Oregon Newspaper Article

I can respect this argument. Maybe not agree with a few points in it, but it's a good argument.

I think we ALL got a little carried away yesterday. Its good to get back down to he X's and O's.

I was optimistic about this game, but at this point I just hope we have enough bodies to play the game so I can use my ticket.

I refuse to believe we go down to a team w/ freakin feathers on their shoulder pads! This is TN for crying out loud. They have to come 2000 miles to hear us get loud and proud. We still have enough talent on this team to stand up and fight against anyone! I can be realistic but I'm sick of the nega-vols. Win or loose...it will be a contest & Dooley will have us ready to play!!

Lets break it down further:

QB, Advantage: Even. Unknown for both teams at this time.

RB, Advantage: Even. Both teams have talent and depth at the position.

OL, Advantage: Oregon. They have returning starters, we don't.

WR, Advantage: Tennessee. We have talent and depth, Oregon doesn't.

TE, Advantage: Tennessee. Stocker is a future NFL player.

DT, Advantage: Oregon. We are just thin on experience.

DE, Advantage: Tennessee. Talent and depth abound for the vols here.

LB, Advantage: Tennessee (slight). Tennessee has loads of experience and depth here.

DB: Advantage: Tennessee. Tennessee has good experience here, plus the Ducks just seem to have problems defending the pass.

Kickers, Advantage: ??????? I just can't say right now. Tennessee may have the best legs in the country right now, but they are young.

Returners, Advantage: Even. Oku has done a quality job for the Vols.

Intangables, Advantage: Tennessee. Oregon hasn't done well in away games, plus traveling east is very hard on west coast teams particularly in a daunting stadium like Neyland.

You need to take off the orange and white colored glasses if you think RB is "even". I'd also give DE to us (returning Kenny Rowe, who amassed 11.5 sacks last year). Oregon has one of the best linebacking corps in the country, we also have the advantage there.

Some one may have already said this, but Ol Miss beat the crap out of us last year. Its imperative that we stop the run, or the Ducks will put 42 on us. I would say we beat the Ducks, but its been a shame over the last few years how we have been beat by Pac-10 schools. BUt it would be a statement win for UT and CDD! Ill be there! Go Vols!

There is no reason not to beat Oregon at home IMO. And yes Kiffen will get blamed if we lose, but he won't get credit if we win, that the way fans are.

Since he is not the coach and left after one year and prior to building up the team, why in God's name should he get any credit for a win? It would be very hard to come up with ways Kiffin left this team better able to beat Oregon than before his tenure started. It is not hard to see how he set us back and then attempted to take even more players with him to USC. Then there is the distration of the NCAA snooping around due to his interpretation of the rules. Let's just hope an unlikely win over Oregon gets the Kiffin Monkey off the back of our team.

That game was about injuries and a lack of depth. Considering Oregon is early in the season, I don't see it happening.

not to make excuses but that came right after that stupid armed robbery crap where 2 starters where suspended. The chances of any team winning against a good team after an incident like that is rare. And no I am not saying we would of won but that sure didn't help our chances down there

I hate to agree with Duckin'TN but he's right. While we all hope Poole is the stud we think he is, he hasn't proved it yet. We have some bodies at RB and we think they are talented but you gotta give the edge to the Ducks at RB.

I disagree as to Duck's analysis at DE as I can't imagine they are more talented and experienced. As for LB, we are solid but not great. I'd give the LB advantage to the guys in the godawful inies but not by much

UT football started in 1891. Oregon football started in 1893.

Oregon does have a long history that Duck fans are proud of. You probably know as little about it as Duck fans tend to know about the history of UT.

This apparently may come as a shock to some. But, when you were watching UT win some past accolade, most of the rest of the country was probably watching Cosby Show re-runs. It's great to watch your team do well. Enjoy it when it happens and savor the memory. Just don't adopt the illusion that anyone else cares so much that they get less out of following their own team.

Hmmm...you may have a point.

Nope. Just checked. Bad misfire on your part.

Compare the conference and National / BCS titles between the two programs...going back to...say 1893...and Oregon is so far behind UT that you'd need a telescope to spot them.

Oregon's major claim to fame over the past two decades is (a) uniforms that look like they were designed by a gay bullfighter, (b) and their own wing at the county jail. UT might not be spotless, or flawless, during that span...but we do own a crystal football, and we are rebuilding. Oregon has peaked. Your best QB is in Mississippi, playing for a head coach who would offer a scholarship to Osama Bin Laden if he could hit the skinny post against the Alabama pass rush.

You might win the game. You should win the game. But consider the fact that you'll crow over a win against a UT team that is as down as it has been in 20 years. If UT wins, it's just another game against a PAC-10 also-ran. South Carolina, in puke green uniforms.

It is what it is. Welcome to Denny's.

Now...over the past few years? There's where you have an argument.

Still...we'll get back to where we belong...and Oregon will always be Oregon.

Again, it is what it is.

Go Vols.

What the hell is it with you and Denny's?

Vol fan, but I agree with most of this - I think DE is a push. Rowe is a great pass rusher - but I think Tennessee's overall depth here compensates for that. Its easier to scheme against one guy than a plethora of fast bodies with fresh legs.

ORegon has a great LB core for stopping the run - they are tough and experienced. However, I don't think any of them can cover Stocker. So I think UT has the advantage for this game. They match up better against what Oregon has, than Oregon's LB crew matches up with what UT has.

Of course, the huge ???? at UT's QB position might make that moot.

Tennessee will win for one simple reason... Oregon's star player hit a woman, our star players beat grown men... Argument over!

He didn't hit anyone. He chased down his crazy ex that stole his car keys and drug her to the ground.

Possibly making a move to play defense? Oregon is more known for their uniforms than winning and tradition. Good program, but wouldn't be near the top in the SEC as an overall program and tradition. Would be behind Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, and LSU.
