Gruden, Pete Carroll, Cowher(unlikely), Bob Stoops, etc.
It won't be cheap and it isn't meant to be.
For the record, the only two HR hires for me are Gruden, Stoops, and Petrino. I understand why some do not want Petrino, but he has had no NCAA violations and is a top-5 college coach.
And then there's Derek Dooley, who coached Saturday from the booth. His case is curious. The win-loss total means a lot, obviously, but at least the 2012 Tennessee Volunteers are competing and fighting -- as opposed to how things went down the stretch last season.
Granted, a similar spiral could still happen. Missouri, Vanderbilt and Kentucky are the final three games. If the Volunteers go 3-0 in those, they'd likely finish 7-5 and Dooley could be safe pending the bowl result.
Lose one of those, though -- or to Troy -- and the seat will really sizzle. It already is likely to get hotter, because Alabama and South Carolina are the next two opponents for Tennessee. UT will probably be 3-5 and 0-5 in the league before it can begin to try to prop itself up.

Why do you use quitting against the team but you dont mention them not quitting against UGA and MSU?
Jim Chaney has too many "Guru" type moments.
Football is simple. run the ball, get the ball out the QBs hand and get it to your best players.
My Main issue with Coach Sal (besides lack of adjustment to alignment issues) is that he has forced the 3-4 on a team who's strengths play to a 4-3.
I know in the end, he wants to be a base 3-4 guy but you cant just plug 4-3 guys into that D and expect it to turn out okay.
I am also not a fan of not having a designated Free and Strong Safety.
those guys arent interchangeable and shouldnt be played that way.
just my :twocents:
Thanks, man.
What are your thoughts, specifically, on Dooley? It's been three years.
Personally, I see significant improvement. Neal and Lane went out the majority of the second half, which hurt last night. DY doesn't get stripped b/c he doesn't have the ball.
Randolph, arguably our best safety on the roster is hurt. Not having Maggitt is playing havoc on our pass rush, or lack thereof.
I want to win as much as the next fan, but can all the blame go to Dooley? I know it will, but is that a fair assessment?
Quitting isn't just on the team. It's the coaches fault just as much as the teams. A team that quits is a reflection of the coaching. It happened at least twice last year vs Arkansas & vs Kentucky. To see it happen again this year in game 3 is unacceptable. Especially after hearing all off season how this team is more mature, Dooley saying you're not gonna have UT to kick around anymore, & how they can play 4 quarters with anyone in the league.
Also, should I really have to point out that the team didn't actually quit vs uga & msu as a positive thing? Is that where we're at now to actually applaud the team for not quitting?
