RPI and Bracketology

They would likely hunt me down personally since in single-handedly created the Applebee deal
I think I would drop the Applebees talk. It kinda backfired. Made proponents look like they thought Applebees was a measure of food culture. Hatties has no Applebees because Applebees couldn’t compete against their local restaurants. They put their lack of Applebees very much in the plus column.

Hattiesburg has some great local restaurants and not boring, horrific national chains that sell frozen, microwaved food.

My inner fan boy sez we win Hattiesburg and A&M screws the pooch. Committee awards the super to Tennessee even if the College Station winner is also the 2nd seed cause LNS is the best facility.
The NCAA doesn’t award sites anymore. They seed 1 through 32. The higher seed gets home-field. So if it’s Tennessee and the 2 seed in the College Station regional, the higher seed overall gets home field.

D1 projections:

Tennessee is second seed at #9 Southern Miss. with TCU at #3 and perennial giant killer Illinois-Chicago at #4
That region is paired against #8 Texas A&M with UCS, UTSA, and Lamar.

Last 4

NC State
East Carolina
Kentucky
Michigan

First 4 Out
Troy
Texas State
Kent State (they've fallen on hard times late in season.
South Alabama

4 To watch:
SEMO
Purdue
UAB
Vanderbilt

the comments bring up good points.

* Mississippi State only has four SEC series wins but are listed as host. Several seasons ago, Ole Miss was told they could not host because they only won 4 series.
* Miss State did win a single series against an SEC teams with a winning records and 9 of thei 16 SEC wins were against the lowest four teams.
* Oregon State is not listed as a host (worse? they are going to Eugene) Beavers are being punished for being abandoned in the conference musical chairs
* Georgia clearly had the easiest SEC schedule as they play all the bottom feeders (LSU, SC, Mizzou) and only played a combined 25 Q1/Q2 games
* Arkansas at Nebraska would be the highest profile regional with Van Horn returning to Nebraska (see if you can spot a certain Smart A$$ comment by myself.
* Alabama has no business being seeded above Southern Miss

IMHO, Nebraska has ZERO business hosting a region. They won 1 game against Auburn and got blitzed in the other two. They lost two games to pedestrian Michigan team. They were swept be a terrible Ohio State team. They are a product of a mediocre big10 east and still lost too many games against midwest teams who simply don't give a damn about the sport. Their best series win was at home against USC who also has no business being ranked. I've never had respect for Nebraska. Only Notre Dame has been propped up more by the NCAA.
Give me this all day long.

RPI

I am switching to D1 RPI rankings until Warren's kidnappers show some proof-of-life. BTW, Warren did move us up to 30 after last night but still has not added the game2 win over the weekend.

Tennessee RPI ranking stayed steady after last night's win. Which is actually the most we could ask for since we were playing #134 South Carolina.

Let's show you our "neighbors" on the block

23....Virginia
24....Coastal Carolina
25...Mercer
26....Missouri State
27....Arkansas
28....Tennessee
29....Jacksonville State
30.....Oklahoma State
31.....Miami
32.....UCF
33......Boston College

Clearly, tonight's game will have more impact as we are playing the team immediately ahead.
#26 Missouri State is playing #81 Kennesaw State tomorrow in C-USA tourney. The tourney is actually hosted by Kennesaw. This will be th3 4th straight game at KSU for the Bears as they went 2-1 over the weekend with the Owls.
Mercer's opponent is not known yet in SoCon Tourney in Greenville.
#24 Coastal Carolina is playing #37 ULL for the 4th straight game in the Sun Belt tourney in Montgomery. The Chants went 1-2 against the Cajuns in Lafayette last weekend. ULL run ruled #183 Marshall on Tues.
#29 Jax State plays #217 MTSU Thur. and #135 WKU on Friday. Their RPI will drop no matter what they do.
#30 OK State will play #32 UCF on Friday has a double bye in the Big12 tourney in Surprise, AZ as both got double byes
#31 Miami is currently playing #98 Stanford
#32 BC is has a double but don't play in the ACC tourney in Durham until tomorrow as they will play the winner of that Miami/Stanford game.

For the Vols to seriously increase their RPI, will require winning the tourney.
There's little to no chance of them getting to #16 in the RPI but could get to a host slot based on other factors. Still a longshot.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KPI

Tennessee is #20 in KPI
Arkansas is #16
Oklahoma is #19
This is due to SOS as TN 's SOS is an "ok" 39 OU is 5 and Ark is 9

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those thinking about possibly hosting.

D1's picks as seeds 9-16 are:

Southern Miss
Florida
Florida State
West Virginia
Nebraska
Miss. State
Kansas
Oregon

Clearly the last 4 teams are the most vulnerable.
Miss State has already won today.
The Big10 tournament is in Omaha, making Nebraska the de facto host. That is an odd tourney format. They play either Rutgers, Ohio State, Michigan or Washington
Kansas plays tomorrow against the winner of Baylor vs BYU/Texas Tech
Oregon plays in the same oddball Big10 tourney against the winner of tonight's Michigan/Washington game
West Virginia gets the Big12 double bye and plays the TCU vs. Utah/K State game

BUT, getting an open slot in the top 16 is not enough as there are teams between 16 and Tennessee who D1 seeded as #24.
Oregon State
Ole Miss
Coastal Carolina
Arkansas
Southern California
Cincinnati
Oklahoma State

Ole Miss is already toast. Tennessee can only impact one of those remaining seven (Arkansas)

So basically, Tennessee needs to outperform and leapfrog all (or most) of the 17-23 teams and home a top 16 spot opens, That will require winning the SEC Tournament.

Predictions:

I could see Tennessee passing Ole Miss, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas (with a win today), Cincinnati, and Oklahoma State. Oregon State has no conference tourney and no games remaining. Getting past them is not really possible. The Beavers will get the first spot that opens up. And good for them.

This means, Tennessee will need two teams in the bottom part of the top 16 to slip up .
