disagree. I would have done the same if UT had offered me even if it was the week before signing day (heck even on signing day). Plus, as others have said, UTx is just a different animal in that state. They get who they want

Actually, they just started looking at him a few days ago. They ignored him up until less than 2 weeks before NSD. They apparently just offered him a scholly verbally on Saturday night...10 days before NSD. I really think that when all of the fuzzy, warm feelings go away (hopefully in a day or 2 and not after NSD), Dalton will come back to his senses and realize that he has a great program in TN, who has been after him for a long time. He will also remember that he is a run-stopping LB, who wants to play in the BEST conference in the nation. His stock for the NFL will shoot through the roof by playing in the SEC with Tennessee with Sal as his coach, where as he may get overlooked some playing in the pass happy Big 12 (or whatever number they are now). I respect the insiders on this board, especially Skeet, and his thoughts that Dalton will be a Horn, but I REALLY hope he is wrong on this one. I still think Dalton will be a Vol, and if his family will be unselfish and let him follow his heart, they will realize that his best opportunity to succeed is located in Knoxville, TN.

If he is smitten then let him go on to Texas. He's good but not a must. Otha is a MLB who's versatile enough to play OLB also. We have Harris who RS last season, and others who can cover down. Texas is late to the dance, but if he's unsure, cut him loose. We'll be fine with or without Santos. Guess what, this happens every year, so its no big deal to me. Part of the game. We steal some and lose some.

3-4 will be our base defense, just like Alabama. But they are in a 4-3 and 5 man fronts alot too.

"Multiple" has been the term Dooley is using. But we are going from a 4-3 to a 3-4 "base" defense.

I agree that we will still see 4 and 5 man fronts frequently, but history shows that it still takes at least half of a season to get the new scheme down in similar circumstances.

I also realize that things change with a new coordinator anyway. I think Dooley has too much riding on next season to make a drastic change. This is a great excuse to hit the spring game.

According to rivals UT will be talking to Chase Robison as well. In other words...we are doing the same thing to him that Texas is doing to Grownassmantos.

If, and this is starting to look like a big if, Santos turns down the horns and signs with the Vols, can you imagine the booms and gifs that will be unleashed upon this thread? Could be the type of thing you tell your grandchildren about someday.

Growing up in Texas, he has to be elated with an offer from the longhorns, who wouldn't? I do not blame him in the least for taking a visit - he should. This decision will dictate a great deal of his future. I believe he will announce that the T he will be wearing is for the VOLS

Kid's Gonna Be Great... Kid's Not Going Anywhere, VFL... Never That High on Him

The ability of 18 year olds to make grown men emotional based off where they want to play football and take English 101 is amazing.

With that said, this one will hurt a bit if if it comes to fruition. I always feel guilty getting invested in a teenager.

I think everybody wants the kid...but many realize that there are more important commits left to lock up.

I'm no scout, recruiter or coach, but after watching Santos in the all star game, I didn't think he would see the field with UT in 2012. He is a solid player with great intangibles. He would be an asset, but he does not carry the "must get" status some have given him.

Disappointing...yes. Back breaking...not close.

Disagree and it's not just about his intangibles. Anytime, you can swoop into a prime recruiting state, particularly one that UT has struggled in, and snag one of their better prospects is always going to be a nice coup, and a potential building block to an eventual pipeline.

Anybody have a clue what he will look like at DE? That's his future at Texas. Unless he loses 40 lbs chasing TE and WR all day long like he will in the Big 12. What happened to wanting to play in the SEC?

Sure, it'd be nice, but it isn't like it will make or break us in the end if we lose him. At all.
