoriously difficult to master in the first year. Frankly the transition has not gone well.

When Dooley first uttered those words, they immediately launched the expectations of our victory starved fan base into orbit which guaranteed that the slightest stumble on the field would have negative repercussions wholly out of proportion with reality. Now that we have lost our first three SEC games, a significant portion of our fans are extremely frustrated and angry and all of those emotions are directed at Dooley because he was the one who got their hopes up. The damage to the bond between Coach Dooley and the fans may already be irreparable.

Hart now must make a decision. If he wants to change horses, he has to do it now so the new coach has time to assemble the best staff possible and also for him to hit the recruiting trail hard both to shore up the current recruits and then add as many new elite players possible. If he either cannot lock down a top tier candidate to replace Dooley or if he decides to keep Dooley because he has faith in him, he has to make that decision now -- he cannot wait. To keep Dooley he has to put a final end to "hot seat" question by announcing that Dooley is and will continue to be his man to coach the Vols. It has to be done emphatically so that the fan unrest and coaching rumor mill will be put to bed for good. Unless Hart does that, Dooley will not have any chance to survive and by the end of the season our recruiting class will be decimated and the program could very well take several steps (or more) backwards.

Unless Hart can nail down someone like Jon Gruden, I am in favor of keeping Dooley if the damage to him is not already too massive for him to survive. The decision is all up to Hart right now, and in my opinion he has to make it very soon.

Thats what im saying we are getting an impact from 2 of those players.

(not counting downs)

Look at SC's instates guys the last 2 classes they are getting impacts from.

im saying they are getting impacts from -+6 guys every year instate, not just bodies

Dooley on telling players to ignore negativity: "To tell an 18-year-old not to read that stuff ... I mean, I tell my 13-year-old, and he reads it, so he doesn't listen to me either."

This is one of the biggest things for me. Support our guys. If y'all want us to be worse, keep being negative.

None of those guys are just bodies. Young get touches every game and ran the ball well against MSU. No one has seen what Thomas can do. Crowder and Kerbyson came in before a very talented oline class. They will be the starters and both are solid olinemen. All those guys are SEC players.

They didn't push us around, but they outcoached us. Probably a bad quote to use by me. I liked the halftime adjustments. It's the first half that scares me. We can't make those mental mistakes and expect to win. The defense was better in the second half, but when it came to the end when it really mattered they made the same mistakes they've made all year. Allowing the insde pass to the slot recevier.

He said competitive, not we're taking everyone out behind the woodshed. I think we've been competitive, it sucks for us - and maybe him - that we are losing them.

Continuing to support mediocrity at Tenn isn't helping much either. IMO

Mississippi State will lose its last 5 games of the year. IMO. Or at least four of them. Ranking aside, that wasn't a very good football team.

none of the other ones are making impacts for us.

they may be decent players. im not saying that. but were not getting many, if any year in year out that are making impacts like every other top sec school

So....matching up against Bama...do we have an advantage anywhere? Maybe receivers vs DB's? What about our OL vs their DL? Thoughts?

Yes WR advantage,

and with our Oline playing so well. Bama doesnt have that top tier guy in the secondary this year that allows them to bring all these exotic blitzes and be able to hold up in coverages. like they have the past years under saban.

I think we can put up around 20 points.

If you can see the future, can you let me know if we sign Lawson, Green, and North in this class?

MSU beat us. MSU can easily upset someone.

Clear would have made an impact, Kerbyson and Crowder will be future starters and could start if an olinemen goes down. Downs will be a solid tight end.

Kerbyson was offered by UF, FSU, Arky, Stanford, USC, and UCLA

Crowder was offered by South Carolina and Vtech

Clear had a huge offer lists, he was a rivals 250 player.

So other coaches seem to think they are pretty good players too.

We drop 2 guys back on kickoffs (CP,DY)

Its pretty obvious CP needs to be getting the ball.

Is it a rule in college or by choice that you drop 2 guys back.

In the Nfl the formation is one guy back and 2 blockers in front.

Like with the bears Devin Hester is always the only one back. and is getting the ball no matter what.

is it by choice or by rule we do that

Nobody is is supporting "mediocrity" the worst record anyone is willing to accept this year is 7-5 with a bowl win followed by a much improved defense next year. 8-5 would be the best record that we have had since 2007, and would atleast show a move in a positive direction and that he deserves the chance to graduate one of his senior classes.

I agree we can put up points no one stops us from doing that but ourselves; however, I do think they have a top guy in the secondary Milliner is very underrated imo and I expect him to be matched up with CP all game long.
