The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Is this kid really that good? He seems like a fine player in the limited tape I have watched, but I read that Kansas and Kentucky both offered him a fully guaranteed contract essentially by pulling his money out of rev share instead of NIL and that’s he’s going to be the highest paid player in college basketball history.

I mean, after this recent freshmen class, I find it hard to believe he’ll be any better than Acuff, Dybantsa, Boozer, Flemings, et cetera. Seems far more likely he’s a bust given expectations.

I honestly have no idea if he’s that good or not. I’m just not a fan and hope he doesn’t succeed.

I get we all hate Kentucky, but he was signed with Kansas already when he visited UK. (Not sure if 100% true though)

The whole recruitment has just left a really bad taste in my mount and it has nothing to do with our team, that’s how much I dislike this kid.

Oh. I thought you meant you were actually excited to watch him. Yeah his whole recruitment has been a clown show. Seems like the definition of a “me first” player and one that will give Self heartburn all season long just like Petersen did this year.

I don't get why everyone here is intent on making fun of Pope and ridiculing him. Damn guys, we want this guy in Lexington for 4-5 more years minimum. It's time we showed a little support for the stellar job he's doing.

Woah. That’s a crazy stat. Not like we don’t play anybody either, just lots of ISTs I guess

Partly because we've used Nashville and other "neutral" court locations to entice Big 10 opponents. This season Illinois was in Nashville and Louisville was at TBA.

We also do a lot of our OOC P5 games in those travel tournaments.

I guess that's the new evolution of the pre-season tournaments. I assume that both sides in each match are getting paid, not just Duke.

This stuff just sucks. Don’t like the idea of certain schools with bigger brands and built in advantages getting even more advantages. Hard to compete.

Seems like that would decrease the value of the ACC’s tv deal and negatively affect the revenue for the rest of the conference. Duke may be prepping to go the ND route

Duke sees the writing on the wall; there's a strong chance that the two-conference super league we all know is coming won't select Duke depending on how much of the finances (and it's a lot, of course) hinge upon football, and I'm not convinced that the Big XII life raft will be appealing nor would remaining in a diluted ACC. Take your flagship program and be a mercenary, if any school can pull it off in basketball it's clearly them.

Grant Williams and former Tennessee softball player Kiki Milloy are engaged, according to a post from their Instagram accounts on Tuesday afternoon. The engagement appears to have taken place at The Sunset Estate in Tacoma, Washington.

How the Team Changes

  1. Lower "Ceiling," Higher "Floor": You lose the 7-foot intimidation factor of Okpara, but your average height across the starting lineup will likely increase. Instead of having a 6'2" guard and a 7'0" center, you’ll likely start three or four guys between 6'7" and 6'10".
  2. The "Juke Harris" Advantage: In the past, Tennessee has sometimes played smaller guards like Zakai Zeigler (5'9"). By adding Juke Harris (6'7") to a backcourt that already has Jalen Haralson (6'7"), you are essentially putting a "wall" of 6'7" athletes on the perimeter. This makes it incredibly hard for opponents to pass over the defense.
  3. The New "Big" Anchor: Miles Rubin is the key. While he is listed at 6'10" (one inch shorter than Okpara), his wingspan and verticality are elite. He will be your tallest active player, supported by Braedan Lue (6'9") and DeWayne Brown II (6'9").

The Verdict

You are losing about 2 inches of max height in the paint, but you are gaining about 3 to 4 inches of height on the wings.

The team will look less like a traditional "big man" squad and more like a modern NBA-style roster: long, switchable, and versatile. You won't have a 7-footer to bail you out with blocks as often, but you'll have 6'7"–6'9" guys at almost every position, which is a nightmare for opposing offenses to score against.

Would you guys agree with this?
