Chaz Coleman's future remains uncertain (CBS)

So, he can have a problem inside his head like vertigo or concussion issues which we never used to hear about being a big deal other than "getting your bell rung" or taking a good hard lick.

I think concussions are just a fad, don't you? Soft. These guys are soft. That whole CTE is all just BS, right? It's only in the last 40 years...... it's a fad...... take your hits or you're soft.

Amazing that with other issues we can "learn about problems we didn't know about in the past" but there's no such thing as learning more about mental health.
You continue to make this about something it’s not. Now you’re even off in the weeds with concussions and CTE and any straw you can grasp at to be on the kids side. Which correct me if I’m wrong we haven’t heard reports of. Even if so, I wouldn’t think this level of damage was done at UT considering he just got here? You signed a contract. You got a fat bag. Now fulfill the contract or don’t get paid. It’s that simple.

Sometimes in business there are hard situations. I can tell you aren’t built for those. Say a kid signs, receives 2 million but then loses a family member to tragedy and wants to go back home. Unfortunate situation right? No one’s “fault”. But we still shouldn’t be on the hook for that 2 million regardless of unfortunate situations. You’d bankrupt a business real quick.

I'm not saying Coleman has CTE, I'm responding to you saying "mental health is a fad" and just recent.

CTE was never an issue either when I was playing football, so is it just a fad? Certainly not. We've learned more about medical conditions like head injuries.

Believe it or not, medicine has learned more about mental health and your statement about lots more people being medicated ALSO applies to lots of cardiac meds and meds for diseases like Crohn's Disease and lots of others because new meds have been developed to treat cardiac conditions...... and, GASP!?!!..... mental health conditions.

None of us know what Coleman's issues are nor how serious they are. I also don't know the exact nature of Hobbs' foot injury nor how serious it is nor what is being done to treat it.

I trust you don't think Hobbs should pay back NIL or get cut because his foot is injured?

If you think we aren't over medicated as a society, especially in the mental health realm, then we are on way opposite ends if the spectrum to even begin discussing it. You'd prob call me a conspiracy theorist if i told you there’s big money in big pharma and it’s being pushed now more than ever.

But getting in the weeds again. And no, i believe a true medical injury is the one exception here. The problem is you’re trying to do everything you can to spin homesickness as a medical injury. It’s silly. I think you’re just bored and arguing.

You don't know Coleman is just homesick. As I said before, there's ZERO indication he's tried to go home or leave Knoxville for home. There's absolutely nothing but rumor yet here we are.... again and again..... "He's just homesick."

Slander the kid all you want. I hope he gets past what's bothering him, just as I do with any Vol having an issue, while you just want to throw rocks out of what seems like jealousy that he's gifted enough to be offered big money to play football.

I'm sorry you feel your life is somehow worse because Coleman is having some kind of issues.

You have just as much chance of being correct as @EastTNVol6240 does.
You can caudle the guy all you want to; but facts are facts... He's being PAID to be here and perform.
Until there's a solid answer about what is going on, it's completely fair for people to speculate.
If it was some dramatic health situation, reporters/media would surely know more.
It's not cruel... it's business and if he isn't tough enough to handle the critics, then he isn't tough enough to cash the checks.

I doubt Coleman is bothered by speculation and suspect he's doing what he needs to get better just like Hobbs is likely doing what he needs to do to get better.

The vitriol here is that "it's not a real problem" when as I pointed out, there's an entire medical specialty devoted to mental health and multiple ancillary medical staff and entire hospitals, clinics, etc devoted to the MEDICAL problems that can result from mental health issues.

That's the BS here. Mental health is a health issue. Just because you don't accept that doesn't mean the entire branch of medicine doesn't exist for a reason.

No, you are ABSOLUTELY wrong. Mental health is a ******** excuse for that kid to funnel money and do NOTHING for it.
If this is a mental health thing, he should be kicked off the team or sued if he's received a dime from us.
If you are man enough to cash a check, be man enough to earn it.

You and I simply don't know that. Last I heard as a rumor was he's been in the building, having conversations with staff, and trying to work things out. That and $3.50 will buy you bad coffee but it is the last rumor I saw.

The truth is you don't know how serious whatever issue he's having is nor how serious Hobbs' foot injury is either which kept him out of Spring ball. I don't either.

But sure, let's ditch any player who has a problem and sue them for the money. Hobbs..... give it back because you might be faking. Coleman, give it back because you might be faking. Anybody else gets injured or has a problem..... gets in any trouble or causes an issue, give us back our money.

I'm sorry you guys are miserable because others are gifted and get paid ridiculous amounts to play ball. Life ain't fair like that.

