Mike Hamilton is a genius - The Debate (merged)

I'm impressed with the effort. I'm also pleased he didn't lower himself to Kiffin's level during the post-departure presser. He carried himself with dignity, chose his words carefully, and represented his University well.

Tonight he looked like a man who had put everything he had into finding a coach for the University of Tennessee. I've been critical of him, but I've got to tip the hat to him for the work he put into this.

exactly. Just because he talks southern and seems like a genuine guy doesn't cover up the fact he is a 17-20 coach in an easy conference and just went 4-8.
My question to you is what would you have done coaching-wise with 1-2* players:question:

You're right. You probably wanna give all your Tennessee stuff away now. I'll send you my address.
It doesn't take mush effort when you have a blank CK book & a Free plane ride anywhere in the country....Hamilton should be fired....he is the worst AD in the country and it's not even close!

well, considering everyone is bragging about being the "recruiting coordinator" at LSU with Saban, don't you think that he could scout enough talent to have a winning record in the WAC?

You have done literally zero research on La. Techs season last year.

You can kiss Hamilton's @ss all you won't...it don't change the fact he is the worst AD in the country!

I'm just messin' with ya. I'm a happy Vol fan tonight. I feel good after hearing our new coach address the press. I'm relieved that the search is over and I can breath again.

But seriously, if you wanna send me your stuff..... :p

That's a pretty tall order. What would you consider a save?

I'm just hoping he can make the kids feel good enough about him and his plan to give it a shot. That's about all you can ask them to do at this point.

Personally keeping us in the top 20 would be quite an accomplishment at this point. getting us back in the top 15 would be outstanding, anything more is quite a stretch.

Uuummm, the other teams he was competing against have similar talent... it's not like he was a coach with 1-2* players, while everybody else in the conference was playing with SEC talent. Additionally, even if that had been the case, he was the one recruiting them; so I'm not sure which is worse... that he could only attract 1-2* players, or that he couldn't compete with the other coaches and teams who also had 1-2* players.

In any event, he'll likely do fine at UT; and above all else, he seems like a quality person... which is something the previous HC knows absolutely nothing about.

Not that easy when you are less than a week from the open recruiting period, three weeks from signing day, and the best of the unemployed coaching talent has went somewhere else.

He made a mistake with Ole Yeller. But even Jeremy Foley made a mistake with Ron Zook--and he learned from it.

Oh, I definitely agree. A 4-8 record doesn't often raise the ire of the officials or the other head coaches. On the contrary, it makes you their best friend.

Perhaps. But an intelligent opponent picks his battles wisely.

You don't have to support the decision, but the man is now our coach.

My point is before you crucify the man give him a chance.

Hamilton made the right choice under extremely difficult circumstances. Hamilton fan? Not really. BUT, I also understand the position Lame put him in.

You have to take your hat off to Mike Hamilton. With all the pressure, he could have taken the easy pick in Cutcliffe, but instead he said the hell with it and went for the win. This is with his job on the line. He made the right decision in picking Kiffin. Although the scrotum douched us over in the end, nobody can say we weren't improving. Mike Hamilton is 1 helluva AD, period.

If they had similar talent, then they wouldn't have finished 1-7 in the WAC the year before he arrived.

I'm not convinced yet either, but he does have some good credentials when it comes to recruiting. two #1 classes at LSU. and about La. Tech, will i mean, you can't expect to land top 10 classes when you're playing in the WAC conference and recruiting against the LSU's, Bama's, and Texas's of the world.
