Arnett to transfer?

I don't get this. There are rules. UT has a policy. We have enforced it before and we are enforcing it again-- just like other schools do and have done for decades.

The PR nightmare is going to come into play if we let a teenager dictate policy through media blackmail. If UT's policy isn't the right one, then the people in charge of it need to take another look at it for the future. But, for now, we are enforcing the policy we have. No further comment. Story over.
Policy is gray. We won't release him to schools we play or recruit against. We recruit against everyone right?

Could send him to gulf state CC, in mississippi. Maybe they will talk some of thos Jucos to come up here for a trade.

There will be a news frenzy no matter what UT does, policy or not. People make money off of selling papers and adv. for their shows. They will put a spin on it no matter how true it is.

The media probably has 2 different stories ready no matter how this turns out. Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

You really think it is worse from a PR standpoint to let him go than to not let him go?

I think you have a policy and you stick to it. If it's wrong, you change it.

I work in the media, and I deal with this every day. At this point, it is purely a matter of policy. You comment and you move on. It will die down as soon as we stop fanning it.

Yep especially considering Arnett will be the one who looks bad when he 1. Hasn't even lived with his dad for awhile 2. His dad was not involved his recruitment and 3. His dad was sick when he came here.

Yeah, because that is the side that will get reported

Well, then, we have a policy issue. We address it, we fix it and next time, we're better prepared to diffuse it. But for now, we've made a decision in keeping with our current policy, we've commented on it, we wish the player and his family well and we are returning to the business of running this university.

They will probably show footage of a dark dungeon with water drips in the background and show rats eating on the remains of a human being. Then a reporter will step on screen and say, "We aren't saying UT is Forcing DA to stay on campus and live in this dungeon, but we aren't saying UT isn't forcing DA to live in this dungeon either". Cuts to a picture of child labor in asia, with a cut out picture of DA pasted on a child laborer.

How did Tyler Smith get to UT? Didn't he get an unconditional release to UT from Iowa due to his fathers illness?

Tyler was close to his dad starting his junior or senior year in HS after a strained relationship. Arnett is leaving because of CCB as his dad was sick when he came here, and he didn't even live with him or have him involved in the most important decision of his life at that point.

Not sure about this, but isn't this "policy" on a case by case basis.

Regardless if he was close or not, it is his father.

Derek Dooley has done the right thing in addressing this issue. DeAnthony Arnett will be given his release with conditions. Dooley addresses what should be Arnett's primary concern and allows Anthiny to be near his father. That is more than fair. In this Dooley has followed the UT policy on transfers. Vearing from the policy would open up Pandora's Box.

so basically if father and son make amends before enrolling at UT then it's ok. But if they do so after enrollment then it's not?

Pretty much Dooley and Hart are saying, you can transfer if it is truly about your dad.

I think you are pretty spot on.

Iowa has their policy. This is the University of Tennessee and this is our policy.
i'm still looking for our policy other than the one quoted earlier that said we don't release players to schools we compete or recruit against.

Do you know that they have? All we know is 1. Arnett loved Baggett 2. Arnett's dad was sick when he came here 3. Arnett and his dad didn't have much of a relationship 4. Arnett's close friends have been going to MSU.

Hmmm, wonder why he really wants to transfer?
