Looking Past The Upcoming Beatdown...

With the possibility of storms (per accuweather anyway) it being slippery when wet might hold the scoring down and limit some of the speed advantage.

(I'm digging, I know)

If we dont come back and destroy Ohio after the UF game then the mental state of this team will be in jeopardy for the rest of the year. A lackluster performance against Ohio even if it's a win will give us NO confidence heading into the rest of the SEC schedule.

Yep, Yep, Yep you are so right. After our UCLA loss I went to Knoxville to watch us play UAB and we looked poorly so I knew it was going to be a long season. looked like we didn't even want to play anymore so yeah if we lose to Florida and we play poorly against Ohio then be ready for a long season.

But then again with this new staff I don't see Orgeron and others walking around with our heads down. Fulmer was just a take it in the btt type of guy.

The Fulmer lovers are hypocrites.. Tell me why they bash Kiffin for losing to UCLA and then are actually believing that there's a way we can beat Florida...

When Phil lost to Cal in 2007 he went into the swamp even after a week to recover and got drilled...Soooo...

That to me thinks they think Kiffin can pull off a great feat that Fulmer couldn't.. leaving me to believe that deep inside they know how much better Kiffin is..

I don't know if I'd go that far, but there have clearly been a bunch of guys ripping Kiffin this week for stuff that they used to give Fulmer a complete pass on.

Based on the wide open receivers and the sustained drives in the 4th quarter, I'd say that he called a decent game.

Now that he has seen Crompton's gameday exploits first hand, I'm convinced that his playcalling will adjust to fit his personnel.

That is a pretty good zing from someone that was more than patient with Fulmer.

Patience with coaching is earned. Kiffin is already in the hole. He'll climb out and earn the right to screw up.

I support the coaches and still hold a small hope that we'll go bowling.

If it was just bad QB play, it would be one thing, but when your OL is getting dominated too, anything you do as a playcaller is going to look bad. He didn't have any options that didn't suck.

I'd like to have seen him try something else too, but really, I can understand why Kiffin called it the way he did, given the culture he's trying to establish (pulling Brown for going out of bounds against WKU, etc.). If you can't get two yards on two carries -- at home against a Pac 10 team -- then you might as well not have gotten off the bus.

So the culture is don't step out of bounds, but it's OK to stare down receivers, make bad decisions, and throw interceptions.

We can argue all day about the timing of his decision, but I think you are absolutely right. It is quite possible that Kiffin wanted to test his OL to see how nasty they could get. Personally, I was wondering the same thing. I'm on record saying he called the exact play that I wanted to see.

I was all for the "pound it" approach. Until I saw Price running back on the field after being out for several plays catching his breath.

Tennessee doesn't have a quarterback on the roster who can play the position without doing that stuff. The only way for Kiffin to avoid those problems would be to just run the Wildcat every play.

I think it's safe to say that recruiting terrible QBs isn't going to be part of Kiffin's MO going forward.
