Tennessee under NCAA investigation over use of recruiting hostesses

Jawuan James mother said it doesn't have anything to do with the coaches, but with the hostesses'. There is no way they will be able to prove anything about it being some ploy by the coaches to get commitments. This is just like that Bryce Brown witch hunt that went on before the season. Their on our back because Kiffin has been such a hot topic in the news.

The NCAA is full of a bunch of wanna-be cops.

Is Paul Blart the chief investigator for this one?

Why don't these guys join the 21st century? Co-eds like athletes. That's why they are hostesses. Hello!

Finally, someone that gets it. It's not a coach issue, it's an athletic department failure.

I promise VolNation, I will make every effort to agree with everyone on everything.

I'm just ribbin' you a little. I agree that the message board banter can't be good in regards to public perception of how hostesses interact with recruits, but it can't possibly carry as much weight as you've given it. IMO

That's my point exactly. Thank you.

Another thought. If ladies went to the game and held up a sign that simply said come to Tennessee, there is no ground for them to stand on. That could be seen as an advertisement to anyone in the crowd and since it was not directed at one particular individual, it would be legal.

If it named name, well, that is a different case assuming that they prove as much.

It does. Take the Colorado incident into consideration. But Tennessee hostesses are in no means in that league.

Prove that theory, because when they are acting in the interest on behalf of the university, they are official representatives. It's not like these kids and girls have a previous relationship before they started getting recruited.
So are football players/STUDENT athletes that are given the responsibility to REPRESENT the University...so, what's your point? You have the rule book in front of you, do you?

If he had recruited worth a damn the past 2-3 years we wouldn't have to resort to hot chicks holding signs.

I knew it. It is Fulmer's fault. We might have to cheat because he had only one championship in 10 years. I bet he planned this ahead of time. Sort of like a time bomb. Yeah, that's it. They are Fulmer's hostesses.

Furthermore, "Come to Tennessee" is not the same as "Come to the University of Tennessee". Maybe these girls are Phil Bredesen's hostesses, since the signs only reference the state of Tennessee and not the University.

Is anyone else really concerned about this? Could this be why so many people are leaving?

I doubt it.

Gran left for more money, presumably a title advancement, and because he did not really seem to mesh with the other coaches.

Wilson got more money, RC title, and is back at home.

Other will only leave if they are advancing into Coordinator of HC positions.

This is not why coaches are leaving. Coaches are leaving because they're being offered better positions. LSU is in hot water about their receivers coach paying a recruit, so Wilson leaving one troubled program for another would make no sense from that standpoint.

I don't consider this violation a big concern. People are making much ado about nothing about this actual violation. It's the 'wide' investigation possiblity that should alarm people.

I assume I'm just panicking too much, but this sounds odd.

I just don't see how 6 secondary violations and rumblings about a few girls that went on a road trip to South Carolina are grounds for a wide ranging investigation? Surely other schools have more secondary violations in that amount of time with similar hostessing issues. Why aren't there wide ranging investigations on these schools?

Does anyone know if the host group is used just for football or are they used for other sports too? Because if it's both, and if I am not mistaken, the athletic department would be under investigation and not the football program, per se. This would mean if an investigation came down it would be a broad review of the athletic program --- not an in-depth scope of the football program.

It is concerning.

Maybe, maybe not.

It was the writer that said wide ranging. There was nothing quoted that from the 'AA, UT, etc., that said that. I believe the 'AA tends to not comment on investigations while they are ongoing. This could be simply a case of the author using wide ranging to describe how the investigation is covering multiple states as well as a "wide range" of people.

Maybe they just heard how pretty Tennessee girls are and thought an investigation would be a good excuse for some one on one time?

Because the media are making it a big deal. There are NCAA investigations that never get reported. Infact, I know at least several SEC programs had internal NCAA investigations this year. This might be the case at UT. The NCAA does it internally and then handle it in-house.

Multiple.

Players aren't supposed to have direct contact either with recruits when they are off campus. What's your point?? It's a rule that is bent beyond belief, I am sure, but it's still a violation.
