no kiffin had seniors to coach and they had tons of experience , dooley had to play 16 freshman a game to win and we still managed 6 wins with hardly any experience, so Dooley is the better coach and personAs much as I hate I will admit that I thought Kiffin was a better coach than dooley but we'll see. I'm wrong all the time and I don't mind being wrong about this.
Not saying USC had a great year, but the players Kiffin was left wit were not outstanding players. Better than our guys, but they weren't like the quality players of the 2004 Trojans or anything like that. I wouldn't say he did horribly, but he didn't do a good job keeping the players focused and motivated.
No. Just saying they weren't as loaded as the Orange Kool-Aid Crowd tries to claim. They weren't even that good with a full roster in '09.
Dooley is a good coach. He is taking the program and putting it back together. He is doing a good job. He is recruiting for need. He is smart. He has great assistants.
UT will be back. They will again, win 10 games consistently. They will win the SEC. They will be back in the national spotlight and compete for NC's.
Tennessee is on the rise. That is a great thing. After 3 years of who knows what, the Orange is going to be dominate again.
IMO

I don't think it takes a kool-aid drinker to see that USC still had some pretty good talent despite being down numbers-wise. I'm not one to denigrate Kiffin's coaching ability, but it's tragic how much they underachieved at times this year; especially on defense.No. Just saying they weren't as loaded as the Orange Kool-Aid Crowd tries to claim. If we win the bowl game they probably bump him one or two spots toward Tubberville. Otherwise about right. Maybe on or two spots higher.

Without Montario Hardesty, Kiffin would have blown hard for 09 and 10' and would have been the laughing stock of the SEC.
USC had fewer guys on scholarship than Tennessee did. Still only finished one game worse than the 9-4 season Carroll posted in '09.

I think that list is a pretty good list. Off in some areas and spot on in others.
Dooley is probably right where he should be. 6-7. That is not good. However, he did some good things. Had a good plan for the most part and is recruiting for need.
If his teams don't get better by a large margin when all those freshman he played are juniors then that is unacceptable.
Kiffin is a good coach. If UT fans weren't so jilted they could probably see that. If he was still wearing Orange you would think he was as God. I just don't get the rationale sometimes.
I will repeat - Kiffin is a good coach. He has a lot more to work with that almost any other coach on that list. He also has an uphill battle with the NCAA and recruiting in the future.
What Kiffin and Dooley did this year are not comparable. The two programs will probably never be comparable as Apples to Apples. But that won't stop the comparisons to happen. UT has a long way to go to catch up to USC in terms of depth and talent at all positions.
With that said, the expectations for each are different as well. If Kiffin would have gone 6-7 this season I would have loved to see the reaction from USC. If Dooley would have gone 8-5 what would that have looked like???
The fact is that at USC an 8-5 season is on par with a 6-7 season at UT. Both, in the scheme of things, are unacceptable. Both need to show improvement. Next year both schools should be targeting 10 win seasons - UT probably falls short and ends up with 8 or 9. USC probably can get to 10, maybe 9. Both would be considered good seasons and a step in the right direction.
