'12 VA DT Korren Kirven (Bama signee)

weren't we saying the same thing about pig howard. how he was more than likely headed to UCF, Jay was confident it was Vol, but many were skeptical of the distance. Same case here. watch out for UT.

Same case except no one with any connections to that area seems confident it will be UT.

Korren broke his ankle in the playoffs and will require surgery. He will have to redshirt where ever he goes. I agree it is a UT/VT battle with VT having the high ground.

Why would he have to redshirt next year? It's not like he tore an ACL or MCL. A broken bone at the most shouldn't take more than 6 to 8 months to heal and that's probably being generous. No reason he shouldn't be ready by the start of fall practice.

I thought it was broke in two places and I think the surgery is after the Holidays.

Sirmon has done a masterful job with him. If not for Sirmon, Kirven may have already announced for VT. This injury however plays into VT hands. He could be limited in his OV's or not take any at all which bodes well for Beamer. If he makes it on an OV to Knoxville in a cast, after surgery, etc - this is good for the Vols IMO.

Most likely because hes going to be horribly out of shape 8 months from now not being able to work out or go through any conditioning. Red shirt would be his best option if true.

Remember, all Lathers had was foot surgery as well and he was out the entire year.

Yes, but Lathers' break wasn't the "norm", either.

I think I heard somewhere that his bone actually twisted when it broke, which made the rehab process much longer.

It's already really tough for a true freshman DT to come in and contribute in the SEC. Add in showing up after not being able to do any lower body work for months, and it's hard for me to picture him getting up to speed any time soon.

Sorry to hear about KK' s injury. Hope he has a speedy and successful recovery

That is funny.

All the internet docs above, not so much.

Lathers had a trimalleolar fracture/dislocation most likely...therefore prolonged recovery.

Kirven most likely had a bimalleolar fracture...better, but longer recovery in someone that weighs @ 300 lbs. May not need to redshirt him. Too early to tell.

He is still a great DT and UT coaches know it. Hope he picks UT!!

Okay, so here's my Junior Sports Science Badge knowledge talkin': he needs about 6-8 weeks of practice to get in what I would feel comfortable as "football shape". Especially with somebody inside the box like that, and a Freshman. Seeing as he's coming off that injury during the season (2011), he'll be ready to go at full strength when?

He will need more than 6 to 8 weeks of practice time. He needs to be involved in an intense strength & conditioning program that includes upper and lower body work. He cant do that now. Not impossible but unlikely that he could be ready in September

I heard Hubbs on the radio today saying KK will be here on an official visit in Jan. and this will be his third trip to the campus. He said he likes where UT is with him, but VT is still slightly ahead.

If we can get them onsite then we always have a chance to win them over.

He will be a freshman so I wouldn't count on him this year anyway, at least in the first half of the season. Could redshirt and be solid for 4 years.

Not jmoore...but Kirven's HS is pretty much a pipeline to VT...and Kirven has been there multiple times...

And as TW has said there is a good chance Bama won't have a spot for Kirven

I still think we could have a punchers chance in this one

I was noticing on rivals that Virginia Tech has 27 commitments which is 2 over the limit. So they will have to tell others to look elsewhere. I believe this helps with Kirven b/c that would mean they would have to get rid of 3 current commitments if he wanted to go there and maybe just maybe this helps TN..... By the way just a thought. I'm sure if he wants to go there they will have no problem telling some of the recruits to look elsewhere but just thinking positive.:)

VT is not in the SEC so what 25 limit are you referring to?? Also, do you know where they stand on back counting (or whatever the new rule is called that replaces the old back count rule)??

The SEC has a 25 limit rule, not the ACC.

Can you remind me the reasoning in the SEC making a 25 limit? I know Ole Miss was a factor when they had over 30 commits but what was the overall thinking?

I bet a couple yrs ago when miles booted that kid in late summer/early fall that that probably didn't do much to help the oversigning cause
