2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

If you have been following it close you know they are doubling what they spent last year. DW knows this is the one sport close to a championship.
I don’t think it’s DW. If they spend that much, it’s boosters doing it. I give DW no credit. He’d probably rather give Kim more money for the forward from Samford.

Michigan can have Estella lol. People upset about a guy that constantly missed layups, liability on defense, and averages under 20 minutes a game because of either foot issues or fouls is just laughable.
They're going after a player that has played 23 mpg over three seasons at a mid major and that number was bumped up bc he played 30 mpg this year. He's a good player, but Estrella was the most valuable on/off player on the team by a noticeable margin. People have a right to be upset over losing the best player on the team after being told the program is going all in

They are going all in. And he was not the best player lol. Nate is still on roster.

I wish he would’ve stayed but I also don’t like a 7 footer who has more turnovers than blocks. JP is a finesse player with a nice little right hook but one of the worst man defenders and help defenders in the SEC last year as far as 4s and 5s.

A) They are going all in and not paying people. If they don't get Tanner, what's the point of saving the money. The Final Four teams were built on a floor general point guards, big/strong guards that could attack rim, and big/strong/versatile/mobile frontcourts. Evans fit big/strong guard category and Estrella obv fits the third as the champions just showed.

B) Just bc Troy played a lil AAU ball with Nate Ament, does not mean Nate is turning down being a potential lottery pick

There are other top point guards in portal. Acaden Lewis is one from Villanova.

Might be missing something, but I still can't fathom waiting til May for a decision. There might be some teams with a solid PG they're comfortable with who would wait on Tanner, but I don't see us having that luxury.
I would be shocked if we wait until May for a decision. There's signing people and then there's handshakes. This is not to say the CRB is going to break any rules, but I'd bet that's SOP for most big programs.

Most valuable player on the team by a wide margin? Did you even watch the basketball team this past season. That’s an absurd statement.

There aren't other bigs like JP. What off ball guard has Barnes had that can do everything Evans can do that wasn't a lead perimeter scoring option for the team. The team is going to be good bc this staff is elite at identifying talent and Barnes is a top 5-6 coach in the country, but losing two pieces that fit into the blueprint of teams that have made what Tennessee is "going all in for" (a Final Four) doesn't really help show that they are actually doing that. Barnes coaches the crap out of point guards, so I'm sure he'll get a couple solid options that perform above their talent level. Still does not change the other things. Barnes has had strong lead guard play and has been stuck in the E8 and getting walloped. Not putting this on Barnes as his teams have been far less funded, but every offseason is supposed to be different and it never practically is

This year F4:
Michigan
Floor General - Elliot Cadeau, LJ Cason
Slashing Guards/Wings - Roddy Gayle Jr, Trey McKenney, Nimari Burnett
Big, strong, versatile frontcourt - Yaxel Lendeborg, Morez Johnson, Aday Mara
Exception: Will Tschetter (3-5 shooter)

UCONN:
Floor General - Silas Demary Jr, Malachi Smith
Slashing Guards/Wings - Solo Ball, Jayden Ross
Big, strong, versatile frontcourt - Tarris Reed Jr, Alex Karaban, Eric Reibe
Exception: Braylon Mullins (5 star shooter that is NBA prospect)

ARIZONA:
Floor General - Jaden Bradley
Slashing Guards/Wings - Brayden Burries, Ivan Kharchenkov, Dwayne Aristode
Big, strong, versatile frontcourt - Koa Peat, Motiejus Krivas, Tobe Awaka
Exception: Anthony Dell'Orso (shooting ball handler)

ILLINOIS:
Floor General - Kylan Boswell
Slashing Guards/Wings - Andrej Stojakovic, (Boswell did this from the point), Jake Davis
Big, strong, versatile frontcourt - David Mirkovic, Tomislav Ivisic, Zvonimir Ivisic, Ben Humrichous
Exception: Keaton Wagler (Freshman shooter that is going NBA)

JP impact was huge for the efficiency of the overall team this season and his versatility (along with Dewayne Brown) allowed the two big offense to work as both could do a lot of different things.

JP led the entire roster in PER (25.0) -- second best was Gillespie (20.3)
JP led the entire roster in WS/40 (.200) -- second best was Gillespie (.188)
JP was second on roster in OBPM (6.2) -- best was Gillespie (6.4) -- third was Ament (5.1)

Amari Evans led the team in DBPM of players that actually played, which is interesting considering he was typically coming in for Boswell hmmmm

Anybody know if they continue classes for the next 4 weeks? I suppose you can be up in Michigan taking online and going to shoot around but not enrolled, but not all classes are available online iir.
And I guess the APR or whatever it was called a few called a years ago regarding student athletes and grades is out the window.

They have to finish their semester as they are still students according to the NCAA

Yet JP managed 18 minutes per game this season, has a major injury risk history in the worst spot for a big man, his foot, and his defense is suspect, with his free throw shooting getting worse each year as a cherry on top. He also fouls at a high rate.
