The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

These Michigan fans are pissing me off on Twitter! They're salty that we got Juke saying he's chasing a check like their entire team didn't do the same thing last year. Also JP did the same thing and they aren't complaining about him. It's also funny that they think they have the next Time Duncan in him or something 😂

I want to face them again so bad in the tourney next year!!

Plus a catch and shoot sharpshooter that could be as lethal from deep as Lofton or Houston was.

Yeah kick outs are a big part of it.

Sheppard absolutely feasted in that offense a couple years ago.

Ive said in another thread that Barnes adjusts the offense based on personnel, and my bet is this year we see more 5 out and dribble drive motion offense type sets than ever before.

I think we'll run more too. He has a roster full of deer at this point. So I could see lots of rebounds and quick transition. And regardless of who plays you know at least 3 guys on the court at a time will be comfortable dribbling it up, especially in fast breaks.

Yep. Rebounding numbers are gonna take a dip, but the offensive efficiency is going to increase so so much. Or at least it better...lol

Offensive rebounding opportunities won't be as plentiful off of missed bunnies.

And for people reading that maybe aren't familiar with 5 out offensive sets.

5 out offense isn't necessarily new or modern. And it doesn't mean shooting a ton of 3's. The Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan ran a ton of 5 out as an example (this is when zone was banned). It's just a scheme that let's you play a lot more 1v1 when you think you have the advantage there.

If we play 5 out, we should be able to mismatch hunt and pick on a bad defender. Because I think we have 4 guys that should be able to take a guy off the dribble and get to the rim pretty consistently.

Edit: And it wasn't exactly 5 out, but our game against Mizzou where Barrett went bananas is a way to kind of think about it. They weren't true 5 out, but overloaded the floor a bunch and cleared out to let Barrett go to the rim over and over. I think you'll see a lot of offense like that.

Last year we ran a ton of high pick and roll.

At this stage I doubt we will see so much of that. But we’ll see.

Terrence Hill is the guy that’s gonna decide how this offense is gonna look more than any other IMO. I can’t wait. I’m so excited to see this team play.

I would guess we'll see a real emphasis on transition and early shots with this group, and not the slog we would fall into at times last year.

With Hill, Ames, Juke, and Lundblade on the floor in a small ball lineup going 5-out would be lethal, but CRB would have to pick his spots with that group defensively.

They are literally hanging a banner because guys chased checks. lol. Why do they hate the game all of a sudden?

If I’m a smaller school competing for one of those 16 or 15 seeds slots, this would piss me off.

So, now all we’ve done is shift more of the AQs to a do or die game before the real tournament begins so we could make more room for P4 bubble teams.

Anyone who thought it'd be for the smaller schools is an idiot.

It's always been about a 7-11 conference record team getting in.

I'm all for the OVC, ASUN, MAAC, MVC or AEC regular season champ getting a seed in addition to the conference tournament champion over more chit teams from the SEC, ACC, B10, etc.

But that's never going to happen.

A disgrace in every way - cheats the small conference auto qualifiers and another power grab by the P4 conferences. Now most of those smaller schools won't get the thrill and opportunity to be part of the tournament after they lose to some 15-15 P4 team that was 6-12 in their conference. It will also penalize 1 and 2 seeds, who will likely now have to face a P4 team instead of the small schools traditionally 15 and 16 seeds.

And finally, it will make filling out a bracket more of a hassle than many casual fans will want to bother with given the convoluted format. They have succeeded in taking the best sporting event in the world and further gutting it.

I don’t think your first paragraph is true. The committee isn’t going to put P4 schools in 15/16 matchups. What I was saying is we’ll see more mid-major and low-major AQs that won their conference tournament pushed from Thursday of the tournament to the “First 12”.

The “First Four” the last few years only had two 16 versus 16 matchups. Based on that new bracket, you’re getting all 4 regions with a 16 vs 16 game now and a few 15 vs. 15 to make room for more bubble teams. The talking heads in the media will try and sell this as a good thing because the winner will get revenue for that but I highly doubt the actual athletes will like having their dream of playing on Thursday/Friday against the 1/2 seeds snatched.

I'm not sure exactly how it will work as far as the makeup of the early games, but your final sentence was my primary point, that small school players are going to be robbed of that once in a lifetime chance to be part of the actual tournament playing a 1 seed on Thursday/Friday.

But I do believe it's going to affect the 1/16 and 2/15 matchups, as many of those small conference champs that regularly populate those games will be eliminated in the early "play-in" games.

Add one more big and this roster is set. Football season has almost become irrelevant.
Wouldn't say irrelevant because it's the financial engine that drives the train, but I certainly don't feel the excitement that I do with basketball and baseball. Maybe it's because the league has adjusted to Heupel and his scheme? We're kinda mid and not all that entertaining to watch anymore.
