Chaz Coleman's future remains uncertain (CBS)

i've been saying this. UT NIL needs to get some of their money back if they opt out of bowl games too.
You can’t. NIL cannot be tied toward performance. This is about their individual marketing value. I don’t understand why the NCAA hasn’t challenged this aspect. If a player gets $1 million, then there ought to be clear, definable ways to measure the reciprocal benefit to the NIL collective.

The NCAA and the collectives haven't challenged this because that's asking the courts to call the players employees. They don't want the players to be seen legally as employees and be able to actually negotiate for revenue sharing.

Most pro sports share revenue at about 50% for owners and 50% for players because of the players union playing hard ball in negotiation. Highly profitable schools like UT do not want to split the money 50-50.

Any confirmation on Chaz participation?
I've seen mixed things. I saw someone on X say that he was at workouts yesterday, but then basically in the same breath also said it could be likely he doesn't make it to the season. I don't understand the kid's problem. He can't be homesick the rest of his life. If he has aspirations of playing big boy football in the NFL and gets drafted out west, what's he gonna do? Just say forget it and live with mom the rest of his life?

I believe he is also having bouts of vertigo, which is a legit medical issue.

If he’s having a medical issue, then he should disclose it and get medical treatment. I’ve dealt with vertigo and it’s horribly disruptive. If he is medically incapable, then step away. My guess is he doesn’t want to forfeit $2 million.

While what you posted above is accurate, he’s unable to fulfill NIL obligations if he’s not in town, which it sounds like he hasn’t been. Stoerner’s last post on Coleman mentioned a protection clause, which is certainly interesting.

I do believe Tennessee can recoup the money if this doesn’t get resolved soon. I’d rather go into the season with a pass rusher though.

Then disclose it as a medical issue he's working through like they do other injuries or sicknesses with players. People can understand that. All the inside reports keep saying it's personal stuff and he's just not showing up. That's totally different, especially given the recent optics with the Boo situation.

We have to start vetting players better. Nico, Boo, and this head case back to back to back is unacceptable.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. The whole DL room left and this move made sense with the other PSU guys coming in as well. But it seems there's a reason Ohio State didn't push as hard for him both in his initial recruitment and this past cycle...

Heupel has always had a problem with this: Jeremy Banks, Lynn J Dixon, Nico, Pearce, Boo, and now Chaz. Seems like we aren't doing great screenings of people's personalities before setting them up in important position groups for us.

This was just three weeks ago. Maybe the kid really is going through some things but posting pictures on social media flexing money tells me a different story.

This looks like another incident where Heupel is letting a kid play him like a fiddle. I really hope I'm wrong but it sure feels like our coach is just too nice/trusting of a man for this current state of college athletics.

You start looking at Pearce, Nico, Boo and now Coleman and there is a clear trend that is developing where we are not thoroughly vetting players. It's not only messing with locker room dynamics, but when it continues to be your highest paid players it is devastating our ability to maximize our roster.

That's 6 players in 6 seasons.

That is 6 starters and these have been mostly major impact starters too. Jeremy Banks played a major role in South Carolina's loss. Nico gave us that Arkansas loss and left us with insane turmoil before the season. Boo probably cost us at least one game last year. Our breakups with some of these players have been national news. Besides UGA, I can't think of another major SEC program that has consistently had offseason personality issues at our level.

I don’t know the situation in detail. If he’s truly has a medical situation and wants to be here is one thing. If it’s more than that and he doesn’t want to be here or can’t make up his mind you can’t coddle him forever either. Again it’s all speculation from here anyway. All we can do is trust Heupel is handling it the best way possible. I hope it works out, but it will eventually work out one way or the other. GBO

What a clown.

So if this ends up with him not playing, he keeps the NIL money and that's it right? I remember seeing a couple cases the last season or two of teams suing former players over money. Not saying UT should do that if it comes to it but just wondering what the options are.

Posting photos like that is how you wind up getting robbed.
Seeming like it’s time to move on. He hasn’t proven anything on the field here that people would look the other way as long as we were winning
