At least publicly, Jones has said that he wishes he could start his career over with this team now. How did Taylor know that Jones wouldn't tell Wright something like, "Yeah, my career hasn't exactly gone the way I expected, but I can't say enough about the team Dooley is building here and the way he's changing the culture. Man, I envy you; I wish I could push the reset button and commit here tomorrow myself." Etc. Something like that would match up with what he said to the media, yet apparently Taylor wasn't worried that he'd say anything like that in private. Why not? At the very least Taylor must have been in recent and close enough contact with Jones to know that he wasn't going to say anything to help Tennessee.
I don't expect Jones to lie and spew out a bunch of fake rah-rah Tennessee stuff if that's not the way he feels; given the way his career here turned out, who could blame him? But I do expect him not to talk to a recruit when he realizes that a coach at the other school put him up to the phone call. When Wright said, "Hi, I'm Gabe Wright, I'm considering Tennessee and Auburn and Trooper Taylor said I should give you a call," Jones should have ejected from the conversation.
