I don't hate them. In fact once I actually saw them, I thought they did a pretty good job with them.

I just don't want to wear them more than once a year. The same way I feel about all orange. I like the all orange but once a year is enough.

And yes I do HATE the idea of a black helmet.

WOW!!!!

The light just came on for me. Our colors are not Orange and White. Our COLOR is ORANGE! White is used as a contrast, the same as black was used on Saturday night. I actually think our color ORANGE jumped off the black unbelievably. With time and the right design, I believe we can incorporate this into our color scheme.

I am on board and ready to roll!

Go Big ORANGE!!!!!

I hear you can pick up a whole team's worth of black helmets pretty cheap by contacting"

Hate to break this to ya, especially since I was not an alumnus, but:

"The colors Orange and White were selected by Charles Moore, a member of the first football team in 1891, and were later approved by a vote of the student body.

The colors were those of the common American daisy which grew in profusion on The Hill. Tennessee football players did not appear in the now-famous Orange jerseys until the season-opening game in 1922. Coach M.B. Banks' Vols won that game over Emory and Henry by a score of 50-0."

I am starting to agree with Vader's wife a little more each day.

For you traditionalists, weren't the very first jerseys Tennessee wore black?

Some Tide fan did say he thought UT looked like "candy corn." Gotta be honest, thought that was pretty funny.

The great football programs don't have to sell out their traditions to get their team fired up or to get recruits on board. USC, OU, Tex, Neb, Penn State, Mich, Notre Dame, Alabama (gag), etc. The black on orange were halloween colors and that's all they should be used for....Halloween.

Actually, I am not disputing that White is an approved color by whoever. All I am saying is that Orange is the dominant color for our school, and I believe that the black sets off the orange as good or better than white.

I am not opposed to change as long as change is good for the program and the athletes. If black is good for Baseball, then it should be good for Football. I have played and coached football. Players like black and I am open to the change if it makes our players happy, and we see the results on the field.

I have never seen more people so butthurt about something so trivial.

If it's so trivial, why are you still arguing the point? :ermm:

There is nothing trivial about wanting to preserve tradition. And no, I don't think adding a little black to the uniform threatens tradition, I'm just calling you on your statement that the subject is trivial when it is clearly not trivial to those on either side of the issue. Otherwise, there would not be twenty threads on the subject...

Does anyone here understand TRADITION????????

Texas, Penn State, Bama, USC, Navy, Army, Michigan, Ohio State(I'm sorry I ever said anything positive about that crap hole).......

Would they do the black jersey?????(Don't say Army...they are black/gold)

It is about tradition!!!!! The uni's looked good, team played well......but looked like a bunch of copy-cats. Be unique...and STICK with tradition!

Do you really need that to get fired up to play Coach Visor and USC????? If so......look in the mirror!

Unfortunately, most younger folks are more concerned with change for change's sake, and with immediate gratification of their wishes, so tradition is just "old foggies sticking to stupid rules" to them.

To be fair, if someone from the 1920 team happened to tune in, I bet they thought it was pretty cool to go retro.

Oh, I've said before, I have no problem with an occasional "retro" night.

It's just that I respect those who came before me enough to realize that some of their thoughts, lessons, ideas, feelings and experiences are worth preserving, and that part of what makes groups of people great are their shared histories of overcoming, often preserved in symbols that to some appear to be just trivial matters.

I was at the game. After they went in the locker room after pre game, not only mine, but everyones eyes were on the tunnel, waiting for them to walk out. When they did, in the most amazing, one time black jerseys, Neyland stadium went ELECTRIC.

For those who dont like it, why not? Its the first time weve played on halloween NIGHT since WWII. Its something recruits will love.

Those who throw out the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it, or some such thing...

Just in...Hyams reporting that there is no truth to the rumor that the Vols will be wearing black uniforms during the South Carolina game this Halloween.

wow, can't believe there are this many people still b*tching about UT wearing a black and orange jersey, ONE TIME, on Halloween.

The game's over. The holiday is over. The jersey is over. Get over it already.
