Chaz Coleman's future remains uncertain (CBS)

How do you get your “need to move on” pov?
I don’t comment on player health issues until they enter the public reputably. He has severe Vertigo. He’s improved. It was so severe at one point that he couldn’t lie down, or sleep. He’s away from family with a severe health challenge. We have NIL protections in contract and he has a history with Knowles, who believes in him and his character. There’s nothing achieved by adding “we need to move on” language. It will work out, or not. The smart play is to sit still. The grownups know the plan.
Is that what it is, vertigo? That crap will mess you up. It comes out nowhere and hits hard too. I’ve had to help my wife through several episodes over the years, even having to pick her up as she couldn’t drive.

What the heck, I’ll jump in. You and EastTN are actually both correct. Mental health is absolutely a real issue and can lead to physical health issues. EastTN is correct that many people are quick to jump to having this issue or that issue and are certainly quick to try and get out of work due to things they could and others do work through. At the same time, there is a rise in mental health issues, not just due to better diagnosis and more education on the subject. I definitely believe the shift to a more online society is driving up mental health issues for a variety of reasons. On a side note, it’s funny how people only get migraines and food poisoning now. What happened to normal headaches and stomach aches? Words are very much losing their meaning.

Regardless of all that, with a situation like Coleman, we have to trust the staff and wait for the ultimate outcome and whatever facts we get. Mental health, if that’s what this is, isn’t to be taken lightly. I say give the kid the benefit out the doubt that he lives playing football and it must be something serious for him to not be out there. If facts to the contrary come out, fine, but until that time comes, good luck young man, I hope your issue resolves quickly!
With Stoerner, who usually has decent info or keeps out of things, saying it was intense vertigo, I'll go with that.

As for headaches, I still get normal tension headaches and allergy sinus headaches but migraines are a different animal. I've not had them but I've been there for others having color flashes, nausea, throbbing pain, and basically being incapacitated by migraines. I've also seen both injections and sublingual tabs work wonders for them.

As for mental health, I linked to pro athletes dropping out of high level competition to take care of themselves. Is it "how we did it in my era?" Not at all, but it's an improvement. As usual on VN, there's a lot of guys who have to show how tough they are and "still got through it so everyone else can kiss my butt if they're soft." I believe that's a direct quote from Jesus..... or perhaps not.

Either way, I hope Coleman gets past all of it and I'm impressed with Heupel not making a big deal or getting into a back and forth in any way about Coleman's health issues. Staff seems to have had his back the whole way.

May 25th 👀

Vols insider shares the latest on Chaz Coleman’s status

VolQuest’s Austin Price joined WNML’s Josh and Swain on Wednesday and shared the latest update on Coleman as Tennessee’s players prepare to return to campus for summer workouts beginning May 25.

“He’s continuing to be around,” said Price. “He’s continued to have conversations with people on campus. But when the team reconvenes for that first workout on the 25th, he needs to be out there. And if he’s not out there, that’s not a good sign. So, a lot of eyeballs will be on him that day to see if he’s back out there and working out with the team.

“And again, he’s a guy that can help Tennessee this fall. He’s obviously got a lot of upside, but he needs to be in the weight room. [He needs to be] around the team and building camaraderie with his teammates. I think in the spring, he didn’t do himself any favors with the fact that he missed basically the last three or four weeks with what he’s got going on. So I think everybody can be somewhat compassionate to that, but he’s got to be back and ready to go on May 25. He’s got to be ready to hit the ground running.”

If it’s intense vertigo I feel sorry for Coleman. That’s not simply getting a little dizzy. That’s can’t stand up, turn your head or really move without getting sick.

Thankfully, also, I feel certain UT has actually "had his head examined" to make sure nothing is organically wrong and causing problems much bigger than football.

I hope and pray the young man gets relief and I can see why there was talk of family coming to Knoxville for support.

As someone that gets vertigo often, it sucks. It can be life altering for sure. I’ve had it for 3 years and have had to stop driving because it’s just not worth risking an episode on the road.
