Bray and thumb

hopefully we can get up big and be able to run the ball. i hope we dont have to rely on him throwing it 40+ times - not with recovering broken thumb, i dont care who you are, your gonna loose some zip and accuracy this soon after the injury.
Edit: will, not wil
He wil tight some zip IMO.

people on the football forum dont care, they just want to spew garbage about dooley and things they know little about.

I will argue this two different ways....

1. I think some people make UT Football more important in their lives, than other things that should be. Sure, it's their lives, and they can live it as they wish, but win or lose I have too many other things that have much more importance in life.

2. The other people who are realists, and understand where we are, all they are looking for is somewhat of an improvement from beginning to end. Sure, we have had injuries, but most everyone else has been playing, so where is the improvement? Case in point, the offensive line. I don't think any of those guys have had major injury, yet we still can't run the ball, and pass protection hasn't really gotten any better either.

There are plenty of people who talk without a purpose, and I think those are the people you are referring to. I understand where we are, but almost 2 years into it, I'm still left wondering what direction we are heading in. I'm still a Dooley guy, just much more reserved at this point.

4 sophs will not push around a dline in this league, its simple really. next year will be when the oline shines. last year we had a few veterans along the line that helped out alot. plus we had stocker and sr wr's, believe it or not that helps the run game out a little too.

The biggest thing isn't the o-lines age, it's their age compared to the defenses they're going up against. Our o-line full of 19 year olds who have less than two years in a college S&C program would have to be physical freaks to push around 21-22 year olds who have had 3-4 years of college S&C.

in most cases a def line full of sophs will win the battle against an oline full of sophs, just the way it is. if they're close to same talent level anyway.
last years line wasnt as talented as this years line imo, but they were smarter and stronger. i think next year we'll be fine along the line, my main concern is the def line for next year.

.

How much better than 3rd in the conference do you think they should be considering they are behind LSU and Bama? Neither team throws close to as many times per game as UT does.

Considering that UT was dead last in the SEC in '10... I'd say that's an improvement.

Still, year 2 in the offense, and understanding the scheme and personnel, we should see some form of a running game. We couldn't even run it against MTSU, and there's nothing that you could say to convince me that we shouldn't have had almost 250 yards against those guys. We averaged 2.7 yards against a Sunbelt D-line. That's unacceptable to me, no matter what they were trying to figure out. That's one game they had no excuses in.

There's a reason we throw a lot, it's because we are playing from behind. Stats may not lie, but unless you look at the progression of the game, you won't understand them.

You somehow think that helps the case you are trying to make? UT has thrown the ball more this year. They have done so early and done so late. They can't run the ball this year so the D's KNOW they are going to throw it. At least Poole had a decent year last year to take off some of the pressure.

The pass blocking has improved considerably. The run blocking has fallen off. Anytime you are building a group of people from scratch to perform complex tasks... the improvement is not going to be an even, straight curve.

we face alot of 7-8 man boxes now, thats what killed cincy, we had the horses to make them pay. if you noticed in the uf game, they dropped 7 back in coverage, soon as hunter went out it was 7-8 in the box. could tell they watched the cincy film and decided to try and stop the pass, hunter went down and they changed it up.
our 4 sophs also have a hard time picking up the blitzes on a run play. they will not get pushed around next year nearly as bad. the third year in the s&c program is the magic year for olinemen. go look at the oline depth chart on the top teams in the country, you'll see one common denominator.

Aren't we looking at bringing in 3 JuCos on the D-line? That should help cover the loss of Malik, right?

These guys are about 22 games into their college careers. They're not really sophomores anymore. They also don't have to be physical beasts to run block. I watched Vandy push around Georgia and Arkansas for the pretty much the whole game. That argument is old and flawed. I'm not impressed with anything i see out of our run game and i'm not sure a little more time in the weight room is going to fix it. Montana stuffed it , MTSU stuffed it at times. I just don't see a real commitment to it therefor it suffers. Chaney will also call some passes at odd times. Something in the alignments tip off when they're running also. Far too many times i've saw the linebackers cheat up to the line and they almost always run on those plays. It's not all to do with the fact they're weak and just need a little more time in the weight room. Sorry that don't fly.

we need dts badly. we need to get miller back out on the edge. we just need quality depth across the line so we can sub guys out. everytime we make subs now the other team licks its chops and runs it all over us.

Yeah, definitely understandable. But isn't it looking like we might grab a pair from JuCo? That should immediately buffer the depth, right?

come back this time next year and see what im talking about. and to make a point again. vandy has 2 jrs and a sr that starts along the line with another sr that gets alot of playing time to go along with a sr te. also they have a running qb.

It's mostly about technique and being disciplined. Our line just doesn't hold their blocks long enough, and some of these guys have been on campus for 2 years. Plus, we heard all this improvement in lifting numbers from last year to this year, yet it doesn't seem to matter. The strength isn't the problem necessarily, it's more the technique, discipline, and offensive philosophy getting in the way.

Ummm, I watched the video of him throwing on VolQuest. He threw about 15 deep balls and completed about 3 against no defenders. He underthrew one by about 10 yards. He was 1 of 3 on 5 yard slants against air.

To say he was very accurate is at best completely inaccurate.

Yea I agree, I would rather take the word of someone watching a video, than someone who was there. the Video you watched was how the players warm up before every game. that's kind of like saying that Bray sucked the buffalo game cause the was off in pregame warm ups.

Well they better get it fixed. The'yre not winning many games without one. Vandy inserted Rodgers in the Georgia game after they had piled up most of those yards. I know what a running QB can do for a offense though, i played ball, so i get your point.

This, I say we just put the ball in Pool's hands to let him go out and win or loose the game. Umm, wait, lets let Bray throw it until his thumb falls off.

That's probably the only way they win unless the Oline's ball sacks drop before the game, since it's all about them becoming men.
