Outback has to be the best chain for steaks.

I'd say the Kobe beef at St. John's (Chattanooga), Fleming's, The Palm, Midtown Cafe, Back Inn Cafe (Chattanooga) are a few off the top of my head.

I've been to Chicago, Miami, and New York, but I don't remember eating a steak.

I'm sure the towns in Texas have some good beef, too.

there are some great places for steak in chicago...and lamb chops.

i know it's a tourist trap, but i've both at Ditka's and it's actually pretty good....and i can't remember the name of the place, but we went to one place and the lamb chops were out of this world.

agree about outback for chain rest.

we have a place in Charlotte called McNtosh's that's really good too....

Denver Chop House is excellent as well....

Bones in Atlanta is consitently good

The best steak I ever had was at a place called Depalma's in Rome, GA the place wasn't much to look at but the steak was awesome

For chains, I like the steaks at Longhorn better than Outback. Outback has better appetizers, though.

As for the upscale chains, I really like the Palm, although there isn't a lot of difference in it and Flemmings, Ruth's Cris, and Morton's.

For stand alone spots, Bone's (already mentioned) is very good, as is Prime 112 in Miami. The Stockyard in Nashville is good, but I always seem to end up at the Palm instead. The best steak I have ever had was at Cattleman's in Ft. Worth, but I have heard that the restaurant is not what it used to be.

Good steak marinade that I've been tinkering with for a nice smokey flavor with just a pinch of heat:

a few tsp olive oil
one bottle Tobasco chipotle flavored sauce (smokey flavor, not much heat)
7-8 chopped garlic cloves
hot sauce to taste

let it marinate in your fridge overnight, take the steaks out a good hour before your grill so they can get closer to room temp. I've tried a couple of different sauces and increased the marinating time up to three days with varying results.

Isn't that warren buffet's favorite steakhouse?

That is what I have heard. I have a friend who claims that Bill and Warren were once seen sitting on the curb outside waiting for AAA to come pick Warren's car up.

Looks like a place that the Sopranos would hang out in, but the steak is unbelievable.

That is ok if you are freaking Bobby Flay. I prefer to let the fat flavor my steak.

Of course it depends on price and where you are. Ruths Chris is one of the best but too rich for my blood. LOL
Up here my husband likes Texas Roadhouse or Calhouns. He gets the "steak Calhoun" and almost licks the plate everytime! LOL

I like Bone's Sucking Sauce for marinade.
When I was a little younger, and my blood pressure was a little lower I liked straight Dale's marinade. For a filet or choice strip I agree with you on no marinade CC. Lately though, I've been getting the grass fed strips and ribeyes for about $6 bucks per pound at the Wild Oats. It's good lean meat, maybe so lean that it needs that marniade.
