watching Boise St. defense...

I think we have as much talent. Heck we have had two top 10 recruiting classes in a row. Its just that we are young, you are correct though about it taking a year or so. GBO
Last 4 recruiting seasons on rivals.
TN ranks 35, 9, 10 ,33
The talent is there.
Experience will come. GBO

Recruit the fastest, hungriest 3 stars in the country. Then coach em up. That is what's on my tv right now.

Stars are meaningless.. that is why I love Dooley he knows how to look at the entire package. I will take the coaches evaluation over scout and rivals. We know how many our top rated 5 stars have panned out. (jail or transfers) Boise looks great but that goes to the head coach and their d-coordinator is using what he learned from Wilcox.:eek:k::rock:

Right now I have one great anxiety about our game with Oregon...watching this Boise defense...I'm not sure that we have more talent on defense than they do...which makes me concerned that the Wilcox advantage against Oregon may not be what we hoped.

Have you not seen the star alignment between the two teams? We clearly have the upper hand on talent.

Screw the heart stars. That means nothing.

Don't despair. Note the Boise players' jersey is soaked with sweat and even now they are slowing a bit and VT making gains as a result. But those pony boys hit hard if you pay close attention. And even tired, they come in gangs. I think it's their attitude that will make the difference. If JW puts that into our boys, Oregon will be in trouble, especially if humidity is as high as projected with 88 degrees.

i don't think it will be 88 at a 7:10 kickoff. the humidity will be down also at that time. it will be dark by the 2nd quarter and then the temp will drop. we just have to play well and be physical on both sides of the ball and the game might take care of itself. we hope !! :good!: :good!: :clapping:

(Per scout.com)

Tennessee 16th 2010 Class vs Boise St. 97th 2010 Class but you wouldn't know it based on recent history, even comparing previous years classes.

Not talking SEC vs WAC. Memphis had the 74th ranked class but don't play people much better than Boise St does, but according to the rankings, Memphis is better off thank Boise St with their talent level.

Anywho, look at what is happening now vs the Chick-fil-a bowl. Point being no matter 3, 4, or 5 stars, you still have to coach them, even to beat 'the teams you should' hence why we struggled to beat NIU, and lost to UCLA twice and Wyoming. But given I think we have much better coaching now, those references are moot points.
Exactly....you have to coach them...Boise definitely plays team ball.

Gang tackling and attitude go a long way..this is why Wilcox is great about dealing with the spread offense. The Tampa 2 defenses and mustang are more about being in a certain area to make a play. Our new defense is going for the ball.:clapping::dance2:

Agreed. But that opens up another factor. I do believe that OU is at a higher elevation than the UT geographically speaking. Which will mean they are used to breathing thinner air. Without the heat and humidity, they actually have an oxygen processing efficiency advantage.
Hopefully, we deliver enough SEC hits to take some wind out of their sails.

Boise St is bringing the pain. I'm impressed. So far, they are living up to that #3 ranking.

Elevation....Eugene = 426 feet, K-town = 889 feet.

So....I guess UT has been training in thinner air...advantage Vols.

Maybe the bigger actual concern should be that largely the same Ducks defense that held down that BSU offense to 17 offensive points on their home turf despite 44 minutes of possession is coming to Neyland.

I believe some folks think that "coaching" is X's and O's........... Watching this Boise St. TEAM is exciting and inspiring.
Its not just attitude and crazy O, its REAL coaching, mentally prepared and physically ready.
Whether they win or lose they show that *****'s don't matter plain and simple.

They are UP to the LIMIT on being BOISE St !!!!!!!! and it shows..........

Will take a great COACH to get that effort every play every day out of our "talent"....

Now...when will Brent start lecturing the coaches for not having the Hokies higher? I mean BSU is in the top 5...it is not a slight to be where there are.

Yes. Oregon's D is a scary outfit. Reminds me of some of the beastly Widenhoffer units of yore.

If we dont have the talent as Boise has on Defense then we dont need to be playing in the SEC.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They seem just as dominate without Wilcox as they did with him. Not doubting Wilcox or his abilities, just saying
Yeah but he is the one who coached up that whole defense the last few years.

Just Wiki checked your info, you're right and I'm glad to be wrong. Vols forever!

On an individual basis, I'd say Tennessee probably has more talent. But as a unit, Boise State's D is better. It's all about the system and how those players fit in.

I take note of your sarcasm but want to say this for those who actually believe what you just typed...

I don't care what anyone says...it is very possible to be 75th in recruiting and have better FOOTBALL PLAYERS than a team ranked 10th in recruiting...it isn't all about who can run the fastest and jump the highest...knowing how to play the game is a part of the equation...plus, what happens with a kid when he gets on campus. I am typically a guy that believes he with the most "stars" wins. However, a 3 star guy can improve to become better than a 4 star guy. Although this is possibly moot now because Boise has come back down to earth.
