Wow. I go out of town for a few days and all manner of hell breaks loose. Nontheless, unable to resist:
(1) Buzz Peterson is a perfectly fine mid-major coach. In a year or two, he may get Coastal to the Dance, and maybe they'll pull off one of those #14-#3 upsets, and he'll suddenly be a hot commodity and somebody will give him another shot at the "Big Time." Somebody like, oh, I don't know, Michigan. But the fact is, Buzz was prepared to bring in Don DeVoe and Eddie Fogler as assistants, had he been granted one more year, and their job would be to "coach the coach." Basically, that's flat-out admitting that he was in way over his head all along at the helm of an SEC program.
(2) Calipari won't ever coach at UK. He doesn't fit the profile. The UK boosters would rather have homegrown talent - Billy Donovan will be at the top of the wish list, as Hat said, and they'll offer him the moon and stars to jump ship. And he just might take it, especially if this is Tubby's last year - Billy's looking at a pretty bare cupboard next year. If not, they'll bring in Travis Ford and John Pelphrey for interviews and ultimately hire the one that comes across more impressive. There is a LOT of anti-Tubby sentiment in Lexington right now, and deservedly so - his current junior class was supposed to be the best in the country, and they haven't amounted to anything.
(3) UT has to win 1 of the last 3 SEC games to actually punch their ticket. The resume is not finished yet. A win over Florida would obviously offset 2 more road losses. On the other hand, beating either Arkansas or Georgia on the road would get them to 20 wins, 8-8 in the SEC, and a Top 20 RPI. Even if they get drilled at home by Florida, that's good enough to get in.
