The "official" Lost thread

I think that Christian is the physical form of Jacob now. In the other time line where the plane did not crash, they lost his body...perhaps it fell out during the turbulence over the island.

I think Sayid is still going to be Sayid. Who knows though, I like where its going.

Im just glad that everyone on the island is in the same time now....less confusing.

This is exactly what I was telling people last night.

I like the prospect of Sayid still being Sayid much better than Jacob taking over or all the other stuff people are speculating. It allows for a "key to everything" kind of storyline, which should just be fun.

I'm beginning to think we're dealing with an alien show. That the whole thing is going to tie into all the theories about aliens visiting earth thousands of years ago. For example, that power source located on the island is part of a space ship, presumably the part that powers the inter-stellar travel. Perhaps said ship crashed on the island thousands of years ago. These aliens are Jacob, the smoke monster, and whoever else. That concept could be used to explain a lot of other things throughout history that also seem to have relevance on the island, such as (i) the Atlantis legends, (ii) the Garden of Eden stories (e.g., the idea that man lived pure in nature - i.e., the Garden of Eden - until the astronauts came along and "civilized" us), (iii) some of the mysteries surrounding human evolution, (iv) all of the Egyption references, etc. I think it could explain pretty much everything on the show.

Do a little Google search on the ancient astronauts theory.

Here's a good summary of the ancient astronauts theory:

StateMaster - Encyclopedia: Ancient astronaut theory

It's looking to me like lost is going to tap into this theory somehow.

Excerpt:

Evidence for ancient astronauts often consists of allegations that ancient monuments, such as the pyramids of Egypt, or Machu Picchu in Peru, or other ancient megalithic ruins, such as Baalbek in Lebanon,[15] could not have been built without technical abilities beyond those of people at that time. Such allegations are not unique in history. Similar reasoning lay behind the wonder of the Cyclopean masonry walling at Mycenaean cities in the eyes of Greeks of the following "Dark Age," who believed that the giant Cyclopes had built the walls. Typical candidates for the lost civilizations that taught or provided these skills are the lost continents of Atlantis, Lemuria and Mu. Another frequent theme that can be encountered in many mythologies is a person who comes from far away as a god, or as the archetype of a "civilizing hero" who brings knowledge to mankind. Prometheus is the best-known Western example. In Native American lore there are numerous examples, including Quetzalcoatl of the Aztecs and Viracocha of the Incas. The cross-cultural similarities of deities coming from the heavens and the manners in which they speak to humans are explained by some as evidence of visitations by extraterrestrial beings. The myths of Gods and Goddesses are real accounts of these visitations. The extraterrestrials are seen as divine due to their technology which is superior to the point it can only be explained as the “powers” or magic of the God or Goddess by the creators of the deity myths. For the computer game, see Myth (computer game). ...

Just randomly thinking of things that support my "ancient aliens" theory of Lost. Remember when the Smoke dude (in John's body) says to the people on the beach "I'm disappointed in all of you!" What did he mean? Disappointed in what the human race has become following alien's "civilization" of man? Or, better yet, the aliens' manipulation of pre-human DNA to create modern man? Now, he is disappointed in what earthly humans have become. Just a thought.

I really don't think it's about aliens. If it does turn out to be that way I will be really disappointed.

No.

I dont think this is it....If it is I will be extremely pissed off.

Ancient alien theory is an interest of mine. I have not seen anything in this show to rule it out completely. However the possibility that they could blend all of the popular theories into their own unique story line is a very real possibility. I certainly beleive there is more going on than simply God vs the devil. I do hold tightly to the probably that this is some kind of multi, repetitive, ever on going trial or generational testing of humanity going on. But from whence the source is the question.

I will probably get hammered for this. Well I know I will. But I still contend They make a come back before all is said and done.

I agree. The numbers made a brief appearance last season and I think we will be seeing them again at some point.

Also, the whole alien thing is ridiculous. That was one of the earliest theories back in season one. People can't figure out what is going on so they think it MUST be aliens because nothing else makes sense. The writers are too smart to have a cop-out ending that involves aliens.

They were also too smart to rely on cheesy ol' time travel and, in fact, early on denied the use of time travel in any way in the show. Well, guess what? They lied, and here we are looking at time travel all over the show. They have denied aliens too, but clearly they can't be trusted.

As for ultimate explanations, if you think it through, there really are only a few options:

1. It's God/angels/demons in the true spiritual sense somehow testing man.

2. Time travel, i.e., advanced civilization from the future is somehow manipulating the past.

3. The alien idea.

4. Multi-Dimensional ideas based in quantum physics, whatever that means.

What other possibilities are there? The authoris can't throw something out there like "Atlantis" without further explaining what "Atlantis" is. The ultimate explanation of what is happening can only fall into a few categories, none of which will be new and any of which will probably piss all of us off or disappoint us.

I just think there are now two different dimensions that will come together at one point this season. There is no way the writers will create these two different timelines if they don't inevitably come together.

Also, the whole alien thing is ridiculous.

More ridiculous then parallel time and alternate realities? I agree with that it's not aliens but calling a theory ridiculous given some of the stuff on this show is a stretch.

Can't wait until tomorrow night though. This being the last season I think we should receive more and more answers with every episode. SHOULD...

I think Claire is going to re-emerge on the island in the next few episodes. Its going to be interesting to see where she has been.

More to support the aliens theory. Didn't either Jacob or "John" say something in last week's episode along the lines of: "I'm tired. I just want to go home."

When they were in the foot, Ben asked him what he wanted and "John" said something to the extent of that. I thought it was more like I just want to go home as well.

And here's the worst possibility of all, something that would piss off the entire viewing audience. The writers may not ever really tell us what the island is. They just focus on the characters and resloving the character story lines without explaining what the island is, who Jacob/Smoke Man/Richard are, etc. I read this idea on some Lost board and they cited to some interviews with the producers that have lead some to believe that they will never tell us. Now THAT would be irritating. If they don't tell us before the show ends then . . . I'll never watch that damn show again!
