I think that list is a pretty good list. Off in some areas and spot on in others.
Dooley is probably right where he should be. 6-7. That is not good. However, he did some good things. Had a good plan for the most part and is recruiting for need.
If his teams don't get better by a large margin when all those freshman he played are juniors then that is unacceptable.
Kiffin is a good coach. If UT fans weren't so jilted they could probably see that. If he was still wearing Orange you would think he was as God. I just don't get the rationale sometimes.
I will repeat - Kiffin is a good coach. He has a lot more to work with that almost any other coach on that list. He also has an uphill battle with the NCAA and recruiting in the future.
What Kiffin and Dooley did this year are not comparable. The two programs will probably never be comparable as Apples to Apples. But that won't stop the comparisons to happen. UT has a long way to go to catch up to USC in terms of depth and talent at all positions.
With that said, the expectations for each are different as well. If Kiffin would have gone 6-7 this season I would have loved to see the reaction from USC. If Dooley would have gone 8-5 what would that have looked like???
The fact is that at USC an 8-5 season is on par with a 6-7 season at UT. Both, in the scheme of things, are unacceptable. Both need to show improvement. Next year both schools should be targeting 10 win seasons - UT probably falls short and ends up with 8 or 9. USC probably can get to 10, maybe 9. Both would be considered good seasons and a step in the right direction.
Dooley is a good coach. He is taking the program and putting it back together. He is doing a good job. He is recruiting for need. He is smart. He has great assistants.
UT will be back. They will again, win 10 games consistently. They will win the SEC. They will be back in the national spotlight and compete for NC's.
Tennessee is on the rise. That is a great thing. After 3 years of who knows what, the Orange is going to be dominate again.
