The Weightlifters Thread

There are two things that aggravate me: No matter what I do my chest does not grow that much and I can't get that "peak" on my biceps. I know it's genetics but I was even up to doing reps with 100 lb DB's on each side and I gained a little but not what you would think.

I've dropped down to using 80 lb DB's (because I was starting feel like my shoulders were wearing out) at the most and haven't seen any change really in chest size.

I have pretty big arms and triceps but my biceps are more flat I guess you could say... oh well.
I have the same problem with my chest.

I can't do squats without the Manta Ray. I've never heard of anyone not liking it though, except the high school kids with major insecurities. I do find that its more comfortable if you walk into it rather than step under it.

Really? Only people I ever see use it are HS kids and people who are brand new to the gym.

You guys use the smith machine for squats?

Never used a Smith Machine for anything...

Only thing I do different on squats from time to time (aside from stance) is sit-downs. I get a better straight quad workout, but they are already gigantic, so I don't do it that often.

I would suggest going with less weight and doing very slow deliberate reps.

If I go with dumb bell press I avoid employing shoulders by elevating the outside of the dumbbells (the opposite approach works when I am doing shoulders and avoiding use of chest muscles).

Make sure you always change up routine so your muscles don't get complacent. Shocking the muscle should stimulate growth.

And whenever I feel like I need new idea, or if I'm lacking motivation I watch this kind of stuff:

At some point, it's genetics. If you're getting plenty of protein in your diet and doing what you can to up weight and still not gaining, maybe you're just not meant to. It happens.

I normally do squats with exercise ball against the wall while holding dumbells.... It is panzy like but I'm not worried about how much weight I rep and the ball helps keep strict form because I have had problems with it wearing on my knees and lower back when I used to much weight

You were having shoulder issues right?

Yup. Got any tips? It was quite embarrassing attempting a push-up in the middle of the gym and failing quite hard. I've never really been able to do a push-up properly to begin with.

Also, best exercises to cut stomach fat?

Probably got to work up your shoulder muscles before even trying a push up. Was it a rotator cuff problem?

Cardio and diet.

As far as push ups go. Try an inclined push up and work your way from there. Once you feel comfortable with those, try the regular ones again.

I'm glad I have keys to my own gym and basketball court. This allows me to only invite friends instead of the dealing with everyone, I can go whenever I want, and it's free.

lol looks like there is going to be a new workout craze for women, Turbo Fire.

This infomercial is lulztastic.

I can do those push-ups all day long. I need to find a good diet. Right now I'm trying to eat fish mostly. The problem is that I'm a terrible cook.

Ditto. It's either genetics or diet. Working out your abs puts muscle on them, but that does you no good if your muscles are covered by fat.

I've read that men have hormones that "protect" the abdomen by disproportionately storing fat there. When you burn fat it burns everywhere else first and stomach last, even if you are doing stomach exercises.
