Actually Hillard goes from FB to RB, when Ware was suspended he was promoted to the #2 back ahead of Blue.
For instance Hillard has 5 TDs but only 1 came in garbage time, LSU likes to play 3-5 backs. In 2008-2009 this was not an option due to injuries and lack of players. Ford has actually been the 4th option at times this year. No, not all of them are going to get 20 carries a game, as LSU doesn't like any of their backs to get 20 if possible.
I have watched the games, you do not. Magee is starting to get reps as well but as of now most of those are in garbage time, but not all of them. LSU will play 3-5 backs, unless they don't have 3-5 horses in the stables.
Gore is small and is more a 3rd down back but I have heard good things about him. Gore is actually listed as WR on the roster.
LSU has shown if you can play you will get on the field as they are playing on any given week 70-80 guys. It is not surprising to see 3rd and 4th string guys in on D and I am not talking about garbage time.
RB
Ware #1 back
Ford #2 (most of the time)
Blue #3
Hillard #4 (but played the #2 back against Auburn and when they want to run the FB he plays FB)
Magee #5 (mostly cleanup, could be the #1 back down the line)
Gore #6 (too small to be an every down back, will get more reps down the line and I believe LSU will be using him more like they do Shepard at WR)
FB
Stampley #1 FB (walkon)
Copeland #2
Hillard #3 (but is #1 for running the FB)
LSU plays a ton of guys, out of all the scholarship RB/FBs I believe Gore is the only one not to get significant playing time as he only has like 8 carries and he is a Freshman, of course he is the #6 RB and probably the #6 WR. LSU will need 1-2 Rbs for the 2012 class.
In all fairness, Bourque is probably a redshirt candidate, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but LSU will take Hill if he is willing to come. By the time Bourque is ready to play, Blue/Ware/Ford will be Seniors and Hillard/Magee will be juniors.
Their 4th and 5th running backs, Hilliard and Magee, have 30 and 27 attempts all year, respectively. If you call that playing I suppose the punter's one TD run that got called back qualifies him as the 6th running back.
If we do get Porter could he help here?
Nobody usually knows that till it happens.
Is he faster and less stiff than Cross? I heven't watched film of him yet. But if he isn't a much better RB than Cross, why would they take Bourque?

I think Tennessee is the nice intermediate. Not sharing carries with 3 other backs and not being asked to carry it 40 times a game.
Yeah, you need at least 3 guys minimum. IMHO
The problem is, these kids think you need to carry the ball 300+ times a year for a couple of years to go to the NFL. When in reality you just need to show your stuff when given the opportunity. Matter of fact 300+ carries is just a recipe not to make to the NFL as they will have to give you disability.
Richard Murphy is on the Jags roster and the most carries he had in any year was 44. Lattimore has had carries of 40, 37 and 37 in single games... good chance Murphy is on a NFL roster longer than Lattimore if Spurrier keeps doing this.
Yeah, I think is this day and age, if you have talent, the NFL will find you.
Getting better in that regard. You see more and more guys signing after the draft sticking with teams.
As far as I can see you need at least 3-4 RBs in the SEC ready to go if not 4-6 if you start getting injuries.
In 2009, we were down to Ridley and Ford for RBs and Ford had already not played and they were trying to keep his RS. Ridley was basically the only RB for like the last 3 games... they had Holiday but he was the scat back. We were down to walk-ons after that.
Lost Charles Scott, Keland Williams and Richard Murphy within like 3 games.
The way LSU runs the ball you really need 5 guys other teams can probably get away with 3.
LSU will probably take Hill if he wants to commit, if Bourque is upset than he is just going to have to go some place else. If he performs LSu will play him, as we are playing plenty of Freshman right now. He would probably be a RS candidate at LSU.
2013 RBs at LSU:
Ware (Sr.)
Blue (Sr.)
Ford (Sr.)
Hillard (Jr.)
Magee (Jr.)
Hill (So.) - no RS
Bourque (RSFr.)
As far as I know Hill will enroll in January.
