Scout CFN prediction- closer than we think?

these websites and "experts" are too crazy about potential upsets that they predict scores that are close so they can use the "i told you so" card when an upset actually happens. I dont know how someone could predict us even being in a close game with LSU, UF, UGA when we barely beat Montana according to some.

Once in a blue moon an Appy State beats a name team and this is what happens. It'll be ok Sat night. "Normalcy" will set in...

It can happen, as we've seen before. Does it mean it's likely to happen? No. How often are predictions spot-on?

given the issues we face and the status of the program right now, the projection isn't unreasonable. Like everyone I'm hoping and expecting a sort of semi-blowout but know enough to give the Grizzlies a hefty margin of respect. if this game was happening on 2012, I'd pity them but not now, I'm leery.

I'm sorry, but this is not going to happen - "The Grizz defense should be aggressive enough and active enough to force the Vols to be one dimensional." - and if it does happen we're in BIG TIME trouble.

We are a young team and will be feeling ourselves out most of the first half.

I expect a close game about 10 points at halftime, and us to blow it open late in the 3rd QTR early 4th Qtr and to win by 17-20. This won't be because we are a bad team, just because we will be learning on the fly these first few games...just have to find ways to win and get better right now.

This won't be UT Martin last year I promise you that.

2011 Predictions & Game Story

Week 1 - Montana at Tennessee

- SEC Fearless Predictions & Conference Page

Why Montana Might Win: The Montana defense should be terrific. While the run defense was mediocre last year, the secondary was among the best in the FCS – ranking third in the nation in pass defense and seventh in pass efficiency D – and while a few key parts have to be replaced, Trumaine Johnson is among the best corners Tennessee will face all year. The Vols’ biggest concern will be running the ball against a deep and talented linebacking corps with Jordan Tripp, Caleb McSurdy, and Alex Shaw back and certain to combine forces for 300 tackles. The Tennessee ground game was last in the SEC last season and 105th in the nation averaging just 109 yards per game, while the pass protection was miserable. The Grizz defense should be aggressive enough and active enough to force the Vols to be one dimensional.

What Will Happen: Watch out. Tennessee is patching things together on the defensive front seven, and it’s hoping for night-and-day improvement from the offensive line. Montana has a dangerous pass rush that should bother Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray all game long, and it has enough talent at receiver and tight end to make the passing game go. The Vols will come up with the win by barreling away with the running game and getting a few home runs out of Bray and the passing attack, but this will be a fight with the Grizzlies having their chances to take control.

Because we aren't in the top 25, most of these writers won't spend more than a few minutes figuring out who we are. In fact they probably spent more time looking at Montana and just scanned our 2-deep, saw all the underclassmen and took it from there. No one knows who we are or what we can do yet, but after week 3 UT's resurgence will be all over the news.

Bray will be throwing overtop to Hunter and Rogers, and over the middle to a host of receivers. Meanwhile Poole and Lane will be having fun in the running lanes created by our very productive O-line this season. Our defense will be too strong for them to have any sustained drives.

Apples and Oranges. Oranges win. This game will be over before halftime.

While I think that we will win by 3 or 4 touchdowns, the thing that worries me is how our young team will respond if something bad goes wrong. A fumble or pick that goes for a touchdown could really rattle these young guys.

I know it is a long shot, but I also remember The Memphis game in 97. That UT team was one of the best ever and that Memphis team was not as good as this Montana team. Of course they only won because of a blown call, but it never should have been that close to begin with.

I am somewhat surprised by so many people thinking this is going to be an easy victory. We have no way of knowing how good we are yet. We should be a lot better than them, but I am not taking any game for granted after the Ohio game last year.

One must remember that Appy State had a very good football team that year and Michigan was on the down slide. While Montana may have a pretty good team, Tennessee will be better than Michigan was that year, Tennessee is on the up slide and will win by at least 21.

I really hope the team doesn't over look Montana like our fans are.

I seriously doubt they will overlook a season opener. They have been looking forward to it all offseason. Who cares if the fans think it's a win. They are supposed to.
