Arnett to transfer?

Did anyone read the letter he wrote about his situation? It's on govolsxtra.com right now. Apparently, he is calling Dooley a douche (at least that's what I got from it)

I would laugh my ass off he really called Dooley a douche.

He is just a litte girl not getting her ideal birthday party at the age of 16.

He can get a student loan for a year and go where he wants. How many here got to go to college for free? Acting like there is no way he can do this is a joke.

UT has had a policy in place that it will NEVER release a player to an institution that it recruits against, so therefore Michigan and MSU are OUT.
Sorry Arnett, policy is policy and there are no exceptions. Stop trying to say Dooley is hindering your success...you were probably told when you signed what the conditions were to transfer in case it ever came up.

“We’re not denying him a release to be near his family, get a good education and play Division I football at the same time, but we do have a policy of not releasing players to schools we either play or recruit against,” Stanton said Thursday. “Where he’s from, there are several good D-I schools nearby that would be good options to play football, get a good education and keep him near his family.”

Jimmy Stanton from the GVX piece...

If he is a good football player or gets a degree he can pay this off eventually. Geez I pay a few of these on my own, and I am not an NFL Star....yet! This is moot point. It's not like his family has to pay the college right now. If he gets a college degree and/or nfl contract, this would be a dumb arguement. He would get a scholly next year anyway. Geez.

Letter from DeAnthony Arnett

The Arnett family for years has been tight. I never knew the conditions for my Father would worsen like this. 2 heart attacks, dialysis, etc.. has made it so I cannot focus on anything but his health/well being. I never imagined being unable to have my dad at any games or me being able to see him as he endures his battle with health. Yes I want to play football but I NEED to be here for my dad and with my family. I am also still pursuing my goal of being the best student-athlete I can be

My mom is in a finacial bond my father was forced to retire from his job at General Motors because of a Lung Diseas on Disability, so I started recieving social security checks for a monthly payment of 1100 a month. I was 14 years old when most of this occured so I was un able to recieve my own check until I turned 18 years old so she always controlled my money and she used that as part of her income. When I turned 18 years old the checks came in my name but my mom and I always shared the funds with her. When June came upon my graduation I recieved a letter from the social security adminstration that my checks would be cut when I graduated so a 1100$ of income was taken from my mother household. She only attended one game this past season.

As this season went on I never was use to my parents not being at my games so it made the season a little harder for me but I still competed hard in my classes as my transcript grades from last semester were three B's and C and I appeared in all 12 games as a true freshman this season working hard every weak to earn my playing time.

Coach Dooley, myself or anybody doesnt know what the future holds for my Father and I feel that I represented the University of Tennessee the best way I can on and Off the field and I feel I have earned the right to be released unconditional to all schools in Michigan. Especially with The University of Tennessee not scheduling any Program

From the state of Michigan on their current or future schedules. Coach Dooley has singled two programs that I cant get a unconditional release to and thats University of Michigan and Michigan State University. He told me I can attend any Mac school that I want and If I wanted to attend The University of Michigan and Michigan State University then I would have to pay for school instead of be on the Scholorship. I dont know whats next my family cant afford to pay for school and my father health reason isnt good enough excuse for me to attend a BCS school close to home. (According to coach dooley). Therefore as a student athlete i feel coach dooley is trying to hinder my success by not allowing me to compete at a bcs level! And he's neglecting the fact that my father is severely ill.

Is it not Arnett's primary objective to be near his father? Derek Dooley has met that request, thus there is no publuc relations storm to ride out. In fact, it is well known that Arnett signed with Tennessee knowing that his father was very ill. It is well known that Arnett was raised by his brother and not his father. Still Derek Dooley has granted Arnett the ability to attend scool and pkay football close to his father. Why would he or anyone else complain about that?

Couple of questions ... will he have to come back and finish the year at Tennessee if he doesn't want to sit for 2 years? That is if he pays his own way to Michigan or MSU. Or can he enroll at MSU or Michigan and finish out the year? Also , he will have to sit out a year for sure if he doesn't go by his release from Tennessee , right? Same deal as Bryce Brown iirc.

I am getting sick and tired of reading all the negative press. Dooley/Hart need to do the right thing and let this kid move back home to be with his family and still play football at a high level. Doing anything else would be another black eye for our university.

If he is so damn scrapped for cash he sure as hell had better finish the semester.

Because the issue is clearly two-fold. He wants to be near his father AND play for a BCS school. Most releases are conditional, otherwise players would do this all the time.

Dooley is letting him go, but he isn't letting him go to a school we compete against. I am starting to change my own tune after reading that stupid letter.

There is a long-standing policy in place that UT applied to much bigger recruits than this kid.
We're letting him go to a D1 school close to home but we MUST apply the policy...if I get cancer, does that mean I don't get to pay my taxes because of that? The IRS may give me an extension to file it, but at the end of the day, I'll owe it no matter what.
Rules are rules.
Besides, I'm sure that when they sign their LOI they are told the conditions to leave if they so choose.

Me too. There are right and wrong ways to handle all situations. This is the latter.

Well, it is a father that was sick before he left, and others have pointed out that he (may not) have been very close to him to begin with. CMU isn't too far of a stretch for him to be near his father. I went away to college too, and I was 2 hours away when my grandmother was on her death bed. I still made it back in time. I went and visited on weekends. If he is as good as billed he would be a stud no matter where he goes, and he will still be near his father. I hate to break it to people but people can and will die pretty quick.