It’s not that we’re miserable cause others are gifted, it’s because they don’t use those gifts to the fullest of their capabilities. If you saw someone who is incredibly smart and has the mental capacity to completely outshine everyone in the workforce, but he does the bare minimum, wouldn’t you be upset?

Depends.

If he's my child, yep. I'm upset and I'll tell them so.

If he's some unrelated person that has no effect on my life, nope. That's their business.

I feel sorry for them and, if they're young and my family, I might want to talk with them and see what they have holding them back from shining.

Their path may be bumpier than it looks to me and people aren't robots built to play sports or solve equations or kill people as soldiers..... but most of life takes place not on a field, in an office, or on a battlefield.

You've said you're 14 and I'll bet sometimes crap from home or outside class or some friend or family member is ill and you're worried about them and it gets in the way of concentrating at school or practicing, if you play a sport. It happens that you're "carrying something" and can't give your best.

I don't know what's keeping Coleman from working to his fullest potential and, thankfully, it's not my job to help him.

He could be just lazy, that happens too, but if he were lazy...... he's already put in a heck of a lot of work just to get to be a highly recruited, highly paid D1 player. He's done a bunch of time already on practice fields and in the weight room and watching film and all the "non glamour" stuff it takes to be an elite athlete. He's wasted a lot of time not being lazy to get where he is. His past doesn't point to him being lazy.

Surely our collective wasn't stupid enough to pay the kid $2m or anything close up front? If they were, they deserve to get bent by the player and his group.
Almost all of the kids are paid up front. At every school.

Drama queen much? As fans we go on what limited info we get. The info we’ve gotten is he’s missing home and unsure if being here, correct?

Here you are being dramatic flailing around again. No one has been slandered. I feel like I’m arguing with my wife. You have literally made up nonsense with every response fighting arguments never even mentioned. Actually said no hard feelings if the kid goes home so quite the opposite. My argument was that keeping the money shouldn’t be an option.

Jealousy? Lol. I own a business, do great for my family and will never have CTE or a life long list of surgeries associated with football. Here you are…. Once again flailing and making a dramatic spectacle. I don’t give a **** about Coleman or his issues. I hope he works it out and has a great career. If not it also doesn’t affect me one bit. All I’ve said is from a business standpoint it would be bad practice to let him return home with 2 mil when he did absolutely 0 for it.

Not sure what your career was. But you really missed out at being an agent or a union president. You know, being slippery and fighting with everything in you for something someone likely doesn’t deserve.

Look, you can't kick him off the team and get the 2 million back at this point.

This happens all the time with athletes - sometimes, especially if if you don't do intense vetting, you get stuck with a lemon. Just ask the Titans about Isaiah Wilson.

This is all on the scouting dept, if we have one.

So does UT want to be known as a program that will go after an athlete's NIL if they're unable to play?

There's zero indication that he's intentionally saying "You can't make me play" but there's indications he's saying "I can't play but I'm trying to fix it."

What's next? A player gets an NIL, gets hurt, and can't play so we go after his NIL for "failure to provide services?"

Again, there is zero indication that Coleman has taken the money and skipped town or isn't trying to get past his issues. Zero.

It seems you guys would be willing to take back NIL from any athlete who can't play if you feel "that's not a serious enough problem" even while the coaches and staff are working to help that player overcome the problem.

And you expect to be able to recruit with this attitude toward players? Seriously?
So what’s the excuse for tardiness?

Many of us dealt with mental health and didn’t have the support and money you get from being a football player. Life’s tough, wear a helmet. Zero ****s left to give in this era. There’s nearly 40k students at UT, and only about 150 that anyone posting here gives a **** about.

That's true. I didn't get any favors from life so screw anyone who has gifts and gets favors in life if they have trouble. That's my motto. Screw the world because I never got a break.

Show up every day and we’ll care about your mental health. Disappear and you can worry about it on your own and you’ll get treated like a deserter.

Judas Priest this post is pathetic and makes you look oblivious while calling someone else a drama queen, drama queen. And no **** you never played football.
Hope people skip most of it except for when you say “I don’t give a **** about Coleman or his issues.” That’s all you needed to post and all posters need to read to know the type of person you are.

All these comments and probably none that have real information regarding NIL / SPYRE or how payments work. I imagine SPYRE and every other school’s NIL system wants it that way. The ‘LESS’ you know

Show up and get to work or go home. Those are the options, Chaz. I'm already tired of hearing about it. Every year it's some new diva player and it rarely ever works out.

Suspect this goes just like Boo and Bey. See no benefit in trying to keep the kid if he wants to be somewhere else. Just get the money back and wish him well. Even if he does stay this time, I don't see how you can count on him going forward. Just end this already. Both parties will be better off.
