because the garbage preseason ranking crap, which is how this game had any merit toward crowning Boise a future BCS contender, is based almost solely on last season.
Right now I have one great anxiety about our game with Oregon...watching this Boise defense...I'm not sure that we have more talent on defense than they do...which makes me concerned that the Wilcox advantage against Oregon may not be what we hoped.
VT is a new team, and Boise is much improved. They will destroy their schedule and end up in the BCS title game *if a there's no one undefeated in the Big 10 or Big 12.
Where I feel sorry for Boise is that they make offers to play alot of BCS schools and get turned down all the time. And the worst part is that they are not asking for a return game. Basically, they are willing to come to your house and pound your ass.... They have my respect.
Maybe the bigger actual concern should be that largely the same Ducks defense that held down that BSU offense to 17 offensive points on their home turf despite 44 minutes of possession is coming to Neyland.
Really? Who are they offering to show up and play and what are the details of being declined? You're acting as if they pick up the phone, ask to play and ADs run scared because it's Boise St. The logistics of scheduling generally precludes exactly what you're describing here. If they want to sign up Oklahoma, it's a process and won't be in place for nearly a decade.
Bleymaier and WAC commissioner Karl Benson have both said that a number of BCS conference schools have turned down the Broncos. They aren't naming names, probably for understandable reasons.
Good post totally agree. I think one key to this game for Tennessee is keeping the d-line fresh. I know you guys appear to be thin along the d-line. If this is true, Oregon will have a good shot at wearing them down. If that happens Oregon will be scoring quickly.
I think the key for Tennessee is to keep the Oregon offense on the sideline with 3 and outs and have sustained drives on the offensive side of the ball.

Why Won't the Nebraska Cornhuskers Play the Boise State Broncos in 2011? | Bleacher Report
Boise also made offers to 10 big name schools and all 10 turned them down. I remind you that Boise was offering to travel to their house and play without a return game.
Have you been living in a cave? This is really old news..
It's really old news that is all purely horsecrap hearsay and none of the legit reasons are ever publicized. If you want to pretend that big time programs are dodging BSU, that's your prerogative, but the reasons make perfect sense to me.
There is no economic benefit to Nebraska playing BSU and they certainly don't need a BSU win to get anywhere. BSU absolutely needs big programs to rearrange schedules and play them. Until this weak BCS beauty contest is gone, I'd tell them to screw themselves and find their own way into the BCS.

And your reasons are legit? Now that's the pot calling the Kettle black. The motivation is $$ and potentially a win over a high ranked opponent who's willing to come to your house and play with no strings attached. THERE IS PLENTY OF ECONOMIC BENEFIT.
For all the crap talked about Boise they generate $$.
this is the entire problem, Boise wants the image of being willing to play anyone but isn't willing to take a cut in pay to do so and there just isn't any incentive for a "name" school to shell out 1 million to boise when they can get someone else to come in for 350k.
this is an old article but still illuminating
Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier acknowledges scheduling issues - ESPN
[That money] is really what the market is dictating," Bleymaier said. "There are a number of schools that are paying that type of money for a guarantee game, so we would like to get what's out there in the market."
Boise State is getting $1.25 million to play Virginia Tech at FedEx Field next year, which is the highest guarantee in both school and Western Athletic Conference history. The only number that comes close is the reported $1 million San Jose State is getting to play at Alabama in next year's season opener.
These big schools can more than cover everyone that they pay to play. They make no more over a Boise sellout than they do an Arkansas State sellout.
So seeing as how the big schools are paying big money to lesser opponents, you don't see the logic in scheduling a team like Boise who will actually help generate profits from a game. For instance, I'm sure VT is going to walk away with a nice piece of change from last nights game. And keep in mind Boise was the big draw there..
they both generate similar levels of income and one costs less to play. Does that help with the profitability question?
VT will make less money from that game than they would from a sold out game in Blacksburg, period. The fact that they can't sellout Blacksburg against a patsy is their problem, so they have to do things like this.
how would television ratings help VT? Maybe you don't understand how this financial thing works.
No college football team is a for-profit entity, as per NCAA regulations, but they are all worth money; the amount a team is worth simply depends of the status, patronage, winning record and ticket sales of the football team. Big time games play into this tremendously. Ratings and the general exposure it brings and raise a programs profit margin. Money always finds it's way back to the schools with good TV shares and viewership.
If you don't understand how money generated by schools is redistributed to those schools than thats your problem.
