I think they will take what they have and run what best fits the roster we have for now, and continue to recruit toward a 3-4. The heat is on to take some steps forward, whatever they run needs to be good pretty quick.

Im not a DC but it seems a little more complicated.

There's no such thing as waiting. You set your defense how you want to run it and expect your players to execute it.

It really isn't that much more difficult. We have LBs who can run it. J Smith will be a candidate to stand up also.

Don't want to lose Santos, but I agree with others that he won't make or break this class.

That said, these are the kind of battles we're going to have to start winning to be back on top again. We all know our situation with instate talent so we've got to get real good at raiding the best players out of the best states. I think we've done a fair job in that department, but it's battles like these that will get us back in the national picture.

Party on guys.

wait...is it not possible the kid is visiting Texas BECAUSE he's a fan? these kids aren't SO stupid that they don't know when they're the backup plan no matter who tries to "smooth it over". unfortunately, that is what he was to Texas, a backup plan. seriously, i'm a chick but if i played football and someone wanted to pay for my trip to go to the school i grew up a fan of HELL YES I WOULD GO!!!! i'm sure he's considering them but it may not be as serious as it seems. i could be crazy but it may be a little too late. he's stuck with up THIS far, right? besides....Texas's class is full except for one.

Not sure I agree with the first part.

You may be spot on with the second part.

good point! Dooley has shown me he can win one or two but THIS one would be awesome! not just cause it is Santos but because it is Texas.

Mack Brown is the second most over rated coach to win a NC in the last eleven years. Having a kid fawn over an in home with him makes me want to throw up.

Anyways, bet that guy with the Santos jersey is feeling pretty silly right about now...

What has he said to make you think that?

Rivals is saying that Santosnis visiting Texad this weekend. I hope he realizes that they're jut now offering him because they've missed out on someone else. It's crazy to think they're starting to recruit him with less than 10 days before NSD.

It's an anagram. I've never told anyone what it means. People assume it is my name.

I keep it on the d.l. :p

I just thought of the episode of Eastbound and Down where Kenny tells Stevie he solved his DaVinci code. So you are Illiminati?

Didn't say he would beat out AJ. Said he would be starting right beside him.

I don't think he'd start next year if he came in. Maybe some special teams. We have good linebackers coming in this year and hit two homeruns last year with Curt and AJ. I really want him want to see him back up his talk but in the end it is a linebacker. We will see how good Sunseri is pulling an in-state from Mack Brown and we will also see if Santos is true to his word.

Hard to understand all the posts in this thread denigrating and attacking Santos because he wants to visit his home state team who just gave him an offer. He and his whole family have always been Texas fans and he said earlier in the season that if Texas offered, he would commit on the spot. Unlike Tennessee most high school football players in Texas dream of nothing more than playing for Texas. It looks like we may lose him, but we have not lost him yet -- and we need to lay off the personal attacks whether we lose him or not. He is a 17 year old kid.

And the ones I especially love are the ones talking about how he needs to be a "man of his word" or "honor his commitment". Probably most of these are the same folks who rationalize and approve it when we recruit over a kid just because we find someone we like better, and who also call for us to drop Blanc so we can get a better player than him.

I don't think I was being harsh. I don't care a whole lot either way but in my opinion you don't go on television and commit to a school and back-track. He is a 17 year old kid and we will will be fine with or without him. I would like to have him here. I have never even posted regarding Blanc. Now I am just typing sentences so my retort looks nearly as long as your soapbox diatribe.

You realize they're probably saying that about us, too.

It was mentioned that his dad was a Wilcox/Sirmon guy and that plays a part in him not coming here. So the point is, as far as coaching changes go, Mack Brown could very well be short timing at Austin. imo

In the end none of that matters. He's a Texas boy who loves the horns.

He may be considering, but I doubt he is SERIOUSLY considering. You only go through the process once, might as well have some fun with it and use up all of your visits and see what else is out there. From what I can tell, the guy is pretty sharp and wants to gather as much information as possible to make an informed decision. Texas would have to make up a ton of ground over UT in this last week, as at this point it is 99.9% UT to 0.1% Texas and everyone else. He's been open and truthful about everything regarding his recruitment and where his position stands, so he's not trying to string anyone along. If he decides elsewhere is the best fit for him, then I wish him the best. I would still love to see him in Knoxville, though.

If this kid signs with texas, he will show that he's missing the PRIDE gene. Texas starts showing him love three weeks before signing day, and he's like a smitten schoolgirl? Please. I know it's the state school--but texas apparently has ignored the kid, did not offer him a scholly until, what, a week ago--and now he's all googly about the 'horns? I would not sign with any school that ignored me until three weeks before signing day, that's for damn sure.
