I'm not upset with any of the ranked losses the first 2 years. Hell, I thought Dooley did a great job his first year here. It was this year's losses against UF and Miss State is what has me worried. IMO its silly to critque Dooley for any game before this year besides UK.

This. I've held off judgment of Dooley until this year. After watching us quit vs uf & not just losing to msu but the way we looked doing it doesn't give me much optimism. The uga game was very close to getting ugly as well. If not for a couple turnovers inside uga's 20yd line that turned into 14 points for us who knows how that one turns out. It sure doesn't look like it's gonna get any better the next two weeks either.

If we go 7-5, the only way I see us firing Dooley is if a true HR hire is available and has agreed to accept the job...Gruden is the only HR hire I can think of. If not, I think it's a bad move to have your 4th HC in 6 years, and a Kirby Smart-type hire could easily produce similar results. There's something to be said for stability and continuity in a program.

I understand your point, but if we go 7-5 and Dooley is retained, I'm going to be very frustrated.

Did you want Fulmer fired? If so, what year were you ready for him to be let go?

What did you think about the Kiffin hire? Were you disappointed to see him go?

What did you think of the Dooley hire? When were you ready to see him go?

I'll bite.

Fulmer: Was NOT on the fire fulmer bandwagon but I could understand it. I shrugged my shoulders when it happened

Kiffin: I was at my desk when I read it. I dropped my head to the desk. I gave him a shot and was pissed how he left. Wasn't mad that he left. If that makes any sense. I was cautious on the types of players he brought in and the type of attention he endorsed. I did, however, have confidence it would die down.

Dooley: Dropped my head on the desk again. Listened to him talk and say "Dust off your britches" and became a fan. If he was fired, I would shrug and understand it.

Next Guy: Better be a HR hire. I feel like this program can't afford another non-BCS project coach and needs to "Nick Saban" it's next hire. Tennessee fans claim they are tired of mediocrity. Prove it. Donate more money to avoid it. I know I will. The AD will have more money from me if the hire is a HR.

We cant afford to "convince" recruits to stay. It has to be OBVIOUS why they need to stay committed. JMO

I wanted Fulmer gone. I can't quite remember when I was ready but it was before the '08 season.

Loved the Kiffin hire and yes, I was.

I didn't know what to think. I wasn't optimistic, but I tried to be open minded. Over the course of the offseason.

This. I will add that the UGA game this year bothered me as well. I didn't expect to win, but the lack of defense in the first quarter was inexcusable IMO.

Why do you use quitting against the team but you dont mention them not quitting against UGA and MSU?

No.
Good hire. Yes.
Bad hire at the time. Still not sure.

My sentiments exactly. If you make a change, it had better be a homerun. Otherwise, might as well keep Dooley around.

Exactly what I was thinking. Defense was i think 3rd in the country in 08, it was just that our offense was so bad. Cutcliffe had an 1000 yard rusher out of Foster, Crompton would have become a solid UT qb, and our recruiting may not have taken such a drop that 08 year. UT never had a losing season with Cutcliffe as a coordinator.

Not directed at me, but I thought I'd answer anyway.

I was ready for Fulmer to go by the middle of the '08 season.

I liked the hire of Kiffin when it happened. I was mad about how he left, but ultimately I thought it was best for the program that he was not around long term.

I was kind of skeptical when I first heard that we'd hired Dooley, but after hearing him talk and learning more about him I was mostly in favor and supportive of him. The first 2 years (minus UK) I did not question him as a coach because of a lack of talent. The UK game last year was a big cause for concern and after watching the first 6 games this year, I'm very dissapointed in what I see.

I agree.

What is considered a "home run hire" though? Would it have to be Gruden?

UT- Bama at 18.5.

Interesting. Understandable. If I were a betting man (i'n not) and had the money to risk I think I would Take UT on that line. But also would not be surprised to see bama cover.
